Doug Collins Ranted a Bit After Embarrassing Loss to Orlando, Will He Be Coaching Philadelphia Next Season?
The 76ers were embarrassed at home Tuesday by the lowly Orlando Magic, 98-84, and Philadelphia coach Doug Collins was so pissed, he walked off the floor before the final buzzer (which he explains in the above video). The 76ers are 22-33, five games out of the last playoff spot, and I think the players have realized there will be no postseason. Even if they managed to sneak in, they’d lost every game to the Heat by 20.
Damien Wilkins and Jeremy Pargo led the 76ers in scoring with 14 points apiece, which says all you need to know.
This 11-minute video of a shell-shocked Collins – you can see the rage trying to escape his untucked shirt – is fun. I particularly liked the part where he talked about players not “sweating before the game.” Worth noting: He didn’t know why Andrew Bynum wasn’t on the bench.
As Bill Simmons noted, Collins has never made it to a 4th season coaching the same NBA team, and this is his 3rd year in Philly. [Video via CSN Philly]

hey, first time, long time…which NBA head coach has coached the greatest number of different teams? and how close is Collins to that number? I’ll hang up and listen.

im kinda stunned he got another job…has he ever been a good coach? he was HORRIBLE on TV.
February 27th, 2013 at 2:57 PM
Guess off the top of my head would be Lenny Wilkens.
February 27th, 2013 at 2:58 PM
not larry brown?
February 27th, 2013 at 3:00 PM
Its gotta be Brown. Fail on my part to forget him. I think he coached 8 or 9 teams. What is Collins at, 4?

Next Town Brown. Lenny was relatively stable. Bill Fitch is close.

great announcer. pretty bad head coach.
February 27th, 2013 at 3:03 PM
Brown has coached 9 NBA teams, and 5 college teams. Wikipedia told me this.
February 27th, 2013 at 3:03 PM
yeah, it’s gotta be Larry Brown
Brown – 9 (Nuggets, Nets, Spurs, Clippers, Pacers, Sixers, Pistons, Knicks), plus he coached KU and another ABA team
Wilkens – 6 (Sonics, Blazers, Cavs, Hawks, Raptors, Knicks)
February 27th, 2013 at 3:05 PM
Fitch “only” coached for five teams.

Collins isnt much of a coach but he brings the facts in this press conference.
NBA players are losers on the average.
February 27th, 2013 at 3:06 PM
Larry Brown did 9 teams. Lenny had 6 but that was over 32 years. Loughery 6. Karl, Fitzsimmons, Adelman with 5 each.
Mike Woodson – 2.

UCLA, Charlotte Bobcats, SMU (current job)
February 27th, 2013 at 3:08 PM
he was a head coach before taking the hawks gig?
February 27th, 2013 at 3:10 PM
OT / Looking at those names like Motta, Fitch, Loughery, Brown – I really need to go complete my 1990 NBA Hoops trading card set. I think I’m down to about 20 cards I need. Fortunately I have MJ.

Shut it down.
February 27th, 2013 at 3:12 PM
Bernie Bickerstaff is also at five if you include the games he coached for the Lakers this year. if not, four teams in thirteen seasons is still a fairly impressive rate.
spaced on SMU and forgot to include the Bobcats (typed “Hornets,” deleted it, and forgot to replace it). did not know he coached UCLA though.

there’s some talk about banning homeplate collisions. mike matheny is a proponent

Doug should be chewing out the GM who put together a mediocre team as well as Bynum for being an idiot

501 day trip to Mars planned. Man and woman. No way they both come back.

That’s a long time to be in that tiny space module. And your urine is recycled into your drinking water. Honestly, they should get somebody with Asperger’s or something. Might fare better.
February 27th, 2013 at 3:24 PM
Rode Kiki Vandeweghe to the title game against Louisville in ’80.
Fwiw the Sixers are getting killed for the Bynum trade, but it was a worthwhile risk. Their ceiling with Iguodala was very low, and they’re better off in the lottery than finishing 7th-8th every year. I’d kill them more for signing Nick Young than the Bynum trade.
February 27th, 2013 at 3:26 PM
I’d kill them more by throwing in Vucevic in that deal.

Rod Foster and Mike Sanders were pretty damn good, too. My 9-year old self attended that Final 4 in Indy.
he sucks, but he’s hardly the problem.
we have a winner.
And, finally…zero chance Collins coaches the team next year. At this rate, he may not last the season.
February 27th, 2013 at 3:50 PM
Collins feels hoops deeply
February 27th, 2013 at 4:49 PM
Doug Collins is a very good coach, he just can’t suffer losing for long. He needs players who have the talent he had and the will he has……
Where they got beat by Darrell Griffith, and the Money Earnin Mt. Vernon McCray Brothers.
February 27th, 2013 at 5:45 PM
fwiw he has played a not insignificant role in putting this roster together.
