Towson Baseball Players Blacked Out the School’s Name on their Uniforms After Baseball & Soccer Were Cut
Last week, Towson University unceremoniously cut their baseball and men’s soccer teams. On Friday morning, baseball and soccer players were told there would be a meeting at 10am at the Field House. Some players were in class and others simply didn’t have enough time to get there. At 10 o’clock, Towson President Maravene Loeschke told the players who attended that their programs would be eliminated. She then left with a police escort.
Baseball coach Mike Gottlieb and soccer coach Frank Olszewski, who have been involved with the school for more than 70 years combined, will be terminated in June. That afternoon, the baseball players blacked out the school’s name with tape.

And apparently it isn’t a Title IX issue?

The soccer coach has been there for 35 years and they spelled his name wrong on his dismissal documents.

From what I’ve read and heard from people at Towson, Loeschke has been a real twat about the entire thing.

She had a police escort with her as she delivered the news to the coaches. Ridiculous. This lady makes Debbie Yow look like a peach

If this was Morgan State showing this level of incompetence and lack of leadership, the state would be all over this like white on rice, Those kids and parents deserve better than this. And to attempt to make Title XI the scapegoat is chicken dung.

I have a lot of friends who attended Mansfield University where Loeschke previously served as the schools President, and after reading this article, it looks as though she has a disgusting habit of taking away athletic programs. During her tenure at MU in 2006, she orchestrated the dissolving of its football team, a program that dated back to the late 1800′s and(along with Wyoming Seminary) in 1892, played in the first night football game in American history. And if I recall correctly, she used Title XI as a majority reason along with budgetary issues. And since 2008, the only football program that exists at MU is sprint football…not to take anything away from the sprint players, but it’s nowhere near the caliber that DII football produces. Way to go Loeschke – you may be great with the student body, but you sure know how to ruin athletics wherever you have your hand in things.
