You Won’t Find a Buzzer-Beater More Incredible Than This One [Video]
New Rochelle’s Khalil Edney hit the most improbable buzzer-beater you’ll ever see to give his team a 61-60 victory in the New York Section 1 Class AA final. Down by two points with 2.9 seconds to play, New Rochelle’s inbound pass was intercepted by a Mount Vernon defender. Attempting to run out the clock, he tossed it to mid-court, where it was picked off by Edney. The desperation heave somehow found the bottom of the net, capping off the most bizarre, most awesome final game sequence I can remember.

March 3rd, 2013 at 4:16 PM
Wow.
March 3rd, 2013 at 4:16 PM
That was beyond amazing.

Clock ran out. No basket.
Nice first half Melo, but as usual it’s that pesky 4th quarter where you seem to never show up. Or the playoffs.

It was the mofucking inbounds passer!
/Raises glass to Khalil Edney

Liquor you think? I thought it was good, what’s amazing is the Mount Vernon player catches the inbound pass and flippantly throws it up and the New Rochelle player grabs it and chucks it in. Why not catch it and hold on? They would have to foul you no doubt or the clock would run out.
That Mount Vernon player should be tarred and feathered or at least banned from school. Lol. Poor kid. He’ll remember that next to e.

Mount Vernon’s biggest loss since Heavy D died.
(Too soon?)

I like how the third ref didn’t get the memo in reffing school to get the fuck out of the gym as quickly as possible once a controversial game ending decision has been made.

“the miracle basket” done by Newburgh Free Academy was better. It was against Mt. Vernon in the State Semi Finals. Newburgh would end up winning the State Final in 2009. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ha7z3fOxgjg

The Mt. Vernon people who were there said it was good. The backboard light went off a split second before the clock ran out, and that is what threw off the ref who initially waved it off. The last time they didn’t make it to States was by getting beat by a buzzer beater against Newburgh Academy.

The first ref got out of there like a bat out of hell. lol
March 3rd, 2013 at 5:27 PM
That shouldn’t have counted.

The last time Mt. Vernon was beaten at the County Center it was in the championship game against New Rochelle, who was led by this dude named Ray Rice.

wouldn’t have counted at mckale

FYI: major props to the announcers on the call, Keith Irizarry and Kevin Devaney, Jr.

Poor Mount Vernon: this was not the first time the school came up on the short end of a buzzer-beating stick: One of the announcers alludes to this wild finish four years ago against Newburgh:

Think I saw Prop Joe at the 2:17 mark.
March 3rd, 2013 at 10:18 PM
It’s Mt. Vernon vs New Ro in the County Center for the Section 1 Championship. That by itself makes it better by default.

The clock they used on the replay was behind. You can see the clock on the backboard already at zero while their clock had 0.1. Still think he got it off though.

His name had to be EDNEY didn’t it.
