I’m not sure, but I think it goes back to George Mikan, and the height adavantage he had over other players which was greater back then than a 7 footer would enjoy today.

If NBA refs can’t understand the rule on traveling, they certainly won’t understand the rule on goaltending.

hmmm, then it seems silly. obv i get DG…without that rule, defensive players would just hang around the rim and swat away shots as they near the rim. but i don’t get what would happen if there was no OG

darrell, why is there a rule against offensive goaltending?

I guess i don’t understand why an offensive player can’t do whatever it takes to score except travel or charge. I’m looking for an example of unfairness or what scoring would look like if there was no OG rule.

Shining, I would argue a perfect reason is for what Noah did on this play so offensive players can’t redirect shots to gain an advantage when if McGee had jumped up and grabbed it there would have been a defensive goaltending call.

Perhaps the real issues was the previous tip-in by Kosta Koufos of Denver that gave the Nuggets the lead. That one appeared to be right on the rim and a clear violation of bask interference.

Noah did the same thing the following possession so it was a wash.

Thanks roeth, know you would know what the call is. What are your thoughts on refs spending almost 5 minutes on out of bounds reviews during the final minutes of Heat-Celtics? Totally takes the air out of the building.

Ya…it’s not work…we’re small, and I’m the de facto IT guy (I have no idea what I’m doing).
