Kirk Ferentz’ fiefdom is being investigated for violating Iowa’s nepotism policy, again. Last year, Iowa tried to claim Ferentz recused himself from hiring his son as offensive line coach. This year, his hiring of administrative assistant Tyler J. Barnes in January 2012. Mr. Barnes became engaged to Ferentz’ daughter Joanne around six months into his tenure. Guessing the Iowa athletic department will claim it was a rapid courtship.

Nepotism is the way of the world, except when it involves fair hiring and allocation of funding at a public institution. We’re pretty sure Ferentz can afford to set up a “Kirk Ferentz Foundation” to keep relatives gainfully employed.
