I think for most if not all groups, the fanatical minorities from within cause them the most outrage from outsiders.

it does. while I don’t think that the person killing for money “is a victim of the system not of their own criminal behavior,” their crime is at least in part due to unusual circumstances, while committing a hate crime, in theory, reveals a clear intent to harm someone.

I wonder about this… a friend of a friend in college was gay, and I couldn’t stand the dude. Nothing to do with being gay, but he used to go around getting trashed and obnoxious and grabbing girls breasts because “it’s okay I’m gay”. I’m sure he had to deal with a lot of shit, but I found that incredibly annoying to be around.

I can tell the difference..but the action is the same regardless of reason. “Well you killed someone for money..in that case..eh..you get 8 years…you on the other hand..you monster..you killed someone based on their sexual preference..which is WAY WAY worser than what the first guy did because his reason is kinda good…brothas broke these days, holla nahmean? So you get 16 years.”
