St. Louis University Radio Announcer Confronted by Referee Live On the Air After Criticizing a Call

Bob Ramsey is the voice of the St. Louis University Billikens on WXOS, ESPN’s St. Louis radio affiliate.

Late in the second half of Tuesday night’s impressive St. Louis win over #24 VCU, Ramsey voiced his displeasure with a call against Dwayne Evans, calling it “cheap.” The referee who made the call was within earshot and immediately approached the broadcaster.

Ramsey shut him down with the old talk to the hand move. He then told his audience this was 101′s broadcast and they weren’t going to have that here. [@jbacott]

Ramsey is hilariously and purposely awkward and never cares what people think of him. During radio shows he will let an awkward silence hang. During a game broadcast, he will scream and shout throughout every possibly exciting play.

Geez, I hate referees.

Was on press row for an AU bball game once. Some poor kid was working for the TV station calling the game (probably Jefferson Pilot or some such back then) and a producer jokingly said to stall the refs for another 10 seconds while they come back from commercial as there was some miscommunication. Kid on press row in charge of media timeouts calls the ref over as he was about to head to midcourt for the tip. THe ref starts screaming at this kid, yelling at him that he was going to give the bench a technical foul before the game even started. Like, seriously, you’re a referee. We’re gonna get along fine without you so such the hell up.
