Maryland Beats Duke, 83-74, But is That Enough to Get into the NCAA Tournament Field?
Dez Wells scored 30 points, didn’t miss a foul shot, and Duke couldn’t make 3-pointers, and the Terps stunned the Blue Devils, 83-74, to vault back into the NCAA Tournament picture.
The Terps only finished 8-10 in ACC play, but are now 22-11 and have beaten Duke – which probably isn’t a No. 1 seed anymore – twice. But is that enough?

The Blue Devils, which hadn’t lost with Ryan Kelly this season, shot a woeful 4-of-25 from beyond the arc. Kelly was 0-for-6. How can the committee deny Miami a No. 1 seed if the Hurricanes win the ACC tournament after winning the regular season title? They can’t. It’ll be Miami or the Big Ten runner up or Kansas.
Next up for the Terps in the semifinals is North Carolina, which has beaten Maryland twice this season by double figures in each game. Dez Wells (10-of-10 from the foul line) had two strong games against UNC this season, but his supporting cast was dreadful.

Um, UNC still has to win their game tonight to face Maryland. And it’s not even tipoff yet.

TBL calls his shot!

If that’s the case, then I would have expected a “my” Heels notation per his NBA affliction.

Maryland is in. UVA is out. Dook is a 2.
Drink up!

TBL picking the low hanging fruit with the Ryan Kelly undefeated comment. Yawwwwwnnnnnnn. As that is no longer relevant, let’s move on to which first or second round team is going to send Duke home on the first weekend.
GO HEELS

Losses to Georgia Tech and Wake Forest, combined conference record of 12-24 in a down year. Losing to Indiana State doesn’t help either.

Kansas hasnt done shit either to deserve a 1 seed.

Miami is not going to get a 1 over Duke. Losses to Wake, GaTech (home), Florida Gulf Coast and Indiana State.

Duke will absolutely be a one seed. Miami has dreadful losses and “Miami” on the front of their jerseys.
I’m a Terps fan and I still don’t think this is enough to get them in. Kentucky losing helped, but blowing that 17 point lead to Virginia sealed their fate. If they beat UNC, ok. Right now though they’re out even though two wins over duke is better than anything any other bubble team can show.

As a Xavier fan, this was tough to watch. Love Dez and he got screwed over by the school.

FYI, Florida Gulf Coast made the NCAA tournament. Also, Miami was missing key players at the beginning of the season when they had those losses (same time period when they beat Michigan State). If you’re not going to punish Duke for losses while missing Kelly, you can’t punish Miami for losses when they were missing their best guys

We can go round and round on this – by that logic, Duke is 1-0 vs. Miami this year. The Wake and GT losses were also full-strength for UM. Also if you’ve watched Miami this year Reggie Johnson is not one of their best guys. Fwiw Duke beat Florida Gulf Coast by 21 around the same time FGC beat Miami.
