So, using Villanova as an example (i realize they’re a bit of a weird case), are we saying MTSU or St. Mary’s would go 4-0 at home vs. Syracuse/Louisville/Georgetown/Marquette? Or even 3-1? I mean it’s obviously hypothetical but at some point during your season don’t you have to prove you’re capable of beating a team in the upper half of the field. St. Mary’s has the Creighton win at least….MTSU’s best win is Ole Miss which is teetering on the bubble as well.

They are down at 48 in Sagarin, and 46 in ESPN’s BPI. All of those would have them in the field of 68

Is that true? Is that taking into account the auto bids for crappy teams?

Put another way… are there 20 or fewer auto bids given out to teams worse than #48?

Posts like this make me miss the days of Dick Vitale getting irate over Va Tech not making it despite winning 10 ACC games

Give the final spots to small schools that win, albeit against lesser competition, over the bigger schools with a ton of losses that have one or two big wins due to all the chances they get.

And with things being equal may as well reward the one who won a bum league…if the BCS school’s pissed about it they’re free to join the A-Sun or whatever

I always would much rather have the “little guy” in the tournament over the 7th and 8th place teams in a BCS conference because the small schools make the tournament fun. To be honest none of these teams are going to win the title. You can point to VCU and George Mason, but neither made the title game.
