I had a bunch of friends that were PDT’s when I was in school, they were all pretty cool, but I heard some nasty shit they did to pledges.

my favorite story to tell, a lot like charlie describing “vietnam,” is i had a senior take the industrial sized mayonaise jug from the kitchen and pump the thing into my mouth a good ten times. he says you can either swallow that or spit it onto my friends face who was standing right next to me. with tears in my eyes cause i was basically gagging on processed mayo, my friend looks over and, after an audible sigh, says, “just do it man.” so i did it. good times with vaguely homoerotic hazing.

When I was in school, my team had a ritual for all the freshman before spring seasons started. A jug of rum was given to the freshman and it had to be completely consumed. Then our heads were shaven. We got busted my junior year and the team was almost dissolved. Worth noting any kid that didn’t want to shave their head didn’t have to. The drinking was pretty mandatory though.

It’s not necessarily instant friends though. There were and still are brothers that I can’t stand. But I wouldn’t have met most of my closest friends (male and female) had I not been Greek.

Like I said earlier, it’s not for everyone, but it was definitely for me.

You would think canceling an entire season would be severe enough, but the school seems prepared to keep going into the Fall.

A D3 soccer “spring season” = practices and a few friendlies. Canceling it is fairly meaningless, as I’m sure the coaches will still send out a workout packet and make sure the captains are organizing some practices.

Vez, not all frats are the same. Mine was much more welcoming to pledges though there was still hazing it was mostly psychological and fucking around with us and pledges not getting the same privileges as brothers. Frats can vary pretty greatly even from chapter to chapter. So it’s not all Animal House but it’s not all Revenge of the Nerds either.

i do understand the benefit of instant friends and postgrad connections, and i realize the bad name greeks have from bad apples. but the rules thing remains, even if the hazing is not humiliating

Never understood hazing of sexual nature. Like dudes sticking foreign objects up other dude’s anus. You would think someone in middle of sticking things up people’s butt would realize that it’s just wrong and they shouldn’t be doing it.

I don’t either. Freud would have a field day with shit like that.

Our hazing was more like let’s blindfold all the pledges and drive them in cars in the middle of January to a field near Corsicana and let them find their way back to campus on their own.
