Travis Ford, the Oklahoma State Basketball Coach, Was in the 1997 Marlon Wayans / Kadeem Hardison Movie, The 6th Man
Travis Ford, the head coach of the Oklahoma State Cowboys, appeared in the 1997 Marlon Wayans movie, The 6th Man. Ford played Danny O’Grady, a short, red-headed college basketball player. In the scene above, Ford wants to slap Marlon Wayans, dunks a basketball with the help of a ghost and gets called “Opie.”
After his star-making performance in The 6th Man, Ford walked away from acting to the chagrin of casting directors everywhere. From there he coached at Campbellsville, Eastern Kentucky and UMass before landing at OK State in 2008. You can own a copy of The 6th Man on DVD for $27.29.

Wish he had been miked up so we could hear just how he drew up that final play in regulation…do college coaches tell the player exactly to hold the ball until there’s 5 seconds left and they’re still 28 feet from the basket or is that all improvised? So many games with teams not even giving themselves a real chance to win it
Kansas to their credit ran offense at the end of the first overtime, shame the gods didn’t reward them with a score

I posted this last night. Worth doing again. http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/8959324/college-basketball-scoring-problem-west-liberty-university-coach-jim-crutchfield
I agree with you, Butters. That drives me crazy. This holding for the last shot, even when it isn’t the best possible shot, is dumb.

Ford was a great actor, even in his playing days. He was able to convince the refs that he was Rodrick Rhodes and shot his free throws for him.

the end of reg and both OTs were painful. osu’s shot selection/shot-clock mgmt was crap as was KU’s execution
but that crossover was silly

I was beaming with pride when Coach Larranaga made sure Miami went 2 for 1 at the end of the Virginia game. To your point though, the scenario last night with OK St plauged the tournament last year and led to no buzzer beaters and a plethora of horrendous final possessions.

Just seems like teams are waiting for it too meaning deviation from the norm should have a higher rate of success, KU completely stonewalled that final attempt before the end of regulation
Also liked the color analyst saying OkSU’s final shot was a good look instead of it being a contested turnaround from 20 feet out with 3 seconds still left on the clock…for all the overcoaching that seems to happen late in games teams still look confused far too often, might be better to just let them play

It seems the only play teams run is the high pick and roll and every team knows that if you trap the ball-handler and force him to make a decision, it’s game over. It really does boggle the mind.

I always hated him.

27 bucks for this movie? Terrible. You’re better off taking Amazon’s suggestion and getting the combo pack of 6th Man/Space Jam/Cool Runnings for $40.

Hmmmmm. The Heat/Goodfellas combo pack for $5 at Walmart or the 6th Man/Space Jam/Cool Runnings combo pack for $40? Tough decision.
