Fernando Torres: Cheslea Career Encapsulated in One Pathetic GIF
Chelsea bought Fernando Torres for $75 million in 2011. Besides winning the Champions League and stumbling into the Golden Boot while winning Euro 2012, things just have not gone his way. After scoring 65 goals in 102 EPL appearances for Liverpool, Torres has scored just 14 in 74 appearances after two and a half seasons. Those that were scored were mostly against weak opponents, by accident or both. Chelsea have already bought his replacement.
Torres works hard, gets himself into advantageous positions. Then whatever the hell this is happens. It looks like the soccer equivalent of horrendous writers block. [GIF via 101GG]

This is pretty funny. Italian TV show is live and watching the Milan beat down.

A pretty brilliant transfer move by Liverpool, in retrospect.

Perhaps. It’s not like they’ve done jack without him, though.

They got $75 million for him. And Liverpool was getting into pretty desperate financial straights at the time, if I recall. They still aren’t completely in the clear, but getting that infusion definitely helped.

Hahaha, those live shows in Europe that monitor what’s going on in all the games are the best. Since some people don’t bother to pay extra for the extra cable channels that show many soccer matches, they watch those instead.
For instance, the epic Man City comeback last year as experienced by many Britons: http://youtu.be/YF8X8f_FSlQ

Touché.

And the rest of it went to Luis Suarez so hi your point is retarded.
March 13th, 2013 at 12:48 PM
I knew this would get Mole to come out. The man loves him some Carroll.

Suarez recently got a raise. Seems like Rodgers is starting to get genuinely worried about him getting attention from other clubs.

Site was eating my comments, I was trying to mock Duffy for the fact that this happening last Thursday and not showing up today “encapsulates TBL perfectly” but whatareyougonnado.
Carroll will never play for Liverpool again he doesn’t fit the system. If he can stay healthy at West Ham he will have a very good career there.

Doesn’t change the wastefulness. Suarez is saying adios after Pool misses CL again, so I’m not sure that you should be puffing out your chest.
March 13th, 2013 at 12:50 PM
Well, so they spent 1/3 of Torres’ transfer kitty wisely. I don’t think my point is completely off.
March 13th, 2013 at 12:50 PM
Yeah he signed a new five year deal and because of hitting the 20 goal mark got another raise. He isn’t going anywhere though.
That’s the best part about it. Suarez is the best player in England and is still only making half as much as Torres, nice work Chelsea. Also thanks for Sturridge!

Can we instead talk about how insane Messi’s first goal was yesterday? Holy fuck are his feet so fast.
March 13th, 2013 at 12:51 PM
Absolutely zero chance he leaves this summer. None.
March 13th, 2013 at 12:51 PM
I don’t follow the EPL that closely, but is he really the best player in the EPL? Better than say, Van Persie?
March 13th, 2013 at 12:53 PM
Ha!! Enjoy, what, Sturridge playing every 4th game. Sturridge is more brittle than your chances at Champions League.
March 13th, 2013 at 12:54 PM
Actually, most would take Bale and RVP over Suarez both on play and not being racist.
March 13th, 2013 at 12:56 PM
Nopppppe.
March 13th, 2013 at 12:59 PM

Because being a ‘racist’ has really hurt his ability to be a vital part of Liverpool. And certainly he’s the only player in the EPL with an unelightened view of others. Certainly no other player fits that description.

They had to spend it though and were in a no win situation. Because Torres waited until the last day there were going to have to overpay to get anything done. The Suarez negotiations took three weeks to get to the selling price, they didn’t have time to do that with Carroll or any other replacement and they couldn’t only have one striker the rest of the season. It didn’t work out, but they were going to have to overpay no matter who they signed unfortunately. Financially, the signings they made the next summer were much dumber in terms of the money spent.
March 13th, 2013 at 1:06 PM
Actually he’s only not featured in two games since signing and has scored in five that he has featured in so again, thanks for Sturridge! Enjoy none of your young Belgian stars being interested in ever coming back to the club by the way.
March 13th, 2013 at 1:13 PM
Suarez is the most loathsome cunt in the EPL but also has the most sublime skills and if he could finish any of the chances he created he wouldn’t be far behind Messi/Ronaldo in the “best player in the world” debate.
But still, fuck him.

In an unrelated story, shame that Brave Young Jack failed another drug test and has to miss the Bayern game with an “ankle injury.”

Demba Ba is a stop gap until Roman can throw even more money at another stiker..once Torres is shipped off of course. Maybe Lukaku will come back from loan but I was not expecting that for another year.
As for who made out better in the deal…unquestionable Liverpool cleaned got the better end of the deal regardless of Carroll not working out. Suarez, maybe a despicable humban being (If you watched Being Liverpool, he plays Monopoly with Lucas!), but I’d love to see him in Chelsea Blue. FFS…we have John Terry…he’d bang your wife and daugther for $5.
