Victor Oladipo Swatting an Ohio State Layup Into the Stands Might be the College Basketball Block of the Year [Video]
All, College Basketball, Video March 5th. 2013, 10:50pm
Victor Olapido absolutely destroyed this shot by Ohio State’s Shannon Scott during tonight’s Indiana – Ohio State game. Olapido elevated and blocked a shot that was around the top of the square on the backboard when he got to it. It was a full-on Dikembe Mutombo-in-the-cereal-aisle block that sent the ball into the stands on the sideline. As you can see, Thad Matta didn’t quite know what to make of the rejection.

It was impressive the way he did it and he swatted it out of bounds (if you like that kind of block – you do give the other team the ball back) but that is such an easy block. An off the ball help block of a guy that is guarded heavily where he has a low release point.
Most guys wouldn’t jump that high and look that good doing it but a ton of guys make that block in the same situation, imo

That was a goaltend. Anyways, EAT SHIT CREAN AND FUCK OFF INDIANA.

Oh yeah. Very easy play.

Nah. Withey (seriously, not a Homer) has one of those a game. Control the block and whatnot. He could have grabbed that out of mid air.
Still a cool ass block.

While I agree mostly that swats like this are pointless since you give the ball right back. The flip side is if you barely contact it and don’t corral it then you essentially created a loose ball right underneath the opposing teams basket. Same idea as not saving a loose ball under the opposing teams basket. On a fast break I will take a block out of bounds and reset my d.

And since OSU scored on that possession… it was worth absolutely nothing.
Grab the ball out of midair and throw an outlet pass. Then I’ll be impressed.

Dawg – that’s a fair point. Same reason why icing/covering the puck isn’t so bad a play sometimes in hockey. You get to re-set. But that block was a waste.

1.) A block was called on Jordan Hulls on this play.
2.) That reaction by Matta was in reaction to a horrible block called against Ohio State on a totally different play.
Other than that, solid blog post.

Glad to see that not all the commenters on this blog ignore the existence of hockey like the blog itself.

What in the world does one have to do with the other?

Didnt watch the game, too late and and I went to bed early. Just saw the score and box score. How the fock did IND lose to this underachieving, 1-trick pony OSU team???
Seriously, stop DeShaun Thomas and that’s the gameplan. Aaron Craft had 15??? How do you let that turnover machine get to double-digits?? And Oladipo 7 pts? WTF.
Everytime I think IND looks like the best team in the country, they shit the bed. At home and on SR nite no less.

Ohio State is far from a one-trick pony.
I’d also like to how you figure that Craft is a turnover machine. Indiana has 3 starters alone who average more TOs a game than he does. 26 players in the Big 10 turn the ball over more than he does.

Umm, legally, no there is not.

and then again it might not.

as long as you’re making stuff up, next time maybe you could post a gif of Lucille Ball or James Dean reacting to a play. it be a helluva lot funnier.
I can only think of about one or two or a thousand college players who could pull of that kind of block. Now that I think of it, I am sure I have seen high school kids do that as well.
Block of the year? Really? I don’t even think it was the block of the game.

1. that was a goaltend
2. he swatted it out of bounds and ohio st scored 6 seconds after inbounding so the result of the block was nothing #BALLDONTLIE
3. it was a crazy athletic play… that much is true
