Tim Tebow Cancels Appearance at Controversial Dallas Megachurch
Tim Tebow was slated to speak at the controversial Dallas Megachurch on April 28th, but as soon as the news hit the web late last week, Tebow was hammered for getting in bed with a Pastor who has spoken out against homosexuality and equated Islam with pedophilia.
Turns out Tebow may have had no clue about the Pastor, Robert Jeffress. The Jets backup QB just tweeted out that he’s no longer making that appearance.
While I was looking forward to sharing a message of hope and Christ’s unconditional love with the faithful members of the historic…

Now we can all go back to focusing on whether or not the Jets will trade Tebow (unlikely) or cut him (likely).

Sad
February 21st, 2013 at 10:23 AM
A pastor at a southern baptist megachurch that opposes same sex marriage and uses Mohammed’s 9 year old wife as an example of the problems with Islam? Shocking stuff.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:26 AM
Also, for those opposed, it sounds like the congregation could use Tebow’s message of faith, hope, and love, but God forbid we send a famous athlete in to preach that message.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:27 AM
Hilarious. I’m amazed at how awful many highly-paid PR firms are.
Tebow- “I got this offer to speak at some church.”
PR idiot- “Sure…it’s a southern baptist church…what could the leader honestly have said that would hurt your brand. I’m not even going to google his name. Cash that check, brah.”
February 21st, 2013 at 10:27 AM
Sorry, had to, couldn’t help it
February 21st, 2013 at 10:29 AM
I’m sure they get plenty of uplifting messages every Sunday in between the gay-bashing, other organized religion-bashing and Obama-bashing. Or perhaps those are the uplifting messages?
February 21st, 2013 at 10:30 AM
Also news, Tebow chooses to listen to PR team over his call to Christ. Not really surprising.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:30 AM
seems like Timmy still wants that snow ball in hell’s chance of playing in NFL next year. Would not get it if he did the appearance.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:31 AM
a lotta ins, a lotta outs, a lotta what-have-yous….
February 21st, 2013 at 10:32 AM
I’m guessing 99% of the sermons are perfectly acceptable/respectable. I’m also guessing that church is responsible for donating millions and millions of dollars to charity, so I don’t really have a problem with them. I’ll just choose not to go there when I’m in Dallas.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:33 AM
this is the official story, but I heard that the church had seen a few of his practice speeches, and he wasn’t good, so they weren’t going to let him talk.
He claims he’s a good “during service” performer
February 21st, 2013 at 10:33 AM
What in God’s holy name are you blathering about?
February 21st, 2013 at 10:33 AM
I mean uh… hasn’t that ever occurred to you, man? Sir?
February 21st, 2013 at 10:34 AM
Now we can all go back to focusing on how Tebow doesn’t matter at all, ever.
// fixed
February 21st, 2013 at 10:34 AM
Fantastic.

If the charity comes with stipulations that are tied to believing the crazy shit SBs believe, I’ll debate the use of the word charity.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:37 AM
You’re right, just like guys that commit crimes/DUI’s are never allowed back in the NFL, a speech would ruin his career
February 21st, 2013 at 10:38 AM
Correct. Guys in NFL locker rooms would never stand for anti-homosexual rheotric in particular.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:38 AM
That’s a good response to very lazy stereotyping.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:39 AM
Crazy shit like that they oppose same sex marriage? Like the roughly 50% of Americans who believe the same?
February 21st, 2013 at 10:40 AM
a speech would ruin his career
If you can play well, yeah you can do pretty much get away with that.
But if you suck at your posistion, and bring stupid media coverage plus now protests from anti-hat groups due to said media coverage, yeah good luck with that.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:40 AM
Well, since this church seems to be fully in line with POTUS church of choice, I don’t see how you’d have a problem with it. Other than, you know, your hypocrisy.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:40 AM
So I had a twitter exchange with Daisy Fuentes last night, seens like she can be a holy bitch. Nothing quite as titillating as arguing about stupid subjects with D list celebs. Looks like ole Mullet has finally arrived.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:41 AM
Yes. This argument is so ridiculous. “50% [I believe it's less now] think they shouldn’t be able to marry!” Really glad we didn’t give a fuck about polls when allowing blacks or women to vote.
Do you live in the South? If you did, you would know it’s not lazy. It’s accurate.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:41 AM
Tebow should speak at Reverend Wright’s church instead.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:42 AM
Not a hypocrite at all. The one thing I don’t like about Obama is how religious he is.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:42 AM
NFL has shown it doesn’t care what you do. But your point of “if you’re good” stands here, so looks like we’re all done.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:43 AM
Tebow should speak at Reverend Wright’s church instead.
in blackface. And blame whitey for all of his problems. And do a bunch of rhyming sermonizing.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:43 AM
I saw that. She quoted Cobain when he quote Neil Young, right?
February 21st, 2013 at 10:43 AM
Exactly right. Talent always gets a 3rd, 4th or 5th chance.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:44 AM
I’d place the blame with Josh McDaniels here…people would have already forgotten about this guy had NFL teams been wise to him being terrible at football before the draft
February 21st, 2013 at 10:45 AM
I’d go with murdering Americans without due process before religion, but whatever floats your boat.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:45 AM
Voting isn’t tied to Judeo-Christian religious rituals.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:45 AM
So I had a twitter exchange with Daisy Fuentes last night
My most famous twitter exchange was with Steve Martin.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:45 AM
I thought we determined Texas isn’t in the South.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:46 AM
I’d pay $500 for that PPV.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:47 AM
Daisy Fuentes can get it
February 21st, 2013 at 10:48 AM
Yup. My comment did contain the word “dummy” in it, but it really was intended more for Michael Necci (is he on TBL?), but it was also for her a little bit. Thought about calling her a spread eagle whore, but that wouldn’t be very responsible.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:48 AM
Daisy Fuentes, back on MTV House of Style, pure smoke there.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:48 AM
So I had a twitter exchange with Daisy Fuentes last night, seens like she can be a holy bitch. Nothing quite as titillating as arguing about stupid subjects with D list celebs. Looks like ole Mullet has finally arrived.
I feel special for even getting to put this comment in italics.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:49 AM
This is tough for me. I mean, the American was a terrorist who needed to be killed, so that part I’m okay with. But I can see where some crazy man who, say, forgot what day it is (cough***Reagan***cough) could in fact do terrible things with this power. I also think the drone wars are much better for us than the Bush wars of land invasions. Personally I think the Drone Wars are fascinating.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:49 AM
I thought we determined Texas isn’t in the South.
Texas is big. Different parts of Texas reflect the different regions (and nations) it abuts. So Texas is part South, part lower Midwest, part Mexico. And then there’s Austin.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:50 AM
I’d go with murdering Americans without due process before religion, but whatever floats your boat.
has he actually murdered americans, or has he just said he’s got the right to murder americans? I know he hired those assassins to kill those consulate people, but that’s not actually him controlling the drone strike, that’s him using his Muslim contacts to get a job done.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:50 AM
Not sure why Tebow would cancel this appearance. These folks are going to be his base as his moves on from his NFL career, be it political or starting his own megachurch. Might as well embrace the anti-gay rights and islamic haters now.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:50 AM
Related, The Americans is just turning into a great show. Hopefully they can keep it up
February 21st, 2013 at 10:52 AM
Yep. And his 16 year old American kid, too.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:53 AM
He’s going to make lots and lots of money speaking to people like Jeffress (sp?). I think he’ll be on Gameday within 3 years, leading a church within 10 and in politics within 20.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:53 AM
I thought we determined Texas isn’t in the South.
East Texas (ending at about Tyler) down to Houston is the Deep South. Dallas is kinda standalone urban hellscape with severe sprawl. The panhandle is the midwest. West Texas is in the west.
South Texas, south of San Antonio is basically North Mexico. And Austin is one huge piece of concrete now.
Oh, and Corpus Christi is a roach motel.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:54 AM
Tebow >>>>>>>> Howard

I endorse this description.

oh, when i asked about Americans I meant white people.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:55 AM
Howard is terrible. Just truly awful. He also seems like the world’s biggest asshole.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:56 AM
We should give Texas back
February 21st, 2013 at 10:56 AM
Like, what terrible things did Reagan do in office?
February 21st, 2013 at 10:56 AM
Yeah…dude was asking for it. The 16-year-old son part seems like a massive fuck up, though.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:57 AM
Again, dude was asking for it.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:57 AM
I agree with all of this.
But you can go west of Tyler for a little while and still be in the “Deep South”
/ grew up in Tyler
February 21st, 2013 at 10:59 AM

Ritty, did you ever go to the Village Bakery there? My grandparents owned it for about 30 years.
February 21st, 2013 at 10:59 AM
Gotta crack a few eggs to make an omelette
February 21st, 2013 at 10:59 AM

fucker ate all the jellybeans.
But you can go west of Tyler for a little while and still be in the “Deep South”
I was initially going to say Mesquite, which is really the correcter answer, but I didn’t feel like having to argue, since mesquite is such a bullshit “western” town.
February 21st, 2013 at 11:00 AM
If you ask 2013 Reps, he raised taxes in 6/8 years, was for amnesty for illegal immigrants and blew the deficit up.
February 21st, 2013 at 11:03 AM
Correct answer is the War on Drugs and Iran-Contra, but I dont want to get interrupt revisionist history
February 21st, 2013 at 11:04 AM
I know exactly what it is, but don’t recall every going in there. Cool that your grandparents owned it.
I miss Tyler as a matter of fact.
February 21st, 2013 at 11:05 AM
revisionist history
if we go forward into the future, you’ll find revisionist historians saying that Tim Tebow was never really given a chance to succeed on the NFL level. And then they’ll tell you how he won a playoff game.
February 21st, 2013 at 11:06 AM
Had a Presidential History class at Auburn with a professor that was way, way left. We studied JFK, LBJ, Carter, Reagan, and Clinton. Took all those presidents seriously, except for Reagan. When it was time to study him, we basically watched an old PBS special/hit-piece that only focused on how jovial and “simple” Reagan was. They talked for 10 minutes about his love for jelly beans.
February 21st, 2013 at 11:09 AM
The disconnect between modern Reps’ view of Reagan and the reality of what he did and didn’t do amazes me.
February 21st, 2013 at 11:13 AM
we basically watched an old PBS special/hit-piece that only focused on how jovial and “simple” Reagan was.
I’ve read in a million places that he was very demented in his second term. About how he only wanted to watch TV.
I voted for Mondale in grade 6, I remember that.
February 21st, 2013 at 11:15 AM
This is one of those things no one likes to talk about. Dude was fucked his last 2 years in office.
February 21st, 2013 at 11:19 AM

Wow. That’s actually pretty perfect.
I could bitch about Austin. That place will be the first to fall when it all goes down. The infrastructure in that city is so far behind what the population is. Sixth Street is cool and whatever, but all the other bullshit is bad.
February 21st, 2013 at 11:19 AM
Kind of like how the disconnect between what Obama says and what he does completely flies over the head of modern Dems? How about we leave it at this – the majority of people are stupid. Once you lump the smart ones in with “modern Reps” or “modern Dems” you dumb everything down and avoid legitimate argument all together.
Yeah, I know he struggled with some of that. I’ve read his letters. I think, to oppose Husker’s narrow-mindedness, he had a sharper intellect than some people give him credit for, but he certainly isn’t the absolute gold standard.
February 21st, 2013 at 11:26 AM
I just like pointing out that Reagan would be primary’d in today’s political climate. I find that priceless.
February 21st, 2013 at 11:30 AM
i’m mostly left, but i approve of so-called right-wing practices, like killing bad guys w/o due process. like mullet typed, you can’t make an omelette w/o breaking some eggs. if we had to do everything ethically nothing would ever get done
otherwise, we should assume that POTUS’s that kill enemies with questionable practices just fucking enjoy killing people
February 21st, 2013 at 11:42 AM
No way. He has the speech patterns of a 6-year-old. He should never be on tv.

solid work. i would add that the panhandle is not like the midwest. too many good looking sluts that arent fat, and no horrid accent.

I’m not sure this is a valid reason for anybody not succeeding in politics. He sounds dumb can easily be spun into “the media elites are attackin’ him ’cause he sounds like us!”
February 21st, 2013 at 12:20 PM
sigh. you;re probably right stark. a guy can dream of a population that demands more can’t he?
