She’s cute, not what I’d call a hottie, but I’m waiting for her to drop that toga in Spartacus, which by the way seems to be dwindling in writing this year. Not that it should be put up there with The Walking Dead or Justified, by no means, but I was expecting a little with this last installment.

Is it worth googling who these people are? Or will that not make a difference?
February 28th, 2013 at 8:28 AM
Pfft. Morrissey hates everything.
Hooray for silly fun in college.
RE: the lady throwing the table – the more I think about it, the more impressive it is. Those things can be awkward to heft, and she tossed it with ease. WMMA, give her a call, ya know?
She could take Rousey today, as long as Rousey doesn’t slap an arm bar on her.

Interesting link.
Reminded me of this bit from QI about the all the permutations of a card deck… (“One of a Kind” on the left hand side)
If every star in our galaxy had a trillion planets, each with a trillion people living on them, and each of these people has a trillion packs of cards and somehow they manage to make unique shuffles 1,000 times per second, and they’d been doing that since the Big Bang, they’d only just now be starting to repeat shuffles.
February 28th, 2013 at 8:35 AM
They are not watering it down anymore than they ever have but the quality of ingredients have changed. Since InBev took over the only focus has been cost reduction even at the sake of quality. Lagering/aging times have been reduced in some cases. Brews that would have been downgraded in the past to Busch have been pushed out as Bud or Bud Light. Different focus and character from when the Buschs had it.

This is true. I do enjoy some of his music, as as The Smith, but for fock’s sake, don’t take yourself too seriously. No else does
February 28th, 2013 at 8:41 AM
We used to drink a tonne of Löwenbräu tall boys, cheap (Canada cheap, not actually cheap), cool can, and tasted fine. At some point they just tasted different and eventually we read that damning article about cost reduction. Now whether we could actually taste the difference is moot, the idea that Löwenbräu sucks now is planted in our head.

Is TBL being hit by sequestration tomorrow? If so, it’s been fun knowing you guys.
February 28th, 2013 at 8:43 AM
I am floored that Bud and its ilk still make up %80 of the American beer market. With all the amazing beer available it just boggles my mind.
February 28th, 2013 at 8:44 AM
I wonder how many millions of dollars that Business Week article cost InBev?
They should have bribed the reporter.
February 28th, 2013 at 8:44 AM

And yet, people can count cards and win.
February 28th, 2013 at 8:45 AM
Anyone else get massive headaches the day after drinking Bud? I like Bud from an “image” standpoint, love the colors, what they project in advertisement, etc. even my Dad’s close friends when I grew up owned a local Bud distributor, but the stuff gives off some wicked headaches.
Though I do remember buying Bud pounders as a teenager, someone else bought them for us, for $14 and getting $2 back for returning the bottles.
It was a deal!
February 28th, 2013 at 8:47 AM
Duck Dynasty was a lot cooler when they were the Duck Commanders and actually duck hunted. I don’t blame them for getting theirs, and I know people that have met them around before and say they are all real nice, down to earth guys, but Duck Dynasty is fucking terrible.
February 28th, 2013 at 8:50 AM
Easier to get good craft beers in major metro areas rather than in rural areas. Plus the whole beer distribution system is in favor of the AB Inbev/MolsonCoors of the world.

February 28th, 2013 at 8:52 AM
You hit the nail on the head. Most people in the US grew up drinking Bud products (and still do for the most part)and the Busch family was very protective of putting out a quality product. InBev reminds me of the Tea Party. They want to cut all spending while expecting the product to remain virtually the same. They have an odd mix of European efficiency ideas with the authoritarian views of their Brazilian Management.
Their in-company promos are awkwardly funny though.

really? it’s pretty simple math for a lot of people, especially those that want to get drunk for cheap. a 6 pack of (insert craft beer name here) for $9.99, or a case of Natty Light for $1 more? pretty easy to see why companies like InBev control the market.

Would you want him as the heir apparent?
February 28th, 2013 at 9:01 AM
Whether you like the taste of their beer or not is up to you but their quality is top notch. Each week at every brewery they conduct taste tests comparing the local brews to the other breweries. They want Bud to taste the same wherever you are. And not just finished beer either. They’ll taste test the water, wort, pasturized and unpasturized.
The classic story of son (The IVth) not living up to father (the III). Plus, when Inbev up their offer to 70 dollars a share when we had been around 43 dollars a share for years, the board couldn’t turn it down.

I spent 3 days getting drunk with friends while staying in a Spanish Harlem hostel. Wake up, saunter to the super market and buy a 12 pack of Budweiser tall boys (cause ‘Murica) each morning. Stuff is terrible, drinking it quickly became a chore. Toronto FC just announced the Stadium has switched from Carlsberg to Budweiser, now we can drink a beer as shitty as the team.

February 28th, 2013 at 9:09 AM
Speaking of beer ownership, Toronto Pride could be the drunkest day of the year in this city and inevitably I drunkenly berate a gay guy for drinking Coors: “You shouldn’t drink…counter…counter…it’s against your bests interests, don’t support people who don’t support you.” It’s kind of a dick move.
February 28th, 2013 at 9:10 AM
InBev is the epitome of lean management though. A-B was a major donor of lots of charities and a lot of that went to the wayside. We had a learning center at our brewery where employees or employee family could come to learn new skills and that was shuttered quickly. Our cafeteria was closed because it wasn’t part of the beer making process. Offices were turned into closets because they preferred the open environment. Major culture changes took place. Lots of forced early retirements of employees and major cutbacks on contractors.

but here is where i learned the real econ….it is psychologically harder to spend 10 bucks on a sixer of great beer but if you want to get drunk, those great beers are three times the abv, so you drink three at 8.0 or 12 at 3.0 for the same buzz. that knowledge has made me cheerful. never liked bud products, my cheap beer is MHL or if I see it PBR bottles or Coors (not Light)

“A picture of my puppy” is a great euphemism, Petey.

In case everyone hasn’t moved on from this thread already…it isn’t really a huge revelation that Anheuser beers suck. At the same time, a couple of their selections are my go-to beers in times of mass consumption – most notably tailgating. When I’m going to be pounding beers for 6-8 hours I’m not going to pay much more than I have to, because after a few it’s not like you’re drinking for taste anymore.
So does anyone have any recommendations for a beer I can consume a lot of, that’s better than Anheuser beers, and is still relatively inexpensive?

August Busch IV is kind of a legend around St. Louis.
Yeah, as an “alleged” coked out paranoid. He keeps dozens (if not hundreds) of guns around his sprawling mansion, sometimes he even puts his guns into a pile. And he was present/in the home when his smoking hot girlfriend died of acute oxycodone intoxication a couple years back.
Guy to root for.
