Tom Brady’s Camp is Pissed the Patriots Dropped the Ball With Wes Welker, Who Left for Denver
Tom Brady’s reaction to the Wes Welker trade?
According to Tom Curran of Comcast Sports New England, “someone close to Brady” – his agent? His marketing executive? Brady himself? Brady’s doorman? Gisele? – is not thrilled with how his favorite target, Wes Welker, ended up in Denver. According to multiple NFL writers, the Patriots offered Welker just two years and $10 million. Money figures from the Denver/Welker deal haven’t been revealed yet. [UPDATE: He's getting two years, and $12 million from Denver]
Spoke to someone close to Tom Brady. Beyond enraged at contract details that netted Broncos Wes Welker. “Disgrace”"disservice” were used.

Remember, Brady just signed a franchise-friendly 3-year deal. And now, he’s lost his security blanket. To a rival.

Denver looks a lot like 8 and 8 to me and I am a Manning apologist.
Also, this is the most sober I have been (by several hundred million light years) in many days.

The night is still young.

Apparently those reactions weren’t from Brady but somebody close to Brady. Great tweet.

Tom Brady, remember your last contract, where you took less money to help the team get better players, and then they turned around and sat on the cap space?
You’re not very good at pattern recognition, are you?

That “Around the Web” picture of Ray Lewis with angel wings … I’m assuming that’s a reference to the Angel of Death, right?

The contract was easy for Pats to match. They pretty clearly wanted an excuse to move on. They jerked Welker around, pretended to want him, and let him go without a fight.
The half-heart “baby wait, don’t go” wasn’t going to get it done. And yeah, this is strikingly similar to 2006 (?) when the Pats took Brady’s cap savings, and pocketed it while trading away his best WR (Branch).
I don’t think bringing Branch back 7 years later will heal the wound. That said, I think they’ll be okay, they’ll prob keep Lloyd now and look for a downfield threat. If the TEs are healthy, Welker could really be old news with Lloyd and if they accidentally hit on a rookie WR who isn’t terrible.

Someone in the family finally got a clue and shut my credit cards down. So chances are decent I will get better.
One hell of a detox coming though. Sheesh.
March 13th, 2013 at 6:40 PM
But also… I wonder if Brady was okay with this. If he REALLY wanted Welker, you’d think they’d have made more of an effort, right?
/maybe not
March 13th, 2013 at 6:41 PM
Why would he REALLY want Welker? Seriously. People are acting like he is Don Maynard.
March 13th, 2013 at 6:45 PM
Who will Gisele bitch about now when the Pats lose in the 2013 playoffs?
March 13th, 2013 at 6:48 PM
Hey, TNCowboy, you aren’t by any chance a Canuck named Bergin?

Are you Soused’s long-lost American cousin?

Fantastic.

Soused’s cousin isn’t lost. They exiled him from the family and sent him to live in America because he didn’t profess enough hatred for the concept of right-of-center government, Edmund Burke, or Thomas Hobbes.

This character reminds me of a slightly less eloquent version of Flyer555…if I recall correctly he said he was a stock trader and had a huge gambling addiction, owed money to several bookies including ones connected to the mob, had taken out multiple mortgages on his house to cover his losses, and who constantly talked about doing coke, taking pills, and drinking nothing but expensive booze.

This isn’t the first time we’ve done this, Nada. Are you related to my Louisiana cousins? They hail from Oberlin.

I was definitely rooting for Flyer555 not to be killed by the mob for the money he owed. But as we haven’t heard from him in about two years…..

Nope different guy. This was way before the Todd Charske incident. When he mentioned he was a stock trader, I asked him if he beat the 4 year Lipper average. He wasn’t amused.
March 13th, 2013 at 7:17 PM
No to all of the above.

Wrong answer.

Yeah, I know. I just saw coke and lost homes and went with it.

Damn. Did that just happen? First I noticed and I agree with you. There is five column inches on either side of the post and comments. Utilize that if you have to have that stuff on the page.
March 13th, 2013 at 7:24 PM
Maybe it’s the 7 Shiner Bocks talking, but it seems to me that a Denver team with an old ass Manning, 2 white recievers and a white tight end doesnt really sound too scary.
March 13th, 2013 at 7:29 PM
Had to have been changed pretty recently. Wasn’t like this Sunday night.

Ah I see.
March 13th, 2013 at 7:33 PM
Damn! Pats just paid more than this for Amendola.

I think it just changed today. Around late morning, early afternoon.
March 13th, 2013 at 7:36 PM
It helps that Amendola is 5 years younger. But still, ouch.
March 13th, 2013 at 7:36 PM
Yea I noticed some other people had some similar sentiments about it like I had, couldn’t remember what days posts I was catching up on though.
March 13th, 2013 at 7:44 PM
If the Pats are confident they can keep Amendola healthy, I’d say they made the right move… if Welker went anywhere but Denver.
March 13th, 2013 at 7:46 PM
Woke up the other day and wasn’t ready to get out of bed yet so I was watching TV but couldn’t find the remote so I said fuck it and was half awake watching Fresh Prince. They were talking about how this guy shouldn’t be allowed to serve on the bench as judge because he wasn’t pro choice, and said the only choice he believed a woman should have is whether she wants the lights on or off. Never thought a Fresh Prince segment would have me dying.
March 13th, 2013 at 7:47 PM
I think if Welker is anywhere other than New England, he’s not nearly as good. Maybe the Pats thought that same way.

not my work, mind you, but the corporate overlords.
All your mobile site gripes go to the corporate folks as well. (my input was not taken on that version, which will definitely be gone by football season … the newer version will have my input.)
March 13th, 2013 at 8:45 PM
I’m sure they did. But Denver is exactly the kind of spot where Welker will thrive. They have a decent run game, a big-play receiver, and the tight ends can catch. If Manning wants it, he’ll have Welker 8-12 times per game, easily.
Clearly, the Patriots didn’t want to keep him. Which they made clear from (literally) day one of the past season. Except that everyone thought it was a “conspiracy theory” that they were “phasing him out”. If they want to change the offense, fine…I just don’t get why they are re-creating the Rams’ offense from two years ago. Wasn’t exactly prolific, if I recall.
March 13th, 2013 at 9:03 PM
So Wes welker is the Phil Jackson of NFL players? Only goes to the best qb to get his stats up?

Oh, yeah. Understood. Not a big deal. Just easier registering a complaint through the comment section than through email.
/Thanks for getting rid of that annoying pop up ad earlier this week.
