Tiger Woods and Lindsey Vonn really are dating. The couple had been rumored to be in a relationship for a while now, but today some pictures and simultaneous Facebook updates confirmed the relationship. From Tiger’s Facebook:
This season has been great so far and I’m happy with my wins at Torrey and Doral. Something nice that’s happened off the course was meeting Lindsey Vonn. Lindsey and I have been friends for some time, but over the last few months we have become very close and are now dating. We thank you for your support and for respecting our privacy. We want to continue our relationship, privately, as an ordinary couple and continue to compete as athletes.

Played with one of our pros on Friday. Dude is the best golfer I have ever seen when he’s on. Grew up in Scotland. Beat Sergio in a match play even when they were 17. Just doesn’t have the mental aspect of the game on lock or he’d be on Tour.
He hits his 2-iron 260 yards. He Hogan’s his distances. Doesn’t get a number, just looks. Played like shit on Friday and shot 69. Absolutely unbelievable.

yea, which is kinda surprising when he switched to that GD a few years back…that’s a light shaft considering what he was using before.
def on jerry kelly but if boo weekley could putt, he’d be a top-10 in the world player. he’s statistically the worst putter on tour the past 5 years, but always in the top 10 in GIR and total driving.

This. I don’t get worked up on yardage, won’t use a GPS/range unless I’m totally confused and someone has it. For straight yardage, just feel it. When you play basketball, you don’t stop and try to coordinate muscle memory with distance from the hoop, you just shoot.

Figured this would spiral into a golf discussion.
Last fall I borrowed some old clubs from a friend and decided to give it a whirl at the driving range, having never really golfed before. Went 2-3 times a week for about a month, and by the end of it I still couldn’t even make solid contact on any consistent basis. Want to try again but feel like it might be futile. Is it normally this frustrating?

Yup. Start small, with a PW and a chipping green. Work on the 7-to-5 (on the clockface) stroke, just chipping balls onto the practice green. That’s where flush contact is born. Anything outside of that and you’re asking your body to really fuck up muscle memory.

Larry Mize had 4 Tour wins, and finished T4 at the US Open that year (which had him top 10 in the world briefly). I read that there have only been like 50-60 people every in the top 10 ranking of the world. So that’s pretty good company, albeit a short window.
Mattice was briefly top 50, 2 wins, and lost to Mike Weir, vs. beating Norman and Seve (forgot Seve was in the playoff as well).

Last year I got new wedges, and spent a solid hour with each of the Cleveland 588s, the Titleist Vokey, and the Nike VR wedges. Ended up with the 588s. I thought the Nike’s were a close 2nd in the way they felt.

I don’t know. Tiger only hit 54% of fairways and Doral didn’t punish him. can’t do that outside of Florida. That said, his irons and putting were ridiculous.

2013, so this season i suppose. sorry, havent hit a shot on a course yet this year, hard to call it “this season.”
i shouldnt be too far off…made a lot of strides from november until now. range sesh’s have been sterling. my extra strokes were a penalized drive/round and mostly short game flubbed chips/pitches. considering how poorly (in hindsight) i was hitting it last year, fair miracle i scored so well. i putted like a motherfucker from july on…there was a couple week period in august i mustve been making a half dozen 20 footers per round*.
*great if they were for birdies…not so great when they’re saving pars and bogeys.

Look, I’m just trying to think some things thru and get a comparison for my own obsession. My frustration is that for as much as I play I seem to have hit a wall as far as improvement. Simply put for as much as I play I should be better. So I’m thinking this season scaling back a little and seeing how that goes….I had about 150 rounds last year between winter trips in AZ and the spring summer season in PA.
