Elvis Dumervil Agreed to Take a Pay Cut to Stay With Broncos, but Got Released When Paperwork Was Not Filed in Time
Elvis Dumervil had a guaranteed $12 million dollars that would have gone into effect if he was still on the roster by today’s deadline. Denver wanted him to take a paycut this year, as they tried to free up cap space after several other free agent moves.
With 24 minutes remaining until the deadline, Dumervil agreed to a negotiated paycut in exchange for shifting some guaranteed money to future years, according to Mike Klis. However, the Broncos did not receive a signature on a new contract until seven minutes after the deadline, and released Dumervil when they did not have the paperwork back before the 1:59 Mountain Time deadline.
Elvis Dumervil is now a free agent, free to negotiate an entirely new deal with Denver . . . or someone else.

If you are gonna take a 33% pay cut the least you could do is get your paperwork signed on time.
Why do I have a feeling that this was some sort of sleepy agent move because the agent didn’t want less money.

my favorite part of this story is the continual reference to that money he was never going to get “guaranteed.” I do not think that word means what you think it means.

As I understand it. he was going to get cut with no money or sign a deal for less money. He was never getting that $12 million.

I suspect it was Herb Tarlek that unplugged the fax machine.

I wonder if he shops around if that $8 mil will still be waiting for him. I dunno that he can get that on the open market, this late in FA.

yeah, but he originally signed a 6 year deal (in 2010) with 40 million guaranteed. This 12 million “guaranteed” dollars was part of that “guaranteed” money. And he was “guaranteed” that money, except how they were going to fire him unless he agreed to take less “guaranteed” money.

bad market for pass rushers this year, although he’s very good. But this has bad cap ramifications on the Broncos, I think.

5 million in dead money now for Denver, no matter what else happens, just from this 7 minute debacle.
March 15th, 2013 at 5:22 PM
So that $8 million won’t be waiting for him, or they’ll be paying him $13. Well then. Let’s see if there’s pressure on Peyton to “take less money like Brady did”
March 15th, 2013 at 5:23 PM
Which Peyton really can’t, because they can’t extend him, he’s already 40 at the end of the deal.
