Avery Bradley Plays Such Suffocating Defense, Opponents Have Asked Him to Ease Up
Avery Bradley, the third-year guard from Texas, is developing a reputation as one of the best young defensive players in the NBA.
Long and pesky, he shot the ball much better last year (49/40) and coming off an injury, isn’t the offensive threat he was in 2011-2012. But defensively, he’s hounding players to the point that they’re complaining to him. Witness his defense this week on Philly’s Jrue Holiday:
Eye is coo! Not sure how it want a and1 but oh well!Highlight of the night, JRU came to me and @avery_bradley and ask us to cool the Defense
— Courtney Lee (@CourtneyLee2211) March 6, 2013
And in January, Jameer Nelson of the Magic begged him to ease up:
According to Bradley, Nelson begged him to back off: “I looked at him and he kept telling me throughout the game… ‘don’t pick me up.’ And that’s when I knew that if I brought pressure, he didn’t want nothing to do with it.”
I can’t remember the last time an NBA player asked an opponent to relax on defense. What are Holiday and Nelson expecting, an easy pass to the basket? Some breathing room? Avery Bradley is my new favorite Boston Celtic.

is Courtney Lee from Jamaica?
March 8th, 2013 at 6:08 PM
Avery Bradley is awesome and the reason why the Celts keep winning after losing Rondo, Jared Sullinger, and Barbosa. As Kevin Garnett states, “he is everything to our defense.”
March 8th, 2013 at 6:09 PM
I just remember him as a sharpshooter SG forced to play point (I think after TJ Ford left ?) sort of like Steph Curry. No idea he’d be this good on defense.
/as always, Rick Barnes sucks
March 8th, 2013 at 6:10 PM
I have no idea who or what I’m thinking of, but I’m pretty sure everything in that sentence is wrong, and TJ Ford was like 10 years earlier.
March 8th, 2013 at 6:13 PM
And Bradley was only at Texas one year. Other than all that I’m totally right.
/still more right than Darrell
//from what I hear
March 8th, 2013 at 6:14 PM
Trying to read that tweet actually made me stupider
March 8th, 2013 at 6:20 PM
I’ll re-post this here. Looking for feedback.
If applying for a job where they want you to submit a resume via email, would you simply send an email with your resume attached and nothing else? Or would you provide background/additional information in the body of the email?
March 8th, 2013 at 6:24 PM
Send something in the subject. A few brief sentences
March 8th, 2013 at 6:24 PM
oh goodness Topanga all grown up
March 8th, 2013 at 6:25 PM
Meth I would use the email as a brief cover letter opportunity.
March 8th, 2013 at 6:31 PM
I’m going to sound like a dumbass but what does a cover letter include? I’m used to doing this the old school way. Filling out an application in person and waiting for a phone call.
March 8th, 2013 at 6:46 PM
I justed emailed you one I used before. I googled cover letters and fond an example of one I liked and have just changed the specifics (like company, position, etc) each time.
March 8th, 2013 at 6:48 PM
To whom it may concern,
Cover letters are a waste of both our time. I am a hard worker and would be an asset to your company. I have experience relating to your business at (whatever the fuck).
Thank you,
Done and done.
March 8th, 2013 at 6:48 PM
Good ol’ google showed me. I just remembered I can’t send it till after my lunch break anyways. They want work references included as well and I don’t remember the phone numbers off the top of my head. Have to get them off my phone. Don’t know how good my chances of getting this are anyways. It’s out of state.
March 8th, 2013 at 6:48 PM
I’m going to sound like a dumbass but what does a cover letter include? I’m used to doing this the old school way. Filling out an application in person and waiting for a phone call.
It introduces your resume and is the reason the will even look at it. Are you responding to an opportunity, trying for one, or is it for networking? Each has a different purpose. It is a way to sell yourself and your personal experiences that help explain the resume somewhat but not a knockoff of your resume.
March 8th, 2013 at 6:49 PM
Nicely done, Soused. Maybe I should just start applying for jobs like Red applies for parole that last time in Shawshank.
Thanks, Smallie. I’ll check it out.
March 8th, 2013 at 6:56 PM
Meth do they want the resume attached or within the sent message? they just may want your resume in the body of the email and no cover letter. If they ask for a cover then you have to attach the resume in either PDF or Word depending on what they ask.
March 8th, 2013 at 7:01 PM
It says to either apply in person or submit a resume through email. They didn’t specify how they wanted it submitted though.
March 8th, 2013 at 7:04 PM
what does the job posting say?
March 8th, 2013 at 7:07 PM
March 8th, 2013 at 7:15 PM
This. If you reply with just a resume, I take it as “fuck it…I’ll just throw it out there and see what happens”. It takes all of 5 minutes to do some basic research on the company you are applying for, and it shows like you actually care.
March 8th, 2013 at 7:16 PM
Meth, attach resume and state your desire to apply for job and give some experiences based on your resume for them in your cover letter which should not be attached but typed out in the email. You may want to type in word then copy and paste it so it saved.
March 8th, 2013 at 7:22 PM
Thanks for the input. I think I’m going to wait and do that when I’m not at work. I’m not trying to save my resume and all that to files on here and have them do an audit on my computer.
Looking for other jobs, are we Meth?
No.
/Yeeeees.
March 8th, 2013 at 7:26 PM
/goes back and looks at link i posted
//oh danielle fischel you are fantastic
March 8th, 2013 at 7:27 PM
I actually probably fucked that up already though because in order to get the attachment to load for me to put it in an email I had to download it from my inbox, and we have a tracker that shows what you downloaded. And my resume is titled exactly as follows:
(My name)’s Resume
There’s no denying what that is.
March 8th, 2013 at 7:29 PM
I did enjoy that. Funny how when I’m shown a picture of a woman with some big ol’ funbags you could offer me a million dollars to tell you what color her eyes are, and I would not be receiving a million dollars.
March 8th, 2013 at 7:31 PM
On topic to this post, it can definitely be argued that Bradley is their most important player. The splits of how they’ve done with/without Bradley are amazing. Especially if you compare to the splits with/without Rondo.
March 8th, 2013 at 7:33 PM
Bradley is unselfish. Rondo is good but way too selfish with assists. Celtics blow too many easy opportunities with rondo at point
March 8th, 2013 at 7:33 PM
Though I know what you mean, that just doesn’t sound right.
March 8th, 2013 at 7:34 PM
Unless the vacancy announcement requests one, or you feel that there is info that you weren’t able to fully note in the resume, don’t waste time with a cover letter. If anything, send a thank you, follow up letter after the interview.
March 8th, 2013 at 7:43 PM
Dunno if it’s too late, but my wife does some hiring, and deletes emails without a cover letter. The two rules I’d say is:
1) resume attached. DON’T copy-pase (people do this way too much)
2) cover letter attached is preferable… but at least format the email like a nice formal cover letter. it’s best to say “blah blah please see my attached cover letter and resume for information” .
That way you control the formatting, make it easy to read/refer/save etc.
And this goes without saying, but NO GRAMMATICAL ERRORS
March 8th, 2013 at 7:45 PM
If they don’t want a cover letter specifically, make the email your cover letter.
March 8th, 2013 at 7:47 PM
It depends how much contact you’ve had. If you haven’t met them and you are cold replying to an online ad, absolutely make the email a formal cover letter or attach one. No one is going to delete you email for having one, but you might get it deleted for not… I just asked my wife her opinion and she agrees, strongly.
March 8th, 2013 at 7:59 PM
from what i’ve been experiencing lately, prospective employers are just itching for ways to eliminate people from consideration.
best of luck, meth
March 8th, 2013 at 8:04 PM
I’ll heed that advice. Smallie sent me a pretty good example of one. I’ll get something figured out.
Thanks. If I hear anything back I’ll be sure to update. It’s time for an employment upgrade. I anxiously await the day the doors of this place close behind me for the last time.
March 8th, 2013 at 8:07 PM
Might I suggest not using “Monster is Meth” as the name on your resume and cover letter? I’d actually steer away from all references to meth, as well as anything in the cocaine family.
March 8th, 2013 at 8:11 PM
There are stories of 1,000 people making the cert for a GS-5 clerical position in the government, including applicants with Masters and Ph’D's. You best believe people find ways to eliminate resumes.
March 8th, 2013 at 8:17 PM
Sarcasm at its finest. I’ll assume your real name isn’t Wide Word of Sport (?).
March 8th, 2013 at 8:22 PM
If I ever get to be someone important when I grow up, I’m definitely getting an “of” in my name.
March 8th, 2013 at 8:24 PM
i’m not applying for government positions.
submit a resume, wait two weeks for a phone pre-screen interview. wait two weeks, send an e-mail to ask about the progress, told they are still doing pre-screening.
pretty sure this place won’t even bother to bring me in. total waste of time. i should just move to mexico and live on the beach.
March 8th, 2013 at 8:28 PM
There’s some money under a rock in the corner of a field in Maine, if you need some cash for it.
/should be working
//20,000 words to go
March 8th, 2013 at 8:30 PM
Maybe you have to add the “of” to become that someone who’s important. People will wonder why you have “of in your name, and when they ask you why you can give them the look of you being in deep transient thought for a few moments, and then say, “‘Cause.”
Beardown my brother’s in the same spot. Applied to a place, they set up an interview so he came down here to stay with me. Turns out the interview was actually just taking a test. They scheduled the real interview the following week and said he’d hear back by this week if he got it. Heard nothing.
March 8th, 2013 at 8:31 PM
When I was looking, I probably applied to 2-3 places a day for about 2 months, and I ended up with 2 interviews. I removed myself from consideration on one of them after a phone interview, and ended up getting the other position after 4 interviews. The hiring process was vastly different than I remember after being at my old job for 9 years right out of college.
March 8th, 2013 at 8:32 PM
Such cold winters. Lost my dog in the woods up there when it was 20 degrees below 0 out. And by woods I mean vast fucking wilderness. And by I lost the dog I mean my now-ex girlfriend lost the dog.
March 8th, 2013 at 8:34 PM
By “lost” I mean “ran over”, and by “dog” I mean “son”

gotta chill with the ‘AM I BANNED?’ panic. must have gotten 3-4 of those this week.
if you change your name, your comments get snagged (system, not me).
there’s a bunch of other tech things I don’t get that cause comments to get eaten. i wish i knew. i don’t.
if your comments aren’t appearing, email me and I’ll do my best to fix things.
March 8th, 2013 at 8:38 PM
I figure if you’ve put up with me this long, I’m just part of the background noise, and am safe.
/don’t ban me
March 8th, 2013 at 8:42 PM
Jmac when you ban someone I assume its by IP address. Isn’t there some message they would then get to let them know? Or are we all just pawns and don’t know we’re banned until none of our comments actually show up?

March 8th, 2013 at 8:53 PM
Just be glad you don’t have to check the “yes” box next to the question: “have you been convicted of a felony in the past 7 years?”
March 8th, 2013 at 8:54 PM
Meth, have you ever been convicted of a felony?
Yea, murder, and if you don’t give me this job….
March 8th, 2013 at 8:55 PM
So after 7 years you’re free and clear?
March 8th, 2013 at 8:57 PM
AP you don’t have to answer, but what was the felony? You seem like a good dude fro what I gather.

March 8th, 2013 at 9:04 PM
Just wanted to share. I got one of the best invites to a wedding of a baseball player I coached. He just wanted to tell me that he wouldn’t be where if he didn’t play for me. He was an all-state all-academic 2nd baseman who chose Cuse (hated it as a UConn alum) then went to Penn and graduated with Summa Cumlaude in psychology. He is now working a hospital dealing with addicts. I couldn’t be more proud and he wasn’t the only one. He just wrote to me that I was a very large influence on his decisions and desires to achieve more. I couldn’t be more proud.
March 8th, 2013 at 9:07 PM
Sorry Penn was as a Grad student with Cuse as an undergrad. He played for the Club team as Cuse doesn’t have a real team. Sorry, UConn Alum in me laughs that they only have a club team going into the ACC.
March 8th, 2013 at 9:08 PM
Rather not disclose. Just dumb choices by me that ill pay for til next decade
Meth, every state is different, some states only ask about last 7 years, others 10. A couple states, including massachusetts, don’t necessarily ask you.
March 8th, 2013 at 9:08 PM
Deeser, youre old
March 8th, 2013 at 9:11 PM
I think we are 10 years here but I don’t remember. Chick at work is always complaining that her boyfriend can’t get a better job because of his record. Well the motherfucker shouldn’t have been breaking into houses then.
March 8th, 2013 at 9:13 PM
In MA, if you kill enough chicks they actually elect you senator.
March 8th, 2013 at 9:19 PM
In MA, they have legal assisted suicide. Its called messing up in the rotaries.
March 8th, 2013 at 9:23 PM
Fair enogh AP. I know you’ve talked about struggling to find consistent work, have you ever looked into auto sales? It cna be long hours, but if you’re at a good dealership it’s doable to make a good living, and in my experience having a record isn’t a disqualifier because you’re working on commission.
March 8th, 2013 at 9:24 PM

Great story deeser and kudos
Smallie I’ll make meth more mad: I have seen blazing saddles and just don’t get the love. Punching horses and farts by the campfire and bigdick black cowboys
I get that it was edgy then…but give me 50 other comedies before that one
March 8th, 2013 at 9:34 PM
Smallie are you still in the dealership biz? Do you read Automotive News?
March 8th, 2013 at 9:35 PM
Hess is getting out of the retail oil business. I assume you don’t still write for American OPEC or whatever that mag was though?
March 8th, 2013 at 9:36 PM
what’s up Vez? I poured a couple Manhattans made with Bulleit Rye and now switched to Bell’s 2 hearted.
March 8th, 2013 at 9:37 PM
I left the auto industry in October, but I read Automotive News weekly for approximately 6 years prior to that.
March 8th, 2013 at 9:37 PM
Smallie I’ll make meth more mad: I have seen blazing saddles and just don’t get the love.
GTFO.
March 8th, 2013 at 9:37 PM
You’ve got your opinion, I’ve got mine. I can’t even watch that movie anymore because I did to it what I did to almost every other funny movie I’ve seen. I watched it so much I can’t even stand to sit through it anymore. Snatch and Boondock Saints are other prime examples.
March 8th, 2013 at 9:41 PM
So you have the rest of your life to watch that movie, Smallie. I don’t even want it back.
March 8th, 2013 at 9:45 PM
Wwos i do still write for opis so i knew that but I’ll take any tjps anytime
Smallie…bottoms up. I bought some left hand milk stout nitro yesterday and will crack one in a few. I asked about AN because i have a foot in the door to write for it but they want story ideas about whats new with dealers…whats an issue or two, etc
March 8th, 2013 at 9:51 PM
Haven’t seen a Hess in quite some time. Think there might be 1 I can see from the highway on the way to PA. That’s about it.
March 8th, 2013 at 9:51 PM
Never heard of it.
You should write about the impact of rental car companies selling cars directly to the public. Normal dealers hate it because they get the majority of their used cars from the rental car companies and can’t compete with the prices.
March 8th, 2013 at 9:58 PM
Bunch of Hess stations up here in NY.
March 8th, 2013 at 10:03 PM
Smallie, i applied for a few different positions at local car dealerships. No such luck. Tried for office jobs or service desk. Not having sales experience did not help
March 8th, 2013 at 10:03 PM
Smallie, what field are you in now?
March 8th, 2013 at 10:04 PM
smallie, i will pitch it…how new car guys are dealing with it. think it’s a national issue?
how long has it been going on?–they may have already written about it
March 8th, 2013 at 10:07 PM
left hand milk stout nitro
Never heard of it.
there’s so many god damn craft beers now…a lot of guys here are aficionados, so i have a lot of names of beer in my head, and since my wife works for whole foods, we get 20% off. they have a great selection, and yesterday this is what i picked
it’s a stout, so dark and thick, but not like molasses. it’s a good winter beer
March 8th, 2013 at 10:09 PM
Just throw in some troll tactics. How do new car guys deal with having to sell new cars when all the rental company salesmen keep coming to the lot and putting Meth’s dog’s massive turds in the trunks of all the cars?
March 8th, 2013 at 10:14 PM
i like it meth. double byline if it all works out, oops, triple, with smallie’s
got a cortisone shot in my right knee today. was weird. now it hurts more than it did before, but the doc says if we didn’t start with the shot, the insurance company would never go for heading straight to an MRI from the initial exam
March 8th, 2013 at 10:16 PM
Gotta love insurance companies. Speaking of them, getting some wisdom teeth taken out here soon. They only cover 50 or 70% depending on if it’s minor or major surgery. Anyone know if getting wisdom teeth pulled is considered minor or major?
March 8th, 2013 at 10:18 PM
Vez it has a much larger impact on used car sales. Think about it, how often do you see a 1 year lease, or how often do you people buy a new car and trade it within a year (conservative estimates are 20% loss n value as soon as a new car is drivn off the lot)?
The biggest rental car company sells 7-800,000 cars annually to other dealers for their used car lots, but sells 70-80,000 cars directly to the public through their used car lots. Who do you think gets better prices?
March 8th, 2013 at 10:20 PM
meth, it’s major if there’s complications, like them being crooked. if they come out easy, nothing more than a couple slugs of booze and a something to squeeze
you know, for the pain
March 8th, 2013 at 10:21 PM
thanks smallie. how long has it been going on? and how have dealers dealt with it?
March 8th, 2013 at 10:21 PM
AP I just started in commercial insurance sales. closed my 1st account last week. BIG change for me. I’ve taken a solid month’s worth of classes since I started in October and i still feel like I know nothing.
March 8th, 2013 at 10:24 PM
These two will probably be minor then.
March 8th, 2013 at 10:25 PM
Vez, I can only speak from personal experience, but the largest car rental companies have been selling cars directly to the public for 50 years. the 2nd largest rental company just re-entered the retail market. Dealers have had to adjust margins to stay competitive, or they face losing business to the source (rental car companies).
March 8th, 2013 at 10:25 PM
When I got one pulled a few years ago he showed it to me and asked me if I wanted it. That’s not what’s up, Doc. No thanks.
March 8th, 2013 at 10:27 PM
Also Vez, I can get you some contact info for some higher ups at a rather large rental car company’s used car sales division. Can’t guarantee they’ll respond, but you never know.
March 8th, 2013 at 10:28 PM
and on a completely seperate note, why are you Vez if your name is Joe?
March 8th, 2013 at 10:30 PM
Because Maximillius Zirilius Cornelius the third was already taken.

i wrote on twitter the other day ‘you can’t spell Chavez without Vez’
March 8th, 2013 at 10:33 PM
smallie, can you email me? it’s on the blog when you click my name. if they like the idea i’ll be in touch
March 8th, 2013 at 10:34 PM
I thought the streak was just scoring in consecutive games?
March 8th, 2013 at 10:38 PM
I’ll shoot you a note this weekend.
March 8th, 2013 at 10:39 PM
it was called unbeaten streak by some because even though they lost three shootouts, that’s not really hockey. so fans could say ‘they haven’t lost playing hockey’
their record was 21-0-3 before tonight

Beers consumed:
something
menu
Some scotch ale – 8 thumbs up
Hawaiian hoppy beer – shallow and pedantic, any cunt can make a hoppy bore
double bock – flat, shite western chocolate nonsense
wellington imperial – dull, decent finish, cunty winding-up
netherworld – 22 thumbs up, doctor zhivago and lara would
honey bee beer thing? – Respectable, made me think of honey antibodies
dead elephant something – fucking awesome, love it, fuck yeah
budweiser – for the voters, bland. watered down, marketed nonsense that will kill you
Oi, was at some 90210 party in the end at this shite bar for full of drunk college cunts in the prime of their glorious debauchery. Two women for the custome contest dressed as Brenda and Kelly wearing the same dress to the prom (apparently this is a thing). Brenda character seemed like a massive bitch and she was a terrible loser in the face of defeat to the soundtrack of blur song 2.

And this. didn’t know about this.
