Martellus Bennett Will Sign With the Chicago Bears, the First Signing of the 2013 Free Agent Period
Martellus Bennett will sign with the Chicago Bears, according to Mike Clay of Pro Football Focus and Rotoworld. Bennett is a unique personality, so he should fit right in with the Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall combo. Chicago desperately needed to upgrade their receiving weapons, as Brandon Marshall was basically it last year, and they were playing Kellen Davis at tight end (yuck). Let’s put it this way–Matt Forte was second on the team with 44 catches, and no one else had thirty. Bennett had 55 catches for 626 yards and 5 touchdowns last year catching passes from Eli Manning.

Not official yet, but encouraging nonetheless. A tight end that can both block and catch the ball. Might have to go back to a certain coach, from a certain city with broad shoulders, with a certain intimidating mustache to find a tight end like that in Bears history.

Can’t believe the Giants didn’t lock him up

The photo reminds me, AJ Hawk hasn’t been cut yet…wonder if they’re waiting to see how Desmond Bishop and DJ Smith bounce back from injury and will instead do the deed in training camp
Not a bad signing for the Bears, I miss Jerry Angelo more and more each day

when I first saw this I thought it said “worst” signing, and then immediately thought Lisk had gone crazy.

Jerry Reese is cold man—“I can get 35 catches out of any tight end.” Said after letting Kevin Boss go.

did Olsen fall out of favor because he couldn’t block? or did their scheme at the time just not feature the tight end all that much?

I’m not sure Desmond Clark was from Chicago, or had a mustache, but I’ll take your word for it

Didnt they just sign him to kind of big money just a year ago? I dont think he’s great, but who the hell are you replacing him with?
Watch them draft that noodle armed southern Cal kid way too high to play in freaking Buffalo.

Martz didn’t like olson knifey
Bears have signed peppers and Marshall in fa past six years and now this
March 12th, 2013 at 4:26 PM
Do they still draft a tight end? I saw some mocks with the bears drafting that TE out of ND.

Mike Martz hates tight ends more than drawing up plays for Marshall Faulk in Super Bowls

Easily forgotten when you remember the litany of players that were throwing him the ball but yeah, he was a decent tight end in his day.
Mike Martz.
