High School Teacher Hits Half-Court Shot at Thunder Game to Win $20,000 For His Family
Heath Kufahl, a high school teacher and boys basketball in Oklahoma hit a shot from halfcourt at halftime of the Thunder/Lakers game to win $20,000. As Kelly Hines of Tulsa World explains, the money will go to good use.
Kufahl is incredibly deserving not only because he’s supporting a family of eight on a teacher’s salary, but also because his wife, Jenni, was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer last fall. She has been undergoing chemo treatments but received a good report last month that her tumors have shrunk and no new cancer was discovered.
Good luck to the Kufahls. The Oklahoman ran a story about the family in October.

Dude needs to take a page from Der Kaiser’s book and go get them tubes tied.

They implied that the family of eight thing would have been enough when they said “not only”. The cancer thing obviously sucks and I’m happy he won the money for that reason.

A pet peeve of mine. What do you all think?
If it’s men’s basketball and women’s basketball, it should be boys’ basketball and girls’ basketball. Why possessive in one application and not possessive in a similar application?
If you go with boys and girls bball, then it should be men bball and women bball.

“Broken facemasks happen here and there, but can honestly say we don’t remember seeing an entire piece of a helmet break off because of a hit.”
I’ve never seen that in all my years of playing/watching. Managed to break two facemasks in my playing days, but never a cranium-buster.

Something I always hated: getting your facemask hooked on someone’s shoulder pads, or vice versa. Awkward.

ha. yes it was, standing there waiting for someone to unhook you from a person you don’t know and are standing way too close to

“Am I an asshole if I don’t think this is a good reason why he is deserving of it?” Probably so. People act like having a lot of kids is a drain on society. People with means, support, and education having lots of kids is a benefit to society. More educated taxpayers isn’t a bad thing. Europe is starting to deal with a crisis because of this issue. The tax base is eroding because their tax payers aren’t replacing themselves. From what I understand this is a good couple. He’s a teacher and coach at a good private school in OKC. I’m sure they do fine, or did until the cancer thing.

No matter how good the parents are I would be shocked if all 8 turn out to be quality individuals. Maybe I am too pessimistic.
