Conference/Record: Missouri Valley (27-7)

Location: Omaha, Nebraska

Famous Alums/Attendees: MLB Hall of Famer Bob Gibson attended CU from 1953-1957. NBA alumni include Kyle Korver, Anthony Tolliver, and Paul Silas. J. Joseph Ricketts, the founder of TD Ameritrade and Owner of the Chicago Cubs graduated from Creighton in 1968.

Random Fun Fact: Despite being a private Jesuit school in Nebraska with an undergraduate enrollment of just 4,153, the Bluejays play in one of the largest arenas in college basketball – the 17,260 seat CenturyLink Center Omaha.

Tournament History/Most Recent: This will be Creighton’s 18th NCAA Tournament appearance, and their 9th since 1999. Creighton lost to North Carolina in the round of 32 last year, and has reached three Sweet Sixteens.

Good Wins/Bad Losses: In non-conference play, Creighton beat Wisconsin 84-74 on a neutral court, and has a win against Cal in Haas Pavilion in December. The Blue Jays started 17-1 (their only loss was at home to Boise St), before struggling down the stretch in conference play.

Notable Player(s): It’s hard to discuss Creighton with bringing POY candidate (and coach’s son) Doug McDermott into the conversation. The 6’8” Junior is averaging 23 points per game while shooting 51% on three point shots and 57% from the field. Also contributing is 5th year senior (and Rutgers transfer) Gregory Echenique, and Grant Gribbs (a Gonzaga transfer) who is averaging 9 pts, 4 rebs, and 6 assists per game.

All-Important Rankings: 25 (RPI), 15 (Pomeroy), 31 (Seven Overtimes)

Outlook/Seed: Earlier in the season, it looked like Creighton could play their way to one of the top seeds, but their struggles in February have moved them down a few spots in the S-Curve. Look for this team to slide into a 5-12 game, setting up the potential for a big time matchup in the Sweet 16 with a #1 seed.
