Yeah, I’d be horrible. Out of my element. Some people get nervous speaking in front of people. I get messed up speaking into a microphone/phone in front of nobody.

I’m a very experienced public speaker, and usually very comfortable with my material, but I’m pretty sure I use “umm” and fidget a lot. I’d be terrible on a podcast, or on TV, for a long time.

I taught public speaking for one semester at a community college. One of the hardest bad traits to break is using “uh, um, err,” etc.. As the semester went on, i would penalize for doing that in their speeches.

Work was closed for several several days over the past couple of weeks due to Death Kill Snow I and II. I had to change my greeting on the work phone. All I had to do was say, “We are closed due to the snow. Check back in tomorrow to see if we are open.” I managed to drop 15, “uhs, ums, errs” into each message. I do public speaking once a week and don’t do that. I guess not having an audience in front of me neutered me.

50 minutes isn’t a marathon podcast. It’s normal.

Agree with A.P. on this. It may seem relatively long to you, but to those (at least me) who listen to podcasts regularly the average is typically 50-80 minutes so don’t feel the need to cut it short if you connect with a guest and are rolling. 2 hours is more of a marathon and is often cut into 2 episodes. If the content is really good, people will likely listen despite the extra length.

I will often split up listening to a single podcast for a couple of days riding to and from to work if it is good(15-20 minute drive to work each way).
