Should This Joakim Noah Game-Winning Tip-in Have Counted?
Initially the call was yes, and the Bulls appeared to snap the Nuggets’ 11-game winning streak. But after looking at numerous replays, the basket was waved off and the Bulls were 119-118 losers, and Denver’s winning streak reached 12. Here are two fairly definitive screen grabs. Perhaps the real issues was the previous tip-in by Kosta Koufos of Denver that gave the Nuggets the lead. That one appeared to be right on the rim and a clear violation of bask interference.

no because he’s a disgusting example of humanity and should be liquidated with his organs being distributed to those suitable donors in immediate need of transplants.

donors, candidates…whatever, fuck joakim noah.

Got to give props to the Celtics for playing 2 games at the same time.
/burn those jerseys

Yes, because he’s amusing.

This slayed me.

Good to see Nate still doing his thing.

Basque Interference > bask interference

I met an obnoxious Bulls fan in Chicago who claimed he had the same dealer as Noah. He was really proud of himself. The Eskimo brothers for losers. Fucking idiot

you’re partially blocked? You’re sure it’s his end, and not your work’s end? That makes no sense.
Also, J-Mac can’t help you. He has no clue how to work anything past they keyboard on that thing he persists in calling a cee-pee-you

The rule on this is pretty simple: Can’t touch the ball if it’s going to hit the rim. Stacey King & the other fool going on a rant about the Bulls getting robbed was priceless.
March 19th, 2013 at 10:28 AM
Refs got both calls correct. For Noah, you can’t touch any ball in its downward flight that has any chance to touch the rim.
For Koufos, the ball had already hit the rim. In this scenario, you are allowed to touch/contact the ball as long as the ball is not using the rim as its lower base. So, with the ball on the side of the rim, the tap in was legal.

Ya…it’s not work…we’re small, and I’m the de facto IT guy (I have no idea what I’m doing).
I can’t comment from work…simply reloads a page when I hit “submit comment”. This all happened right after a comment of mine that was “critical” of the workings here were deleted.

i don’t understand why there is offensive goaltending. what would the trouble be if that rule didn’t exist, in other words, how could it be taken advantage of? defensive gt is easy to understand
March 19th, 2013 at 10:35 AM
Thanks roeth, know you would know what the call is. What are your thoughts on refs spending almost 5 minutes on out of bounds reviews during the final minutes of Heat-Celtics? Totally takes the air out of the building.
March 19th, 2013 at 10:35 AM
It was the correct call, shit happens when the best plays you can run at the ends of games are hoping the Euro who looks like he smells bad hits an off-balance runner
March 19th, 2013 at 10:37 AM
Ball is over the hoop, goaltending.
/keep sucking bulls
//get into lottery
///I know it wont happen
March 19th, 2013 at 10:40 AM
i know i’m missing something obvious, but why is there is there offensive goaltending? seems like when trying to score offensive players should be able to do whatever they want except travel or charge
March 19th, 2013 at 10:54 AM
Noah did the same thing the following possession so it was a wash.
March 19th, 2013 at 11:03 AM
Good call
March 19th, 2013 at 11:07 AM
darrell, why is there a rule against offensive goaltending?
what, are you guys trying to make me look it up?
google this
March 19th, 2013 at 11:08 AM
Pretty homerific job by the Bulls’ announcers. Offensive goaltending isn’t just if the ball is in the cylinder. What Roeth said.
March 19th, 2013 at 11:09 AM
Shining, I would argue a perfect reason is for what Noah did on this play so offensive players can’t redirect shots to gain an advantage when if McGee had jumped up and grabbed it there would have been a defensive goaltending call.
March 19th, 2013 at 11:16 AM
I guess i don’t understand why an offensive player can’t do whatever it takes to score except travel or charge. I’m looking for an example of unfairness or what scoring would look like if there was no OG rule.
March 19th, 2013 at 11:19 AM
I’m not sure, but I think it goes back to George Mikan, and the height adavantage he had over other players which was greater back then than a 7 footer would enjoy today.
March 19th, 2013 at 11:21 AM
…….the same reason they outlawed the dunk in college just as Lew Alcindor was entering school.
March 19th, 2013 at 11:21 AM
hmmm, then it seems silly. obv i get DG…without that rule, defensive players would just hang around the rim and swat away shots as they near the rim. but i don’t get what would happen if there was no OG
March 19th, 2013 at 11:41 AM
If NBA refs can’t understand the rule on traveling, they certainly won’t understand the rule on goaltending.
March 19th, 2013 at 11:51 AM
i guess i’ll stop now. i don’t have trouble understanding the OG rule, just why there is one in the first place
March 19th, 2013 at 12:03 PM
I’m 99% sure it was one of the rules they made because of Wilt Chamberlain but I could be mistaken.
March 19th, 2013 at 1:28 PM
then we’re going to roll with your 99%
March 19th, 2013 at 1:30 PM
pretty disappointed in our hoop-crazy commentariat to not answer my question other than ‘maybe it was bc of mikan’
real talk
