It may have nothing to do with how much they like him, unfortunately. Definitely prefer Goldson to Whitner, but I think it’s all about the cap hold. Tough to commit 7-8 million on a safety, particular when you have some pending extensions (Kap, Crab) imminent.

The huge value in this cheaper players. Whoever stockpiles the most young talent under the new rookie deal will have a tremendous advantage until salaries are normalized across the league. RGIII and Alfred Morris probably the cheapest starting RB/QB combo in the NFL. Stockpiling cheap draft picks saves money while teams like the Rams and Lions have recent draft pick player salaries way more expensive than if the 49ers sign all 15 picks.

How many of these picks will be contributing members of the 49er’s roster in 3 years? How many will even be in the NFL? Those are the numbers I’d be most interested in hearing. I would assume that at some point you get diminishing returns with all these picks, right?
