Kenneth Faried Dunked Over Dwight Howard, Then Howard Blamed Kobe For a Slow Defensive Rotation
LA’s three-game win streak ended in Denver Monday, which wasn’t a surprise, since the Lakers won Sunday in Dallas and this team is far too old to be winning back-to-backs on the road against good teams. LA trailed by 13 at the break, then mounted a few rallies to make it interesting, but Dwight Howard missed 11 of 14 free throws and the Lakers couldn’t take advantage of the Nuggets playing without leading scorer Danilo Gallinari.
I loved this Kenneth Faried dunk over Dwight Howard for three reasons: 1) It shows that nearly 60 games into the season, LA still struggles with pick-and-roll rotations, 2) Dwight Howard still can’t jump (seriously, three years ago, when he was the best defender in the NBA, he swats this away), 3) Does anyone in the NBA consistently play harder than Faried? Probably not.

Ugh. Dwight needs to sack up. It was his own fault for being slow to get back to his spot.

I would trade Pau for Faried in a heartbeat.

Faried is like a young Barkly in that when he jumps up for a ball, his jump seems to be faster than everybody else.

I would really like to see the Nuggets make a deep run in the playoffs. Doubt it will happen, but they are a fun team to watch.

Maybe Dwight was hoping that Kobe would stay a second longer in the paint to cover for him since he has to show an extra second than typical on the pick and roll since its Steve Nash guarding the point.

No way Darrell. Dwight’s doing a half assed backpedal to get back in position. Kobe was following Lawson to top of key.

His “round mound of rebound” nickname and post-career chubbiness got younger fans to not fully appreciate how athletic he was. The guy was a freak of nature.

And really easy to make.

He motioned to Kobe to pick up Faried going weakside while he backpedalled looking ball side. Kobe stayed glued to Lawson instead of picking up Faried, who was unabated to the basket. Give up the man further away from the basket, especially Lawson since he isn’t a great perimeter shooter anyway. In the end, because of how quickly it took place it was more about very good execution by Denver than someone on the Lakers not hustling.

when the hell did this happen?

Then Howard Blamed Kobe For a Slow Defensive Rotation
Why was this the headline if it is not brought up in the post?

Interesting.

yeah Darrell is right here. at about the three second mark you can see Howard make a gesture asking Kobe to check Faried and Kobe doesn’t do anything. my guess is that Howard figured he already had to cover for Nash (and probably Meeks) and Kobe was in the best position to try and do something.
The Iggy cut looks like it caught them flat-footed too.

Remember when Portland had a chance and many (most) thought they’d take Faried w/ the 21st pick but instead took Nolan Smith? How’s that working for you Blazers? Well played.

Yep, I’m a Blazer fan….terrible.

First thing I think of every time I see a Faried highlight….Nolan fucking Smith.
I 100% blame that on Coach K being boys with Nate McMillan.
