John Tortorella Was Especially Surly Following Loss to Sabres [Video]
Rangers coach John Tortorella was humorously unpleasant following his team’s 3-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night. The visibly disgusted coach refused to offer Buffalo any credit, calling them a team “ripe to be beaten,” and went on to suggest that perhaps his players should be answering some questions. The whole interview is an absolute delight, a true clinic in candor, but the money line came towards the end:
“I’m not gonna pick it apart. We sucked. And we sucked at a time that you can’t suck.”
There is simply no one better at being pissed off than the great John Tortorella. Someone really needs this guy on a golf course with Bob Knight immediately.

I’m not sure which one of you guys is CH Bruins in the TBL fantasy hockey league but I’d like to think I’ve given you a stroke from constantly ignoring your trade requests.

It’s only a matter of time before airing your team out to the media stops working. Year 4 of Torts in New York. I’d say that he’s being given just enough rope to hang himself this year. That, or he needs to learn a new trick.
Good coach. Just has an expiration date at every stop. Ken Hitchcock, Mike Keenan and Scotty Bowman can relate. Rangers should plan on canning him around the same time as the Flyers (wrongfully) terminate Lavvy.

Every time Torts is brought up, you say this.
March 13th, 2013 at 1:27 PM
Then he had one hell of a long expiration date.

No, the loss to the Pens gave me a stroke, not the ignores

I cannot wait for Therrien doing this when the Habs go out in the first round.

I forgot I had it tied to a different email so wasn’t seeing them and handled my roster through the phone app.
Also MAN what a game!

Also I cannot express how poorly missing out on a starting goalie in the draft because I had to leave and autodraft screwed me has worked for me thus far. Woof.

It’s a matter of time, Tim. Hitch’s boys in St. Louis are feeling the same heat. The Rangers, a team picked to win the east, are currently 3 points ahead of the Flyers who had a player state that if they lose twice to the Devils this week that their season is over.
Combine that with a few more flamingo legs from purported weiner tucker Rick Nash and Tortorella will finally reach a breaking point.
Tortorella is a coach whose voice becomes silent after a while. You can only be told you suck, you’re awful and we’re going to trade your ass so many times before a mutiny happens. Tortorella is one extreme. Someone like Joel Quenneville is the other. Players defend him to the death because he’s a players coach. Even when they grossly underperform.

Oh yeah and the Saviors of Hockey Chicago Blackhawks are only four points up on Anaheim who has a game in hand. It’s a matter of time.
March 13th, 2013 at 1:35 PM
Blackhawks trending down

Hockey coaches are hired to be fired. It is very rare when that isnt the case. I dont think what SC is saying anything new here. Especially for a firebrand like Tortorella.

Apropos of nothing, witnessing how tall Chara is in person was jarring. I commented that it was like a dying kid with gigantism was given a Make-a-Wish chance to play hockey. He then immediately scored.

Anaheim is playing great hockey. Corey Perry is about to miss 3-5 games though. Really irresponsible hit last night 50 feet away from the puck. Fasth is playing great though and Hiller is healthy again. They’ll be a tough out for sure.
Hawks won the cup as a two seed in 2010. Be nice to have home ice throughout the playoffs but not completely necessary. They have a 15 point cushion in the division currently to determine who best replaces Patrick Sharp on Dave Bolland’s left wing. Jimmy Hayes will be given that chance on Thursday in Columbus. Nice to see Quenneville actually going to the youth in this instance.

Trying to drive down his own trade value to get the fuck out of Anaheim.
March 13th, 2013 at 1:43 PM
Mike Babcock seems to be the last one standing now that Lindy Ruff is out in Buffalo. You could put Alain Vigenault in that category if he keeps his job and doesn’t make the Western Conference Finals this year.
March 13th, 2013 at 1:47 PM
He’s the friggin greatest. I wish NFL coaches talked like this after games. Coaches other than Jim Mora at least.
March 13th, 2013 at 1:47 PM
Mendenhall to AZ
March 13th, 2013 at 1:50 PM
Well when you’re replacing a guy who can’t stay healthy, might as well get one who can’t stay healthy, nor hang on to the ball, and has an awful attitude.
March 13th, 2013 at 1:54 PM
To be fair, the Devils are missing a few players, with Brodeur being one of them.
If the Flyers can’t beat a wounded Devils team twice this week, I’m going to see if I can buy a Phillies 17 game package with my Flyers playoff ticket money so I can watch Doc Halladay age up close.
March 13th, 2013 at 1:56 PM
That Nash deal actually took some good character players out of NY. He might have torched the Flyers last week (who hasn’t?), but I’m not a fan of Nash’s.
March 13th, 2013 at 2:00 PM
Let’s go Buffalo!
March 13th, 2013 at 2:00 PM
Butbutbutbut Katie Strang says Nash is loving life in the Eastern Conference and compares him to Steve Nash!

This statement broke my heart a little bit.
And I was supposed to go to the game on Friday, but this sinus infection is telling me otherwise.
March 13th, 2013 at 2:05 PM
Doc looked great giving up 7 yesterday…..
March 13th, 2013 at 2:11 PM
Rangers problem last wear was their inability to score goals and have Lundqvist stand on his head practically every game. Character means squat when you can’t score goals. 26 goals between the two cogs the Rangers gave up (Dubinsky 10, Anisimov 16). The trade is already more than worth it. Rangers have more offensive talent now than at any time in the last 5 years.
March 13th, 2013 at 2:17 PM
Mole you could have had carey price
March 13th, 2013 at 2:53 PM
Good coach. Just has an expiration date at every stop. Ken Hitchcock, Mike Keenan and Scotty Bowman can relate.
And like the others mentioned, he’ll be hired by another team almost immediately.
