LeBron Leaving Miami to Play in Cleveland with Kyrie Irving in 2014? The Media Can’t Stop Writing About It
LeBron and Kyrie Irving starring on the Cleveland Cavaliers in October 2014. How does that sound?
As the world knows, LeBron could opt-out of his Heat deal after next season.
Forget his ugly exit from Cleveland two summers ago. Jim Gray, the Decision, fans burning his jersey, the doofus owner penning that silly letter – that’s ancient history. (Well, except for the clowns who still try to get LeBron-related license plates.)
LeBron has silenced his critics – two trips to the Finals, one ring, Olympics Gold – and there’s no question he’s starting to look like one of the best players the league has ever seen.
But Russell never left Boston. Magic never left the Lakers. Larry only played for the Celtics. Jordan played for the Wizards very late in his career, but nobody remembers those years.
How LeBron suiting up for the Cavs, then Heat, then Cavs again? The Miami media won’t let this idea go, especially with LeBron in Cleveland this weekend:
James himself opened the door to this topic one year ago while back in Cleveland for a game, when asked about possibly returning to the Cavaliers some day. He said, “I think it would be great. It would be fun to play in front of these fans again. I don’t know what the future holds, but I don’t want to take that [option] out.”
A day later he offered an addendum, the last three words of which had to imbed themselves under Heat fans’ skin like a painful sliver: “The fans of Miami shouldn’t be worried about anything at this point.”
Also in the past year, Cleveland drafted point guard Kyrie Irving, a superstar in the making, and James during the recent All-Star Weekend in Houston gushed about Irving in a way that only reintroduced the return-to-Cleveland speculation.“It was awesome to play with Kyrie,” James said. “He’s going to be unbelievable.”
With the Lakers intent on backing up the brinks for Dwight Howard, and no other Top 5 star potentially on the move this year or next – I’m excluding Gasol and CP3 and for now, Kevin Love – this will be the NBA’s biggest story over the next 16 months. Everybody loves LeBron!

Even more impressive given he had to do it in K’s system that almost single handedly ruined Kyrie Irving’s career.
February 22nd, 2013 at 12:47 PM
(checks Facebook and Twitter feeds)
nope, unfortunately he hasn’t.
I do like how when Miami won the title last year, there were a lot of people going, “Ugh, of course NBA and the fucking refs give LeBron a title.” 2012 became the year LeBron haters officially became more annoying than LeBron himself.
February 22nd, 2013 at 12:47 PM
Wouldn’t it be more likely that Kyrie would leave CLE and go to Miami when his deal is up and Bosh and Wade are off of the books?
February 22nd, 2013 at 12:49 PM
We must have different feeds. Everything I see on Twitter is nothing but awe and amazement re: LeBron.
February 22nd, 2013 at 12:50 PM
It is?
He has?
February 22nd, 2013 at 12:51 PM
Let’s put it this way: there’s zero rational or intelligent basis for critiquing his performance at this point.
February 22nd, 2013 at 12:52 PM
i don’t know anyone that is really critical of him anymore, besides jordan and kobe
February 22nd, 2013 at 12:53 PM
why in 98/99 did the Spurs get hazed for winning a shorten season, but this group of Dbags are vindicated now after winning one? Cant wait for another decision from GOD James. Decisions, decisions. I can’t decide if I hate howard or lebron more.
February 22nd, 2013 at 12:54 PM
Like I said
February 22nd, 2013 at 12:55 PM
to be fair, I know a lot of Boston fans, and rationality is not exactly one of their strong suits.

Howard. LeBron learned his lesson after he quit mid-game against Celtics one time. Howard seems to do that every other night at this point. Gonna be great when ATL offers him the moon next year. If he accepts, they’re screwed as he’s a whiny bitch. If he declines, the city will be all depressed and shit.

I also don’t really know of anyone other than Bill Simmons who holds the lockout over the heads of the ’99 Spurs, and Bill Simmons is not to be taken seriously about anything.
February 22nd, 2013 at 12:58 PM
90% of Heat fans would just become Cleveland fans (again).
February 22nd, 2013 at 12:58 PM
There was some NBA player that came out and said the Heat winning the title didn’t count because of the shortened season.
Because you know, the NBA is renowned for player taking the regular season seriously and not coasting until the playoffs.
February 22nd, 2013 at 12:59 PM
Any LeBron/Simmons hate is baffling to me. I can understand not liking a guy or his style, but hatred on success is just odd.

Differnces between ’99 Spurs and ’12 Heat:
- The ’98 Bulls were blown up
- They played an 8 seed in the finals.
If i recall it was Phil who started the “asterisk” talk, maybe because it was the only year between ’96 and ’02 that he didnt win the title.

Tennessee fan doesn’t understand something relating to success, shocking video at eleven.

How depressed do you think JJ Redick is? Could’ve been with a dominant team in a cool town, playing with Parker, Timmy and Pops. That lineup would’ve been great to watch
February 22nd, 2013 at 1:01 PM
I can’t decide which I would find funnier: CLE losing Kyrie to Miami to play with LeBron, or LeBron going back to CLE and seeing Miami “fans” flip out.
February 22nd, 2013 at 1:01 PM
Everyone ‘knew’ Miami wouldn’t be LeBron’s destination until it became his destination. Nobody will know until he decides next time. Until then, he gains little — from basketball, business or commentary standpoints — by talking about it.

This one is already prepared for the cold Cleveland winters.
February 22nd, 2013 at 1:01 PM
Wouldn’t at all be surprised if this was true.

But Russell never left Boston. Magic never left the Lakers. Larry only played for the Celtics. Oscar Robertson only played for the Royals. Kareem only played for the Bucks. Moses only played for the Rockets. Wilt only played for the Warriors. Shaq only played for the Magic. Jordan played for the Wizards very late in his career, but nobody remembers those years.
I was starting to write out something like this earlier but didn’t want to put forth the effort. So I’ll just say “agree with this” instead.

I knew what it was before I clicked. That photo slays me.

This is no place for coherent/intelligent thoughts such as this
February 22nd, 2013 at 1:14 PM
WTF? Who wears boots like that? Heavens to Mergatroid!
February 22nd, 2013 at 1:15 PM
whatever
I don’t think there is any chance he comes back, then again i never though he would leave when he did (after one more contract is when I thought he would go if he never won a title).
February 22nd, 2013 at 1:16 PM
I don’t think there is any chance he comes back
i do. i called it last year.
February 22nd, 2013 at 1:17 PM
Im not saying LBJ isnt a great player, or the best in the league currently. I am saying I dislike him because he’s a DBAG, as is that team. He quit on his last team, during the playoffs and then bailed on the city that built everything around him. That’s a flawed thing for a city, but you never expect the prodigal son to bail on you in the way he did. I’m not a huge NBA guy, but didn’t he want shaq, jameson, and the the Cavs for there. They did what they could to give him he asked for. It’s his fault he couldn’y lurer someone to that city.
Now before someone says “oh oh oh you love kobe and he quit”. Yes he did, but still made plays that game against the suns. He did refuse to shoot the ball, but plays were still made. He also had rings by that time, he didnt leave the team bail on the city that built everything around him, and then he proceeded to win rings after.
*I’m at work rambling here so this may or may not be completely coherent. But the jist should come across.

Remember when Lebron refused to play for a certain team going into the draft? Wait, no, that was Kobe.
February 22nd, 2013 at 1:22 PM
I don’t particularly care for LeBron one way or the other, but he is amazing to watch. When he retires, a lot of people who hate him now will regret not appreciating his greatness while it was happening.
But I fucking despised Simmons long before Grantland and NBA Countdown and whatever else he does for them now.
February 22nd, 2013 at 1:23 PM
Pretty smart decision as it turned out.
February 22nd, 2013 at 1:32 PM
Lebron was Clevelands savior. There was no chance he wasnt going there pre-draft. If the raptors had the pick that year you may have heard a different tune pre-draft from his camp.
Im from Pittsburgh – I know how “random” draft pick wins are, as we just so happened to get Sid from “the luck of the draw” just when the team was flirting with moving.
February 22nd, 2013 at 1:35 PM
I used to hate LeBron in large part because I felt like he wasn’t even coming close to maximizing his potential. Now? Now he’s fucking awesome to watch. I’ll hate him again if the Bulls play the Heat in the playoffs, but come on. This season from him is the best basketball we’ve watched since MJ.
February 22nd, 2013 at 1:35 PM
The criticism stemmed from all the Jordan/Magic/Kobe comparisons that started right off the bat when he was drafted. This is not really his fault, although he did bask in that and played it up. He was built up into something he wasn’t initially, and that lack of success he had in Cleveland and then especially the move to Miami led to the enormous backlash you see now.
He’s the best player in the league and wil go down as one of the best ever, but I don’t think he can fully recover from that backlash with regards to public perception.
February 22nd, 2013 at 1:36 PM
/although, I did love Kobe D-ing Bron up in the ASG and getting those two blocks. I’ll always favor Kobe over LeBron without question.
February 22nd, 2013 at 1:37 PM
If what went down what everyone said went down before the game where LeBron seemed to quit against the Celtics, then I’d say it would be pretty damn hard not to have your mind blown. But, I’d also say to the people who like to hold on to that game as the crutch of their LeBron hate that wasn’t the last game of the series. He came back in the next game, which they lost, and put forth his usual strong effort. Let it go. ……In regards to Bill Simmons, I don’t have any love for him, but that was a tremendous job he did with the Bill Russell interview.
February 22nd, 2013 at 1:39 PM
What are you referring to?
February 22nd, 2013 at 1:41 PM
Irving only played 8 games at Duke. His big toe ended his Duke career.
February 22nd, 2013 at 1:43 PM
if I’m not mistaken, the rumors that Delonte West was sleeping with LeBron’s mom.
February 22nd, 2013 at 1:49 PM
I know, Jason argued last year that Irving suffered at Duke because he had to play in K’s system. It was literally one of the stupidest points he ever made.
February 22nd, 2013 at 1:52 PM
Gotcha, I obviously missed that TBL gem reference.
Yes that is a very stupid point.

Agreed sports radio people are the lowest of the low.
February 22nd, 2013 at 2:01 PM
As a Heat fan I can say for certain that if LeBron leaves to Cleveland in 2 years I will wish him the best and thank him for the memories and hopefully the 3 titles.

Still wear my Bron Cavs shirt to the gym sometimes. Starting to get a little funky, wish I could get a new one. I mean I have a Miami one, but its not the same.
I’m not sure a human exists that managed to escape Cleveland and then returned on their own free will.
February 22nd, 2013 at 2:35 PM
Exactly why I think the whole LBJ back to Cleveland thing is a bunch of bullshit.
February 22nd, 2013 at 3:09 PM
I did!
