NCAA Tournament No. 1 Seeds: Louisville, Kansas, Indiana and Gonzaga
Louisville (Midwest), Kansas (South), Indiana (East) and Gonzaga (West) are the No. 1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament.
We’ll break down each bracket tomorrow.
My far too early knee-jerk picks, just glancing at each bracket:
Louisville vs. Michigan State in the Midwest regional final
VCU vs. Georgetown in the South regional final
Indiana vs. Miami in the East regional final
Gonzaga vs. Ohio State in the West regional final
Those are obviously subject to change a few times before Thursday at noon.
How about some props for Jason Lisk and his perfect bracket!

Gottlieb has been perfectly self-absorbed and arrogant. CBS needed a villain.
March 17th, 2013 at 6:57 PM
He can’t help himself with the rebuttals. How many times has Gumbel had to shut him up?
March 17th, 2013 at 6:58 PM
Smug. Just the way I like ‘em.

Marvin Gaye..the best.

of course a lot of these analysts think Gonzaga has no chance to make it to the final four.. Give me Gonzaga over Ohio State all day.
March 17th, 2013 at 7:19 PM
Those are actual schools? Not interested.

Pretty stunned UNC got an 8 seed. They are higher in almost every conceivable metric when compared to every 7 seed. The committee must not have thought highly of the ACC.
March 17th, 2013 at 7:28 PM
For most of the season, the ACC sucked outside of Miami/Duke.

KU vs Roy Williams in Kansas City. Print money.

Bilas(who I generally loathe for his arrogance) is nailing it in their postgame. SOS and who you beat means jackshit. In every case, at the top lines all the way thru to the bubble, the little guy won the battle.
Its who beat you and how many losses you have that trumps and not vice versa. The committee needs to quit pretending otherwise.
March 17th, 2013 at 7:38 PM
I feel like the 8 seeds were seeded low esp. Pitt and UNC. It’s almost like they wanted to set up some juicy 2nd round matchups. NCSt. is pretty feisty as well. Likewise UCLA and Memphis at a 6 seems way too high.
Also if seeds hold we’ll have yet another Wisky-K-State matchup in the 2nd round, they met in the 2nd round in ’08 and ’11.
March 17th, 2013 at 7:39 PM
but TNC – it’s NOT who you beat. MTSU, St. May’s beat nobody. But they ‘played’ people (non conf SOS).
Tenn, Maryland have quality wins. but they didn’t play as many in the non-conf.

Yeah the NCAA has really been good about flaunting that storyline. Have Kansas fans really still not moved on? I figured 40-12 and the championship would have been enough to let go.
March 17th, 2013 at 7:44 PM
everyone writing off the Zips. wait and see.
March 17th, 2013 at 7:44 PM
Oregon as a 12 is also really baffling. The media seems to focus on the bubble teams and ignore the questionable seeding decisions.

The hatred is gone, but there is still underlying resentment.

The committee has gone too far in the “Who you scheduled” direction to try and accommodate mid-majors. It’s great that Middle Tennessee played a tough OOC schedule (which frankly, isnt great when you look at it). But they did’t beat anyone — only one top-100 win. Their only really good opponent was Florida, and the Gators won by 21. Are we really giving credit for trying now?
I’m a Terps fan and I didn’t think Maryland deserved to make the tournament — not enough OOC tests coupled with some bad losses. But then a team like MTSU gets in, and I get irritated all over again. Bottom line: beating Duke twice matters a whole hell of a lot more than scheduling a few decent OOC teams.
March 17th, 2013 at 7:51 PM
I wish they had televised Roy’s reaction, probably an epic facepalm.
March 17th, 2013 at 8:10 PM
They are playing a VCU team that destroys turnover prone teams… they just lost their starting PG, so I’d say VCU will murder them unless their backup PG plays the game of his life.
March 17th, 2013 at 8:15 PM
I agree. I may have wrote poorly. That is my argument (and Bilas). Who you beat is related to who you schedule. And teams like UT played a far better OOC schedule than MTSU.
Look, UT sucks and got what they deserve. But they went out and scheduled aggressively (Wichita St, Georgetown, others) and it didnt help them any at all.
For what its worth MTSU would probably smoke UT and Virginia and probably Maryland also.
