The whole “well we didn’t win with them” is a really dumb baseball argument. There are lots of teams with title caliber talent that have bad years, because of a variety of reasons. The Reds won 91 games in 2010. Then 79 the next year. They weren’t trying to dump Votto going into the offseason that winter. And the next year they won 97 games.

You pay enough $ to win and go agree to that (Showtime?) series about your team and you end up in the cellar anyway, why not dump the guys that lost you all those games? They saved about $160MM in salary with this trade alone.
