Derrick Nix: Flagrant Foul On Aaron Craft Looked Pretty Vicious
All, College Basketball, Video March 16th. 2013, 6:24pm
Derrick Nix earned a Flagrant I for this foul on Aaron Craft. It could have cost MSU the game, but Craft missed the second free throw and OSU did not score on the subsequent possession. The call was probably correct. Everything looks significantly worse in slow motion. Ohio State won 61-58 and will meet Wisconsin in the B1G final.

He half swung and half grabbed. It should have been a flagrant 2
March 16th, 2013 at 6:35 PM
So when is Michigan playing today?
March 16th, 2013 at 6:39 PM
Is Craft the worst shooting white guard in NCAA history.
March 16th, 2013 at 6:50 PM
You believing this court at the MWC? Holy Eat Around The Chocolate ‘Till You Get To The Peanut Butter.
March 16th, 2013 at 7:04 PM
They’re home getting some needed rest. And how is it that I’ve been the one who’s defended OSU basketball all season?
March 16th, 2013 at 7:15 PM
It’s pretty much true. I was very down on the team until a couple weeks ago. Now, I’m thinking they have a legit chance to make it to the Final Four if they get into the right bracket. Expect at least a Sweet 16 appearance.
Are you the worst poster on TBL?
March 16th, 2013 at 7:26 PM
I do OK at times not so well at others. I think I’m probably in Next Four Out.
March 16th, 2013 at 7:32 PM
Careful man, you might drive him to start drinking again. Speaking of driving to drink, I’m driving to the liquor store on my break here in a few minutes. Tonight I take NO chances of those bastards unplugging the open sign as I pull into the parking lot on my way home from work.
/Found cinder block
//Got beer anyways
March 16th, 2013 at 7:37 PM
That’s hardcore.
March 16th, 2013 at 7:38 PM
Tonight I take NO chances of those bastards unplugging the open sign as I pull into the parking lot on my way home from work.
Never forget, Meth. Never forget.
March 16th, 2013 at 8:00 PM
Overestimating your time available at the liquor store and realizing you gotta settle for a case of beer is indeed one of the great tragedy’s.
March 16th, 2013 at 8:11 PM
If New Mexico plays Wisconsin neither team will get out of the teens. That is a mean bunch. Seems to me they have GOT to adopt NBA rules on handchecking and contact for college basketball.
March 16th, 2013 at 8:14 PM
On the flipside, I thought Michigan was a legitimate Final Four team up until a couple weeks ago. They get a 2nd round matchup against a 6 seed with a strong inside game and they may not sniff the Sweet 16.
//They should still make the Sweet 16.
March 16th, 2013 at 8:17 PM
So teams like Michigan State that are never the most talented but play aggressive solid fundamental basketball never have a chance?
March 16th, 2013 at 8:20 PM
I mean, I see what you mean but good grief the holding that goes on out there. That’s not fundamental basketball. Is over the back even a rule anymore? The NBA had to clean it up and NCAA should as well.
March 16th, 2013 at 8:25 PM
Well that night I had to settle for jackshit. Driving home from work, saw the open sign, made a u-turn and as soon as I pulled in the lights went out. Should’ve channeled my inner Shining and aimlessly stumble across the parking lot like a gorilla rambling incoherent thoughts.
March 16th, 2013 at 8:38 PM
Should have used that cinder block.
Who was that football player that got busted eating doughnuts in a closed bakery? That could have been you, Meth!
March 16th, 2013 at 8:52 PM
I agree. The ACC does a pretty good job of calling things like the NBA, and their scores tend to be in the 70s and 80s. It’s gonna be interesting to see how the Big East teams moving there next year adapt.
March 16th, 2013 at 8:52 PM
80% of college basketball games are straight up unwatchable.
The Big East is bad basketball this season.
March 16th, 2013 at 8:56 PM
Can’t all be marquee matchups though. I was watching I think Utah and Oregon the other night for a few minutes before I went to bed, and I took away 2 things from that game:
1. I want my few minutes back
2. I couldn’t decide if 2 of the Utah cheerleaders looked good, or if the rest of them were just so damn ugly it made the other 2 look half decent.
March 16th, 2013 at 8:56 PM
Hoya Paranoia is what started this crap. You play defense with your feet not your hands. Its one of the reasons basketball is an offensive driven game. You arent going to be shutting teams out as in football.
March 16th, 2013 at 8:57 PM
The other night? Was it last night? Is this Alzheimer’s?
March 16th, 2013 at 9:05 PM
Totally agree. It’s the marquee matchups that are actually mostly the worst. The Syracuse-Georgetown game that went to OT tied 51-51 was abysmal. If NBA teams scored at this pace, every game would be in the 70s.
Teams just can’t play competent offense. Ball never goes inside the 3 point line before 10 seconds are left on the shot clock. A lot of bad offense / coaching out there.
March 16th, 2013 at 9:08 PM
They foul so much in the Big East. Bogs down the game so much. If a team in the Big East shoots before the shot clock hits 10 it is a surprise.
March 16th, 2013 at 9:12 PM
I would agree overcoaching causes more problems than overzealous defenses.
March 16th, 2013 at 9:14 PM
That is funny you brought that up though. My brother was always big into watching and he said something the other day about having a hard time sitting down to it as much anymore. I’ll watch if it seems like a good game, but I’m not diehard about it. Didn’t go to college-no ties to a school, so I don’t have a vested interest other than entertainment. 5 OT’s in that Notre Dame game this year was not entertaining. I have no idea why I continued to watch that.
March 16th, 2013 at 9:18 PM
Remember that Seinfeld where Elaine falls in love with a guy who has these big blue eyes? Only it turned out it was her subconscious just remembering him as “The Wiz” on local TV commercials in New York.
That dude is the fucking villain on CSI tonight! I shit you not.
March 16th, 2013 at 9:20 PM
I know I’m in the minority, but I think college basketball is still 10x better than the score-at-will NBA. Of course I also like a 27-24 football game over a 52-48 one.
March 16th, 2013 at 9:26 PM
Agreed. When OSU is playing another good team in a meaningful game I’m loving it. I’m just all in. It’s so awesome. I’m standing up and pacing around. Even when it’s two other good teams and not OSU, I’m much more invested than some NBA playoff game. So much more passion.
March 16th, 2013 at 9:28 PM
See, because football without D is a joke, Wayne (Cue Pac-10). Check this out that I just found on Twitter:
I have no idea who Eric Crawford is but this says it all to me.
March 16th, 2013 at 9:29 PM
I did that for almost 2 hours during the IU game last Sunday. I never did that when the Pistons were really good 10 years ago.
March 16th, 2013 at 9:29 PM
Totally agree on the passion. College football is the same way for me. I could give two shits about any NBA or NFL team.
They still gotta be playing basketball and not Rugby.
March 16th, 2013 at 9:30 PM
Syracuse up 13 on Louisville at the half!!!
March 16th, 2013 at 9:30 PM
I would probably be more ok with the hard-hitting grind it out stuff if there were better quality individual shot-makers in college. You don’t see the players anymore that can almost single-handedly beat great team defenses. You just see bricks.
March 16th, 2013 at 9:31 PM
Maybe he should’ve rolled on the ground for 10 minutes like he got shot, or grabbed the other player’s arm and smack himself with it, that way the other player would get a yello…Wrong sport? Carry on.
March 16th, 2013 at 9:39 PM
Funny you say that. I remember I was at some rich mother fuckers place when the Pistons beat LA in the finals however many years ago. We just like stood up and clapped. It was the gayest shit ever. Didn’t go wild or anything.
March 16th, 2013 at 9:43 PM
It wasn’t a golf clap was it? That would make that story worse. Did you clap because he clapped or did he clap because you clapped? Or did you both just simultaneously start clapping? I said clap so much I caught it.
March 16th, 2013 at 9:50 PM
This is not vicious at all. Vicious? C’mon, stuffy. Surely you can come up with a better adjective than that. Unless I’m seeing something along the lines of the Gerald Henderson elbow to Psycho-T’s face, then it’s probably not “vicious”.
March 16th, 2013 at 9:57 PM
That’s because anyone good, or thinks they’re good heads to the NBA after a year or two. Imagine how Duke would be this year if Kyrie Irving had to play three years of college ball.
March 16th, 2013 at 9:58 PM
No. And it was like 7 or 8 people. It was weird. I didn’t even like most the people there. No idea how the hell I ended up there. A couple friends and mutual acquaintances. I did hook up with one of the chicks, so it all worked out in the end.
March 16th, 2013 at 10:03 PM
From clappin’ to fappin’. In record time.
March 16th, 2013 at 10:06 PM
OT: This give anyone else chills? Man, this sounds rough.
March 16th, 2013 at 10:13 PM
Yikes. Sad to say I didnt even realize he retired. I have scoffed from the beginning that this could bring down the NFL and football. Consider me a heckuva lot less skeptical now.
March 16th, 2013 at 10:14 PM
I think we can all agree that the biggest travesty this college basketball season would be Duke getting a #1 seed.
March 16th, 2013 at 10:15 PM
HS and college should be fine. The NFL 15 years from now will be unrecognizable.
March 16th, 2013 at 10:16 PM
No, it’s sad to hear. But that’s the game. And it’s a similar story you’ll hear again and again in the coming years.
March 16th, 2013 at 10:22 PM
Refs keeping louisville in the game by ignoring half the fouls every time louisville presses
March 16th, 2013 at 10:22 PM
A toal ref show. Such bullshit
March 16th, 2013 at 10:24 PM
Wow…just wow…there’s a difference between pressing and mugging
March 16th, 2013 at 10:25 PM
The elbow hit the chest and they called a flagrant. Bullshit. Fucking joke of a ref
March 16th, 2013 at 10:27 PM
25-10 FT differential in favor of Louisville. Fuck that
March 16th, 2013 at 10:30 PM
No way refs can account for a 25+ point turnaround. Louisville just shifted it into another gear.
March 16th, 2013 at 10:30 PM
A.P. its like this in virtually every game I have watched. I dont know what the hell these refs are watching. If I were Boeheim I would pull them off the damn floor. Of course since his team is doing basically the same thing that might raise eyebrows,
March 16th, 2013 at 10:32 PM
No question Wayne. This was something to see. That Garden crowd was like a Knicks game and they turned it around. Very impressive.
Still, they were overtly, no gray area fouling every possession.
March 16th, 2013 at 10:34 PM
Wfs, refs help alot because louisville fouls on every press and gets away with it. Good defense but a lot of BS calls. They are calling everything on Cuse but when cuse drives, louisville gets away with murder.
March 16th, 2013 at 10:36 PM
Glad to see siva and russ smith go. Biggest fuckers ever. Never think they commit a foul yet they are always fouling
March 16th, 2013 at 10:37 PM
Yeah, fuck off Hancock, you grabbed the arm, dickface
March 16th, 2013 at 10:37 PM
Im not denying syracuse has gone cold but they have been hosed many times this half
March 16th, 2013 at 10:38 PM
Syracuse should have put this game away long time ago.
March 16th, 2013 at 10:39 PM
Cry a little more AP.
/not watching the game
March 16th, 2013 at 10:40 PM
Cant wait for louisville’s eventual loss in NCAA tourney when they go cold from 3
March 16th, 2013 at 10:40 PM
Shut up hick
March 16th, 2013 at 10:45 PM
Yah, peyton siva go eat a back of dicks
/turns on netflix
March 16th, 2013 at 10:45 PM
I really don’t see how Duke gets a 1 seed. If Louisville holds on, it should be as of now:
Gonzaga
Louisville
Indiana
Kansas
Miami
Duke
Even if Kansas and Miami both lose tomorrow, I’d still be hard-pressed to but Duke over both of them. The fix would be in if they get a 1.
March 16th, 2013 at 10:48 PM
Fix is usually in for duke. Then ryan kelly will have an off night and the rest of the team will be exposed
March 16th, 2013 at 10:51 PM
Really? You’re better than that.
March 16th, 2013 at 10:53 PM
There wouldn’t be anything better than them losing to a 16.
March 16th, 2013 at 10:54 PM
This really just isn’t true – NBA players play high-level defense, they just call fouls A LOT better than in college (Louisville probably gets away with 10-15 fouls a game) and NBA players aren’t incompetent offensively.
There is a nice medium between good offense and good defense – in college basketball, it just doesn’t happen because the offense is so bad. The ball is literally swung around the three point line for a good 20 seconds minimum in most possessions. It’s just boring.
March 16th, 2013 at 10:54 PM
Vlad, i apologize.
/caffeine withdrawl
March 16th, 2013 at 10:56 PM
Reducing the shot clock will help. No reason for it to be 35 seconds
March 16th, 2013 at 10:56 PM
Careful Bilas and Raftery, don’t hurt yourselves patting your own backs.
March 16th, 2013 at 10:56 PM
Louisville definitely turned that game around, but anyone would watched that game and didn’t think the officials played a huge role didn’t watch the game. Smith, Siva and Hancock were fouling repeatedly on the press.
Of course, Syracuse also really just isn’t that good this year. That TBL post on MCW as the #1 overall pick is hilarious in hindsight.
March 16th, 2013 at 10:58 PM
No need to apologize. Caffeine withdrawl? Pussy. I’m gonna catch ya in TBL fantasy hockey! Vez ruined the league though.
March 16th, 2013 at 11:02 PM
Syracuse is good. Just faded a bit late in season. The way they played in the first half was the way they played up until the UConn and Georgetown games. 56-26 in the secnd half was due to louisville shooting a high percentage, syracuse being sloppy, and bad officiating
March 16th, 2013 at 11:03 PM
Vez ruins everything
March 17th, 2013 at 4:22 AM
Karma guys…my great bobrovsky stats will be wiped out vs. Ap bc not enough goalie starts this wk
