UCLA Adidas Uniforms Have Zubaz and Sleeves, Subtle Yet Horrifying
Here’s UCLA Bruin Nick Kazemi modeling their new Adidas uniforms for the Pac 12 Tournament. Zubaz. Sleeves. Just aesthetically unpleasant.
If you’re going to go the zubaz route, a faint silver might be the most tasteful option. But we’re still not sure why this clean, classic look needed any update, let alone such a ghastly one.
If you were concerned this would be a one-time deal, fear not. There’s a more vibrant blue version still to come.

I think they could hide on campus in these uniforms. I bed they blend in nicely with those off-white stucco buildings

More Zubass than Zubaz, amirite?
March 14th, 2013 at 3:32 PM
Nike must love these uniforms.

The yellow trim is hilarious. Looks like an accident.

We’re all gonna die.

I’ve never understood how shooters can have sleeves. While these are probably better than the 1980s cotton tshirt craze, it still seems like it would mess with you.

An accident my dog had

Somewhere in the SyFy basement, a scriptwriter is now banging out an epic tale of bad acting and worse CGI to be televised some Saturday soon.

I’m not sure who should be more embarrassed, Adidas for thinking these might be a good idea, or UCLA for agreeing to it.
March 14th, 2013 at 3:42 PM
adidas is getting a a shit load of face time out of these.
kc, dallas.

Those unis are about as awesome as taking a shower with your own dad.
/taking a shower with your own dad is not awesome

How much power does the school have? They sign a deal and get paid, right? Surely if these schools had the power to say no, these would have never seen the light of day.
March 14th, 2013 at 3:42 PM
That’s a great question. It’s amazing Adidas would seriously pitch this as a final, complete product, but possibly more amazing that someone looked at these and said “sold.”
March 14th, 2013 at 3:43 PM
Adidas for thinking these might be a good idea, or UCLA for agreeing to it.
Adidas owns KU also. KU pretty much admitted they had no control over the design of the uniforms. Self went as far to say he preferred tradition. Once you take those millions of dollars and sign with the devil, you do what he says.
March 14th, 2013 at 3:44 PM
Man these really are much worse in real life than in the promotional picture.

Exactly.
Longjohn – Are you from down there or a transplant after college? I was born in Denton.

You’re doing it wrong

The yellow trim is hilarious. Looks like an accident.
Yes. It looks like West Virginia

transplant. native kansan. denton is underrated.
March 14th, 2013 at 3:47 PM
Indiana passed on them. UCLA should’ve done the same. I don’t blame schools like Marquette for looking like candy wrappers, but the classic schools gotta have just a little restraint.
March 14th, 2013 at 3:47 PM
native kansan.
Whereabouts?
March 14th, 2013 at 3:48 PM
The quote from Indiana’s AD was perfect:
http://www.thebiglead.com/index.php/2013/03/09/indiana-wisely-declined-those-awful-uniforms-by-adidas/
March 14th, 2013 at 3:48 PM
Indiana passed on them.
Different contract, I bet. It was pretty obvious Self hates the uniforms and he has more power than anyone at KU.
March 14th, 2013 at 3:49 PM
On the flip side this is the first time UCLA has been talked about in a year and had the focus on something besides a player pissing in another’s locker or a star getting suspended for being ineligible.
March 14th, 2013 at 3:50 PM
But if you’re an athlete that’s marketable whatsoever this would have to discourage you from signing with adidas over anyone else if the money’s close, wouldn’t it?
March 14th, 2013 at 3:51 PM
I doubt it. Self just has no soul, but he’s smart enough to say the right thing to detach himself from the horror show.
March 14th, 2013 at 3:51 PM
Didin’t he say (paraphrasing) “Sometimes you gotta wear stupid shit because your business partner wants you to.”

Also, the apparel contracts in the public domain generally give schools the right to refuse, or rather changes to uniforms or alternate unfiorms must be cleared by the school. I’ve also seen them where they say school promises to where X number of alternate designs, but the school always has final approval over the design.
March 14th, 2013 at 3:55 PM
These shoes should be required to top the look off
March 14th, 2013 at 3:56 PM
So he’s related to Saban?
March 14th, 2013 at 3:57 PM
Didin’t he say (paraphrasing) “Sometimes you gotta wear stupid shit because your business partner wants you to.”
Yes. And then he got a free golf trip to California.
March 14th, 2013 at 3:57 PM
That would have been perfect for the ties-and-shoes thread earlier.
March 14th, 2013 at 3:59 PM
Still though these aren’t as stupid as the Nike uniforms where it’s just a big logo and the team name on the back.
March 14th, 2013 at 4:01 PM
The monotone ones where the logo is the same color as the jersey and number? Those sucked, but these are worse.
March 14th, 2013 at 4:03 PM
Did you guys see those USF unis the other night? Whoo boy, those were an abortion.
March 14th, 2013 at 4:20 PM
