Doing a thorough analysis of Cougar Madness.
March 20th, 2013 at 8:30 AM
Great job on the vids.
March 20th, 2013 at 8:31 AM
Yeesh. She looks way too young to be here. I’m thinking about pizza later. Maybe I should buy her two of ‘em.
They’re on a rampage. Teamwork rules.
OBTW, I’m free & have a television. I’ll write Ballin’ for you. For free. C’mon, man. Let’s do this. I got ideas.
March 20th, 2013 at 8:32 AM
ill always remember kendall gill for his mtv cribs episode where, for some reason, he had a van. also, not that there’s anything wrong with that, i thought he might be gay.
March 20th, 2013 at 8:33 AM
TBL, let’s make this happen. SROD for Willing Unpaid Ballin’ Intern!!
March 20th, 2013 at 8:33 AM
We have all first round voting underway. Who will vote for Mr T cereal?
March 20th, 2013 at 8:35 AM
Can someone please provide me with a link to the TBL Yahoo and ESPN Bracket groups? I’ve been on my deathbed the last three days with some crazy stomach virus and I’m trying to get caught up on the interwebs.
March 20th, 2013 at 8:36 AM
I assume you haven’t seen her lately.
Julie Bowen as a number 1 seed is a bit surprising. She is fantastic though.
March 20th, 2013 at 8:37 AM
Or, the cops just weren’t that tough.
Weak gear all over that video – cops included.
March 20th, 2013 at 8:38 AM
Chicago, here’s more. I’m also willing to write Ballin’. It’s a two-fer…Wednesday.
March 20th, 2013 at 8:38 AM
12-year-old student had MAC-10
huge brawl at Chuck-E-Cheese
Can we just have a link in every Roundup called ‘Shit Florida Does’?
March 20th, 2013 at 8:40 AM
Yes – yes you can
March 20th, 2013 at 8:41 AM
how is Lauren Graham only a 16 seed in Cougar madness?
She’s got no shot against Monica Bellucci – that woman just oozes sex.
March 20th, 2013 at 8:43 AM
My elite eight in Cougar Madness:
Faith Hill
Connie Britton
Sophie Vergara
Uma Thurmon
Julie Bowen
Heather Graham
Lori Laughlin (13 seed)
Leslie Mann
Shania Twain got a terrible draw against Faith Hill; Mary Louis Parker got a terrible draw against Heatehr Graham. I’d of put them two over Mann and Uma if I had to just pick eight names.
March 20th, 2013 at 8:43 AM
BLACK ASS MAMMA
WHITE ASS DADDY
March 20th, 2013 at 8:43 AM
Also, how in the hell did Elizabeth Banks not make it on that bracket?
March 20th, 2013 at 8:43 AM
Green speedos ftmfw
March 20th, 2013 at 8:44 AM
Few people do.
March 20th, 2013 at 8:44 AM
Sloane Peterson > Sloane Stephens
March 20th, 2013 at 8:44 AM
It was also as if they tried to find the worst photo of Shania.
March 20th, 2013 at 8:45 AM
Go Nuggets. I hope that team makes a deep run in the playoffs. They are a joy to watch.
March 20th, 2013 at 8:45 AM
so no kate beckinsdale and no monica bellucci? why shoudl we take anything you ever say serious again?
March 20th, 2013 at 8:45 AM
Also, how in the hell did Elizabeth Banks not make it on that bracket?
She’s 39. Not a cougar yet.

March 20th, 2013 at 8:47 AM
Is 40 the cutoff for a cougar?
March 20th, 2013 at 8:48 AM
Seriously.
March 20th, 2013 at 8:48 AM
kate beckinsdale wasnt on there. So there.
Belucci got taken down by Lori Laughlin. I just re-watched Shoot em up so Belucci is definitely on the radar. Smoking.
March 20th, 2013 at 8:48 AM
Gabrielle Union is over 40? She looks good. But the bracket is missing Vivica A. Fox. and Vanessa Williams. It’s a traveshamockery!
March 20th, 2013 at 8:48 AM

March 20th, 2013 at 8:49 AM
Mary Louise Parker blows Heather Graham away…it’s not even close.
Yeah but that photo they had of Graham, her boobs were pouring out of a skimpy dress. It was the toughest call of the tournament and I went boobs. It was like Sophie’s choice of the bracket. I am weeping over here.
March 20th, 2013 at 8:50 AM

i had something typed out, but then i asked myself “why the fuck do you care about such an exercise in stupidity that you didnt even read?” couldnt come up with a good answer so im gonna just carry on.

I’ll bet my small paycheck that this kid was being bullied. And to clarify: that doesn’t make it right.

March 20th, 2013 at 8:53 AM
Marcia Cross coulda been on there too.
March 20th, 2013 at 8:53 AM
Marcil is only an 8. Terrible draw against Monica Bellucci in the round of 32.
March 20th, 2013 at 8:54 AM
so no kate beckinsdale and no monica bellucci? why shoudl we take anything you ever say serious again?

March 20th, 2013 at 8:55 AM
Good for Kendal Gill – Tim Doyle makes Bayless look reasonable and logical
March 20th, 2013 at 8:56 AM
Mika brzezinski can cougar it up
March 20th, 2013 at 8:56 AM
Cerealology : Fruity Pebbles cutting down the nets. Should be a #1 seed.
March 20th, 2013 at 8:56 AM
Julie Bowen is overrated as a 1-seed. I feel this is Sofia Vergara’s tourney to lose. My Elite 8 is: McCarthy, Aniston, Vergara, Newton, Gugino, Burke, Belluci and Electra.
March 20th, 2013 at 8:56 AM
Chloe Bridges
March 20th, 2013 at 8:57 AM
Mika brzezinski can cougar it up
This.
March 20th, 2013 at 8:57 AM
Big Ten Network analyst Tim Doyle got beat up by a guy 10 years older than him. I have heard that he is a loud mouth and big-times it around Wrigleyville. Watch one of his shows and you will understand why Gill jacked him up.
March 20th, 2013 at 8:58 AM
I have yet to see the name Vanessa Marcil pop up. Shame on yinz.
March 20th, 2013 at 8:58 AM
that was just plain bizarre.
March 20th, 2013 at 8:59 AM
The best has got to be the dudes pushing another guy in the cart over a small ramp and he busts his skull on the bulkhead. Must have been engineering students performing that one
March 20th, 2013 at 9:00 AM
I have yet to see the name Vanessa Marcil pop up. Shame on yinz.
I have a mad crush on her but she goes down in round two to Bellucci.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:00 AM
Do we have a TBL bracket sign-up somewhere on ESPN, CBS Sports or Yahoo link yet? Did I miss it?
March 20th, 2013 at 9:02 AM
Thanks JMac.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:03 AM
How old is that Chloe chick?
March 20th, 2013 at 9:03 AM
JK Rowling? Really? JK Rowling?
Tough draw for Cristina Applegate, getting Faith Hill in the first round.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:03 AM
so, when will teams start trapping Lawson? Maybe they’re saving it for the playoffs.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:04 AM
Caribou, scroll up. TBL posted it a few comments above.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:05 AM
Bellucci’s is one of my all-time beautiful women. One my best Christmas gifts from my wife got me was a signed semi-nude Bellucci photo. I opened it up and both kids (they were 5-8 at the time) were clamoring around me, “Lemme see, lemme see”. I put it back in the box real quick. Hangs in my man-cave.
/obligatory Monica pic.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:05 AM
Can I interest you in three minutes of people falling down the stairs?
My death by me falling down my hardwood stairs would not be a suprise. Each fall when the weather gets cold, those things get slippery. I usually take 1 spill or near terrible wipeout each year.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:05 AM
Thanks chicago for the help, I missed it.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:06 AM
Anyone ever been to Kauai, HI?
I’m heading there in two weeks and looking for restaurants or any must see things. Already planning on Hiking Waimea Canyon and Napali Coast (Kalalau Trail)
March 20th, 2013 at 9:06 AM

Sorry I am going in July. So please post me a few tips when you return.

Google says 21. Not sure I buy it. Between her and Selena Gomez its just creepy to have grown men ogle them.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:10 AM
Accent and perfect knockers doesn’t hurt.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:10 AM
congrats tBL, ugliest round up pic ever.
that cougar thing is tough. so many hots, not too many ugly girls. i forgot somehow how unreal belucci is.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:12 AM
I would never ask my wife to buy me a half nude pic of a woman.
I’d go anchorman era applegate over faith hill. Hill has the facial edge but applegate has BOOBS and a good-enough face
March 20th, 2013 at 9:12 AM
Will do, Scripty
March 20th, 2013 at 9:12 AM
Take in dinner and sunset at the Beach House Restaurant if you’re near Poipu Bay. You will love Wimea Canyon (and Kauai in general)
March 20th, 2013 at 9:13 AM
Anytime Gomez has been shown as the Roundup pic, I don’t even click the photo. Still creeps me out, having seen her on Wizards of Waverly Place when my kids were watching the show. Sames kinda goes for Vanessa Hudgens, though she is 24.

March 20th, 2013 at 9:15 AM
Believe it or not, I didn’t ask for it. I didn’t even have an idea that she would buy me something like this. I’m always tough to buy for, she says. As you get older, there’s not much I want for my b-day or Xmas, since you can pretty much buy whatever you want.
/still a cool surprise

March 20th, 2013 at 9:18 AM
Diane Lane didn’t make the field?
March 20th, 2013 at 9:18 AM
Now taking suggestions for random ways to pick teams on my non-serious bracket.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:20 AM
Also, for any Justified Fans, I would have thrown Joelle Carter on the bracket. At least in a play-in game.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:20 AM
She doesn’t anymore.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:21 AM
Raylan’s ex-wife is so hot. One of the girl who works here looks exactly like her.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:21 AM
She swore off nudity on film so I guess she’s off the list.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:22 AM
What about McKayla? Definitely should’ve been on there as a 16 seed.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:22 AM
Justified was awesome last night.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:22 AM
I think Anchorman-era Christina Applegate gives Faith Hill a good game, but ultimately gotta go Faith Hill there.

Much appreciated, PAR5N2. That’s about 40 minutes from our hotel, but since we are staying on the eastern coast of the island, that may be one of the closer sunset restaurants.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:23 AM
Sure was. This season has been fantastic.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:24 AM
Graham crackers and peanut butter > Heather Graham > Dudes named “Grahame” > Dudes named “Graeme”
March 20th, 2013 at 9:24 AM
How about Rebecca Creskoff? She definitely didn’t swear off the nudity like Diane Lane.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:25 AM
I’m also surprised Mike O’Malley isn’t a half bad actor.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:25 AM
The Midwest is a pretty lousy regional for Cougar Madness. I guess I have to go Shania Twain there. The West however is loaded, Sweet 16 of Vergara, Connelly (after winning a triple OT thriller vs. Dash), Newton and Giada.
The South comes down to Brooke Burke and Famke Janssen in a tossup. Monica Bellucci wins the East beating every other team by an average of 40 points.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:25 AM
Sweet.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:25 AM
She knows exactly what she is doing when she posts pics of herself in her twitter feed.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:26 AM
Also, for any Justified Fans, I would have thrown Joelle Carter on the bracket. At least in a play-in game.
Indeed. Except, outside of eight of us commenters, I’m not sure anyone knows who she is. Only like two million people watch the show each week.
Last night’s episode was awesome. You had to suspend belief a couple times, but it was so bad ass fun. I thought Colt was going to shoot Tim when he asked for the rifle. Nice misdirection.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:26 AM
Here’s an oral history of Pulp Fiction.
Justified was just great last night.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:27 AM
Hi five on the heather Graham love dewar. Her peak was spy who shagged me. Wow on the looks and she’s always seemed like a fun person
March 20th, 2013 at 9:28 AM
I used to love Famke Janssen but could never look at her the same after Nip/Tuck.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:29 AM

Here’s an oral history of Pulp Fiction.
Well played, Queefer.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:29 AM
The only quibble I have was with the Ava-Johnny-Theo’s guy bar scene. Went on a bit too long. Damn near became absurd.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:29 AM
that Vanessa Hudgens chick is only 21 or 22 and I will ogle the shit out of her, thank you very much.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:30 AM
As it applies to Justified, my wife and I were watching Live Free or Die Hard over the weekend and were discussing if Justin Long or Timothy Olyphant were A List actors. Long definitely is not but Olyphant…I’m kind of torn. He certainly seems to be right on the edge if he isn’t yet.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:30 AM
Famke Jansen as a lesbian in Eulogy > *

I’ve done that for four years now. My mother and wife continue to forget I have it. We have the same damn conversation every time around Christmas and my birthday.

March 20th, 2013 at 9:31 AM
You think Justin Long is an A list actor?
March 20th, 2013 at 9:32 AM
The dialogue between Tim and Colt was just fantastic. Maybe a little too perfect, but I was completely zoned in. Feels like they give Art at least one hilarious line every episode now just to play with viewers how great they are
March 20th, 2013 at 9:32 AM
Smoke show. She got naked all the time on that shitty show Hung.
Justified question. Did Colt go rogue and he’s gonna run now?
Also, I was reading a review on AV Club and one of the notes was about how Bob said Drewsistina and Yolo didn’t get that reference. I didn’t either. Anyone care to enlighten dumb asses like myself?
March 20th, 2013 at 9:32 AM
I would do this for Ebay if they had a public list option thing. Maybe they do and I haven’t found it? Hello, EarthBound for SNES complete in the box!
March 20th, 2013 at 9:32 AM
justified last night was PHENOMENAL.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:33 AM
There’s a great scene where she’s sexing The Punisher.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:33 AM
Justin Long or Timothy Olyphant were A List actors.\
Is Justin Long the guy that does the cell phone commercials? What has he done that would be considered over D list? I don’t watch a lot of movies or tv.
Olyphant has been a career character actor. Justified might spring him up to movie stardom, but I have a feeling he really doesn’t give a shit as long as he is working. Him being interviewed is always hilarious.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:33 AM
I thought Amazon Wish Lists were just for pornstars and fat white chicks on twitter.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:33 AM
olyphant was awesome in live free or die hard…he’s great. wish he got a starring role, but neither of them are A-list.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:33 AM
Blocked. Work.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:35 AM
Vanessa Hudgens is a different story all together. But I think someone mentioned earlier that she is 24.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:35 AM
Justified question. Did Colt go rogue and he’s gonna run now?
I think that whole angle is blown up now for all those cats. They are all rogue from each other. Ava, Boyd, Colt and Jimmy are all separated. Oh, Boyd lost his entire crew again. I’m sure he’ll recover.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:36 AM
and they all had the same high-top fades
March 20th, 2013 at 9:36 AM
Great link J-Mac.
/goes to batting cage
March 20th, 2013 at 9:37 AM
No clearly I do not, which is exactly what I said, but my wife was the one who brought up the whole discussion.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:38 AM
Olyphant should have won an Oscar for his role in The Girl Next Door.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:38 AM
Thought Boyd saying to Ava that he’s not going to die today was a tell of some sort
March 20th, 2013 at 9:38 AM
really? that’s what you got from that?
classic division of power yo…boyd’s up against the shit against a bunch of guys outnumbering the fuck out of him. divide and conquer man. lil sun tzu shit.
what on earth in this season would make you think colt’s gone rogue? he never consciously betrayed boyd. if anything, he’s proven to be as calculating as anyone, evidenced by his showdown with shelby and the IED setup.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:38 AM
I read this as “If [insert team here] is hitting 3 pointers, [insert team here] is in trouble.”
March 20th, 2013 at 9:38 AM
I think this is spot on. And you are right, his interviews are great.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:39 AM

March 20th, 2013 at 9:39 AM
Listen, I love Olyphant, but I thought he did a bit of “over-acting” in Live Free Die Hard. Maybe I’, just spoiled by his portrayal of Raylan

he hasn’t had a crew this entire season.

I still don’t think Ava makes it through the season. There’s just no way.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:41 AM
there’s no way she shouldve survived after the first season…or the second season…or the third…she’ll make it. jimmy? not so much.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:41 AM
This site has turned into a comment-eating behemoth.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:42 AM
I’m leaning that way as well but she has to. They need to have some female character worth a darn on that show. Raylan’s ex is never on the show since she’s on The Following and Rebecca, while she is a bit more involved this season still isn’t all that important.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:42 AM
participation in “babe brackets” should be grounds for euthanization
March 20th, 2013 at 9:42 AM
Either that or he’s still loyal and working with Boyd telepathically.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:42 AM
I’ve wondered how big of a loser you have to be to buy porn stars shit off their amazon wish list. obviously people do it, because they post them all the time.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:43 AM
so I heard this morning that Adrian Dantley is working as a crossing guard in Maryland for the health insurance benefits
March 20th, 2013 at 9:43 AM
McCarthy as a 1 seed? Awful.
Always been a fan of Jennifer Connelly…I’d like to see her win a few match-ups.
/In reality, will probably not check that site again
March 20th, 2013 at 9:43 AM
Jackie Nevada will roll back into town soon enough.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:44 AM
Sorry. Read that wrong.
I’ve fallen way behind on Justified, The Americans, and Archer. Is Archer back to being as funny as it was in season 2?
March 20th, 2013 at 9:44 AM
It baffles and fascinates me.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:44 AM
This is a thing? Don’t hookers make enough scratch to do that already?
Putting pussy on a pedestal will never, ever work
March 20th, 2013 at 9:45 AM
or that was the plan from the get-go…why else, with all that muscle willing to go to work from him, would he send only colt, a drug addict augustine thinks is a fuckup? boyd knew augustine would see it as win-win for and augustine wouldnt see how body could gain the upper hand.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:45 AM
I think this season has been much better than season three.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:45 AM
You can’t put a price on good pussy.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:46 AM
except for bourdain shitting on an entire episode (that also ANNOYINGLY AS HELL featured a fucking phone ringing for 2/3 the episdoe), agreed.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:46 AM
What was that movie where she is in Target and riding a motorized horse? That sure caught the attention of adolescent Career High.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:47 AM
Dude is going to REALLY wish he just cooperated.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:47 AM
The Americans has been very good. I love Keri Russell.
Archer has been better than last year. But still not as funny as it used to be.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:47 AM
Fruit Loops is the more dangerous 3 seed.
If Fruit Loops are hitting their threes, Marquette is in trouble
March 20th, 2013 at 9:47 AM
I’m just glad it happens because I like knowing there’s bigger losers than me out there.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:48 AM
well, at least his lawyer will have some ammo to work with seeing as the cop was the guy who started the fight. throw that cop in jail ASAP.

March 20th, 2013 at 9:49 AM
The definition of A list is they can open a big movie on their own.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:49 AM
The 3 episode arc to start off season 3 gave me such high hope for Archer. I still enjoyed it, but the quality definitely dropped later on. Good to hear season 4 has been an improvement.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:49 AM
I think she rocks in this show. Matthew Rhys is all kinds of sexy.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:50 AM
what on earth in this season would make you think colt’s gone rogue? he never consciously betrayed boyd. if anything, he’s proven to be as calculating as anyone, evidenced by his showdown with shelby and the IED setup.
That whole IED thing came together rather quickly.
When he was up on the hill with the sharpshooter, did he mention something about being clean now?
As far as Boyd’s crew… pretty much Johnny and Colt this season. Crew was probably a stretch to call them.
I don’t see how people are getting the idea Ava is going to die. I don’t see any indication of that.
People who are going to die:
Johnny
Colt
Tim or Art
Outside outside outside chance of it being Rachel. Shelby/Drew went from having the entire Marshall service watching him to now down to Rachel on a train.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:52 AM
didnt even think of this but could totally see it happen.
dont recall him saying anything like that…he’s been a different character entirely since that scene with him, johnny and boyd.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:52 AM
You know who hasn’t done that in a while? Tom Hanks. I could even argue that he wasn’t responsible for success of Da Vinci Code or Angels & Demons. Those books were so popular, any actor could have had a successful opening weekend.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:52 AM
Yeah the heroin addict is clean for about 5 hours and he’s clean now.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:53 AM
Who gives a fuck about the NIT?
March 20th, 2013 at 9:53 AM
Just put in my vacation request for Apr 11/12. My wife is going to be pissed.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:53 AM
to be fair, i can imagine a mock execution (for lack of a better term) would get your head clear fairly quickly.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:54 AM
I think it was an insurance scam, actually. That shit is all over Russia. If you want to kill yourself, a truck driving over you at 5 miles an hour is a really bad way of going about it.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:54 AM
I may print this out and frame it.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:55 AM
Obama’s bracket is not just straight chalk this year — he has two one seeds going out in the Sweet 16. http://games.espn.go.com/tournament-challenge-bracket/en/entry?entryID=4267886
March 20th, 2013 at 9:55 AM
Havent read comments yet but JMac flat getting it done on the poon links today.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:57 AM
I hate not being able to comment on Justified on Wednesday mornings with you guys. I DVR the show and don’t watch until I get home from work the next day. Not that I don’t mind you guys discussing the previous episode, but I can’t wait for work to end now.
March 20th, 2013 at 9:58 AM
Yea, he said he was clean and tim said he’s a frayed shoelace away from snapping back to beinga dopehead, or something like that
March 20th, 2013 at 9:59 AM
usually nobody, but you have the defending NCAA champs go out in the first round of the NIT to a tiny school named after a dude who was friends with George Washington, and UK had to go on the road because Rupp Arena wasnt available.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:00 AM
We going to ignore all the producing and directing he does as well?
Also: “As of 2012, Hanks films have grossed over $4.2 billion at the United States box office alone, and over $8.5 billion worldwide making him the highest all time box office star.”
March 20th, 2013 at 10:00 AM
Fock. My bracket looks eerily similar to his.
/goes to ESPN and CBS website and revamps
March 20th, 2013 at 10:00 AM
Who’s left on that list, though? Will Smith? Tom Cruise? Hanks? These days, it’s more about the movie you pick than the name on the poster. No one is bulletproof anymore. With more and more franchises based on existing properties, you don’t need a star. The fanbase is already there.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:01 AM
leo…tom hardy and michael fassbender are moving into this territory too.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:01 AM
Falling down the stairs video = fucking awesome. Best roundup in awhile.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:01 AM
Looked like from the previews that Boyd is gonna go after Ellen May and take out Johnny.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:02 AM
Also, this
March 20th, 2013 at 10:03 AM
Yea, he said he was clean and tim said he’s a frayed shoelace away from snapping back to beinga dopehead, or something like that
Yeah. I didn’t mean he was clean in the sense that he would never use again, but he is focused on getting shit right with Boyd and isn’t using now. I mean, fuck, he lost Ellen Mae while snorting heroin. Maybe he figured out being blasted on heroin isn’t something to do on the job when he is employed by Boyd.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:03 AM
I’d throw Christian Bale out there.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:04 AM
good call.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:04 AM
Denzel is still A list
March 20th, 2013 at 10:04 AM
I’d think Joseph Gordon-Levitt is just about ready to carry his own movie now
March 20th, 2013 at 10:05 AM
Aren’t they basically both coming out with the same fucking movie this Summer? They should just retire.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:05 AM
Says all I need to know about the NIT.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:06 AM
Yes. I was talking strictly about movies where he was a main actor.
Okay. But that wasn’t my point. No doubt that he used to carry movies by himself. But hasn’t done that in a while. Especially if you exclude sequels of previous hits and popular book series. He hasn’t had a runaway hit based off of a original screenplay in a while.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:06 AM
Chief just rubbed one out to this comment.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:06 AM
sucks that the only character he plays in movies is ‘denzel washington’ tho. i like how his version of frank lucas was denzel washington saying “my man.”
/joke-hate…he’s a fucking awesome actor, i just wish ‘safe house’ wasnt the total abortion it turned out to be
March 20th, 2013 at 10:07 AM
Absolutely.
I really like him. I wouldn’t say he is there yet, which is exactly what you said but I do think he is right about there. But I would say that the “Smart” whatever the hell that means, moviegoer sees him as really good, I’m not sure the average moviegoer does.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:07 AM
The Americans has been very good. I love Keri Russell.
sometimes she looks great in that show, others, she looks like skeletor left the set of GI JOes and for the americans. being that skinny is just heinous.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:07 AM
i meant he man, not gi joe.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:07 AM
Don Jon. Mid to late 2013. Written, directed, and starring opposite Scarlett. Tony Danza playing his dad.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:07 AM
I enjoyed Safehouse. Terrible, but enjoyable.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:07 AM
Sadly, I agree. She needs to park herself in front of a Chinese Buffet for like a week.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:08 AM
Agree. For the most part, I don’t think I’ve seen a bad movie with him in it. Though The Machinist was kinda messed up.
/3:10 To Yuma kicks ass
March 20th, 2013 at 10:08 AM
Anthony Jeselnik is definitely A List.
/Monk
March 20th, 2013 at 10:08 AM
i want to see a list of the lists of best lists.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:09 AM
f’real…ben foster needs another role like he had in that.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:09 AM
There was so much to like about that movie yet it still kind of sucked. Brolin was hilarious though.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:09 AM
Cruise, Leo, Will Smith, Brad Pitt, Hanks, Clooney, Depp, Downey, Nicholson would be A+ list in they get a movie made and bring in a good box office week one for the most part. Week one box office is where you make your most $$$ as a studio. Clooney doing something like Good Night Good Luck as an indie isn’t really applicable but globally he’d bring in box office for a wide release.
Just below you’d have Bale, Damon, and a few otehrs and then off to the side old fucks who are in their niche like Day Lewis, DeNiro, Pacino, Ford, Freeman.
There’s a debate that awards and such keep you on forever, but I was really just speaking to mojo to get a movie made and then bring in week one box office.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:09 AM
People give The Rock a ton of crap for going off to do kids movies for a few years, but long-term that could prove to be really smart. If Rock continues to grow with his audience, he could easily get A-list status.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:10 AM
Forgot Denzel and probably 1-2 others.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:10 AM
Show your average American a picture of Hardy or Fassbender, and how many do you think could identify either one of them? 3 out of 10?
DiCaprio is a good call, completely forgot about him. He can open a film.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:10 AM
Well said.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:10 AM
This is true. Before, you just went to watch a movie because a big name was attached to the project. But now, if an A-list actor makes a dud, the word gets out so fast that everyone else knows to avoid going.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:11 AM
Agreed, loved 3:10 to Yuma. Fosters role was kind of like his one in Alpha Dog…at least in the crazy department.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:11 AM
I bet anything Tom Hank’s movie where he plays Walt Disney is a massive financial failure.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:11 AM
Great movie. But he looked so gross in that movie. I immediately had to watch Batman Begins afterwards just to get the image of him being under 100 lbs out of my head.
I think Ben Foster is criminally underrated. I really liked him in The Mechanic.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:11 AM
Joseph Gordon-Levitt is not getting a movie made. He can attach to a vehicle but he’s not a one-name titan of the industry at this point. He’s a good actor yes but let’s not overreact.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:12 AM
I found myself saying this a lot after watching that movie. Because it makes me look cool, you see
March 20th, 2013 at 10:12 AM
hey, even george clooney had a period in his career where people said “oh, that’s that guy from ER.” those two will be A-list soon, if they arent already.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:12 AM
You fools are covering ground the immutable Bill Simmons has already walked. The movie star this was settled long ago.
http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/6716942/the-movie-star
March 20th, 2013 at 10:13 AM
Watched The Mechanic on The Movie Channel this weekend, with Jason Statham and Foster. Started out well, but thought it fell to sh*t. Unfortunate, I like both actors.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:13 AM
I’d say Daniel Day Lewis and Bale are kinda out of the discussion b/c they don’t really want to open movies, avoid the press. They are pretty much technicians who chose projects in a personal matter that suits only their personal timeframes and challenges.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:13 AM
80,000 words to say “Will Smith always plays good guys because he wants people to like him.”
March 20th, 2013 at 10:13 AM
All I could see.
But yes, probably will be, but sounds like something I’d really enjoy. Jason Schwartzman is in it too.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:14 AM
LOL. just got done posting this and then saw your rockchalk. I like the premise for the movie, just thought it fell apart IMO.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:14 AM
im a huge jason statham fan when he’s not the headliner of the movie…lock stock, expendables 1 and 2, killer elite, death race…he’s easily the most likeable character in any of those movies.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:14 AM
call your own shots = a-list
March 20th, 2013 at 10:14 AM
Go fuck yourself.
/Not really
March 20th, 2013 at 10:15 AM
While I certainly agree with your overall list, I’m still a little skeptical that these guys can absolutely bring in week one box office. With the right mass-appeal vehicle, sure. Take Pitt for instance. WWZ is going to open huge because its a summer FX action movie about zombies. Doesn’t really matter that it’s Pitt, right? Also, A-listers get the pick the best projects and can essentially write their own ticket in terms of relevance.
Your point about getting a movie made is a great one, though. That’s the key. And not only can they get it made, their name attached lends a certain prestige to the film that ensures people will at least give it a chance. Would anyone have seen Jack Reacher if it starred almost anyone other than Cruise? That Olympus is Fallen movie looks awful and will probably bomb. Imagine if DiCaprio was the SS agent and Clooney the president? All of a sudden that seems a lot more credible, right?
March 20th, 2013 at 10:15 AM
I really like Renner but I don’t see him ever making the A List.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:16 AM
Jason Statham is in my personal A-list, I’ll see anything that guy’s in due to the laugh out loud awesomeness of the Crank and Transporter movies
March 20th, 2013 at 10:16 AM
Tell us about the craft, please.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:16 AM
You know who definitely can’t open a TV show? Steven Spielberg. Might be time for him to stop promoting his latest crappy tv show with tagline of “from Steven Spielberg”.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:16 AM
More important, how did Jenna Elfman not even make the field?!
March 20th, 2013 at 10:17 AM
Checked Netflix instant to see if that was there… nope. Only one Guy Ritchie movie is there (Snatch.).
March 20th, 2013 at 10:18 AM
I’m always amazed Foster never became one of those supporting actors everyone absolutely had to have in major movies. Sort of like Levitt, Hardy, and Fassbender.
I could talk about this shit all day. The business of movies fascinates me.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:18 AM
Jeremy Renner
see: Joseph Gordon-Levitt
also, closeted bisexual
March 20th, 2013 at 10:18 AM
It’s all good, but you are absolutely right. That movie completely fell apart.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:19 AM
Sounds like Farmer is ALL IN with the Calipari view of ethics.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:19 AM
Ben Foster was awesome in 30 Days of Night, which I actually enjoyed.
Jeremy Renner is awful.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:19 AM
I had to look up this Ben Foster guy. Why is he trying to look like Ken Cosgrove from Mad Men? Did he secure the Mountain Dew account?
March 20th, 2013 at 10:20 AM
I watch Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels about once every couple of months on youtube, while I’m at work (have it running on another monitor, can listen to it as I work). I never get sick of this movie.
Also his role in Snatch is great.
/Protection from what? “Zee Germans”?
March 20th, 2013 at 10:21 AM
Ben Foster was in Contraband, someone on here made a comment about how they were going to see it because they’ll see any movie that features a guy strapping stacks of money to his body, that cracked me up.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:22 AM
I actually saw Lock Stock in the theater. There was maybe one other person there.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:22 AM
You know who’s not A List? Steve Buscemi, Jim Carrey, and Steve Carrell.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:23 AM
Ben Foster was in Contraband? Jesus, Ben, you’re so much better than that. Fire your agent man.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:23 AM
actually saw Lock Stock in the theater. There was maybe one other person there.
thats not surprising because that movie sucks peen.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:24 AM
Feel like 5-7 years ago, that movie premieres in July and rakes in $60 million Friday-Sunday, easy. Same exact shitty movie, too, not one change to the script.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:24 AM
I wanted to see Snatch the weekend it came out but the guys I went to the movies with shouted me down and we saw Double Take featuring Orlando Jones and Eddie Griffin instead.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:25 AM
Doesn’t really matter that it’s Pitt, right?
He contributes but there is one of a handful of A-listers getting that part. A tent-pole movie is kind of it’s own discussion.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:25 AM
Yes. Sort of not proud of it, but I enjoyed it as well
March 20th, 2013 at 10:26 AM
Watched Office Space for the 27th time this weekend. I will never ever get tired of watching that movie.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:26 AM

March 20th, 2013 at 10:30 AM
Proud to say I saw Office Space in the theater.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:30 AM
I’ll tell you what I’d do man, two chicks at the same time.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:30 AM
True. That’s kind of what I meant about A-listers sort of guaranteeing their relavance. The lead role in a massive summer action movie was probably only going to a few guys, as you said. Which means A-listers always have first crack at the best parts. Feels like you really have to screw up a lot of decisions to fall off that mountaintop.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:31 AM
I think if these were the other way around, you’d be saying the same thing.
A movie that already has the star(s) looks like it will be successful no matter who would be in it. Then a movie that is expected to be a flop without an A-lister involved would be better/more respectable if they were.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:31 AM

March 20th, 2013 at 10:35 AM
mole…buy me this tie.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:37 AM
Maybe. I guess what I’m saying is, A-listers can maybe add $5M to the opening weekend of a turd film. At the same time, though, they’re rarely, if ever, put in the position of opening turds. When you can have almost any role you want, you don’t select the shit.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:37 AM
To the person chirping about Hanks, I think they have a point but are a bit off. Take stupid ass movie Larry Crowne. He takes some ordinary project, gets it made for like 30mm and then it makes 2x that when all the profit lines are taken into account. Just some stupid ass movie that didnt light the world on fire and it got producers, editors, marketters and a bunch of other people paid. Studios have to pump out movies to exist. There are only so many tentpole projects and there needs to be other things in the pipeline. When Disney whacked a bunch of their execs a few years ago, they only had 2 movies made on their own, had to lay off some of their staff b/c not enough work.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:39 AM
Anyone else never heard of this until this morning?
March 20th, 2013 at 10:39 AM
Outside of Lock, Stock, his best movie is The Bank Job.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:40 AM
Scripty, you have more insight into this than I, so I’ll ask — when you factor in international grosses, DVD/BD sales, syndication rights, and merchandising, how difficult is it for studios to lose money on a film? I know Hollywood accounting is traditionally fucked six ways from Sunday, but real-world, it’s gotta be almost impossible, right?
March 20th, 2013 at 10:41 AM
All this talk about Justified, but no chatter earlier in the week about Walking Dead and how that cunt Andrea finally is getting what she deserves.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:42 AM
Always take gross points. Never net points.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:42 AM
Some of her scenes make this show awkward to watch with the in-laws.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:43 AM
I always laughed at Clay for hate-watching a show, but it has turned into that for me. Terrible
March 20th, 2013 at 10:45 AM
I thought we were collectively done with this show?
March 20th, 2013 at 10:46 AM
Proud to say I saw Office Space in the theater.
I saw it at the $1 theater in Lawrence.
All this talk about Justified, but no chatter earlier in the week about Walking Dead and how that cunt Andrea finally is getting what she deserves.
I have zero emotional investment in that show. It is much better than season 2, but there are no likable characters. Unlike, Justified, in which every character is super damn likable. I even warmed to Constable Bob last night and he was one character I did not like.
March 20th, 2013 at 10:47 AM
It depends how the film is financed, how the main star is paid, and the scale of the film. The big summer movie has the biggest potential to be a huge moneymaker or a huge loss on on the p/l statement.
A movie with a big CGI budget that wont play overseas and tried the “three B+ stars = 1 A list star” is your recipe for disaster. The studio is getting paid first though in any equation.

It has improved markedly in the second half of this season. Hopefully Andrea goes walker, and all the characters you couldn’t fucking stand are gone.

Finally talked my best bud into watching it, and he didn’t get it at all.
Of course, he didn’t get Evil Dead or Shaun of the Dead either, so there you go.
Sample comment: “Is this supposed to be a comedy?”

End the friendship.
Seriously. End it.

Figured the only time studios can lose is with a massive tentpole that bombs overseas. Even John Carter, universally considered a major bomb $73M here), earned $210M internationally. Factor in the rest of the revenue streams at Disney at least broke even after expenses. Same with Battleship (sorry Riggins). $303M with international grosses factored in. Crazy.

Hopefully Andrea goes walker,
I have a feeling Herschel is done with. AMC has got to be sick of getting that CGI bill to make his leg amputated when he is stumbling around on crutches.

Vez just got a major boner.

Your friend has no soul.

That’s some pretty good Lt. Dan’d, though.
Funny, in the graphic novel it was Dale who lost his leg, and Andrea created a prosthetic for him.

No that movie really fucked them for a whole year. They pumped like $100mm into marketing on top of production. That was the year they only had 2 movies from their own pipeline. Nothing else to offset it.

fuck you, mole. Steve Buscemi carried ConAir.

We have amazingly divergent tastes in entertainment, but he’s a rock-solid guy.

What was the other?

Speaking of late 90′s comedies, caught some of There’s Something About Mary on tv last night. Forgot how funny that movie was.

From a trade on John Carter:
Overseas, John Carter, also starring Kitsch, earned $200.6 million. The pic resulted in a $200 million los for Disney.
That included international. For some movies, there is debt interest that isn’t shown in production costs. There is the production budget, and the cost of the movie (budget + marketing + debt obligations + misc).
The studio isnt getting all the box office either. THey may get 90% of week one box office, and down to 50% and lower after a month. The theatre owners get their shares. There is a lot of misinformation out there from people too. You are a Disney exec, Carter bombed, you are trying to say it wasnt that bad b/c you want Fox Searchlight to hire you after you get fired for greenlighting JOhn Carter.

They will just shoot him from the waist up, or have him standing behind a car or something.

Have you read the comics? She’s still around in issue 105.

There are some real strong lower seeds that can really shake up this tournament. Make favorite dark horses: Alyssa Milano at a 12 seed, Marissa Tomei 7, Padma Lakshmi 14, Stacey Dash 5, Drea DeMatteo 15.
At the end of the day, Sofia Vergara wins regardless of the matchup.

Lucky Charms over Golden Grahams in the final. GG being a sixth seed is blasphemy.
March 20th, 2013 at 12:50 PM
Comics and TV series not in sync. Dale dies at the farm in series, but in the book he survives the prison and the Governor’s attack. And Andrea never teams up with the Governor in the comics, and she and Dale are a happy couple.

Lucky Charms is such a shitty cereal
March 20th, 2013 at 12:57 PM
Also no raisin bran crunch? Suspension from the tournament for unlawful recruiting? They should be a 1 seed
