Jim Boeheim Was Ornery Again, Told Reporters to “Get Their Pulitzer Somewhere Else”

Jim Boeheim is not happy as the Syracuse Orangemen have now dropped 3 of their last 5, and he’s not going to take it anymore from reporters. He got testy in regard to a question about guarding Davante Gardner, and then did not appreciate a question about leadership from Jeff Goodman of CBS.

Not included in the above video are the following quotes:

When there was a break in questions, Boeheim asked if there “any more coaches here? Want to ask another coaching question? I’d be happy to take it. I’ve only been doing this 37 years, I’m sure you’ve got more ideas of who we should play or we shouldn’t play or who should lead? What do I know?”
He finished the presser by telling reporters to “go get your Pulitzer someplace else.”

I didn’t think the questions were bad. Often, the problem I have is non-specific questions at press conference, and I think direct and specific questions about a particular choice of strategy or player decisions are what fans want to know about. Boeheim, though, has been doing this for a long time, and he can’t be troubled with them.

I agree with Whitlock’s point, but shit like this is why he annoys the fuck out of me. It was a god damn TV show. That’s it. Get over it.

I probably worked 100 basketball press conferences while in school. They’re awful. And for a coach who has been there that long, there isn’t a single question he hasn’t already fielded 25x, and he knows most of the people asking the questions only want him to say something so spectacularly bad that they can tweet about it, blog it, and then put it in the paper.

I’ve seen some coaches scream down people, slam chairs, upset supply tables, etc – go out a lockerroom door to the media area, do the media interview calmly, then come back and rage some more. Jim’s just choosing to be a real prick about this.

The reason he can’t answer the questions, is because he doesn’t know how. He also doesn’t know HOW to coach. He never has.
His M.O. is to get a lot of great players, play a bunch of games at home and in NYC in December, rise up the rankings, become mediocre in conference play, and then fizzle out or get out-coached come tournament time.
It’s a common theme in the human psyche. If you don’t know the answer, insult the person who asked you the question.
