Aren’t state school football coaches always listed on the list of a state’s highest paid employees?

Technically they are university (state) employees, but it’s my assumption that at many major (insert Iowa not being major joke here) public universities, athletics are self-funded. I could see this being an issue at your local DII or community college, not at one where the football program is not only paying for itself, but paying for other athletic programs as well. I know in the state of Michigan Hoke and Dantonio are a net cost of $0.00 to the taxpayers. Their university Presidents aren’t and, as a result, should be held to a different standard with regard to nepotism.

I’m assuming Iowa’s athletic program is ran financially independent from the University.

I don’t think this is necessarily a valid argument. Aren’t state school football coaches always listed on the list of a state’s highest paid employees? I’m not sure where that line is drawn, but you figure if coaches are state employees, isn’t this guy?
