Ballin’: Michael Kidd Gilchrist Dunked on Greg Monroe [Video]
Charlotte 99, Detroit 105: Uninteresting battle of lottery-bound teams became relevant when rookie Michael Kidd-Gilchrist dunked on Greg Monroe. Dunks are neat.
Houston 122, Oklahoma City 119: James Harden lit up his former teammates for 46 points (on 19 shots!), eight rebounds and six assists, and Jeremy Lin added 29 as the Rockets dealt the Thunder their third loss in a row. Harden was 7-of-8 from deep. The Thunder had five players in double figures, but Durant missed nine of 13 shots (he did have a triple double: 16-12-11), and Westbrook (28-10-8) committed seven turnovers.
Indiana 125, New York 91: The Knicks gave up 74 points in the first half, trailed by 30 at the break, and JR Smith got ejected. With the Nets winning, New York’s lead in the Atlantic is down to one game. So much for that hot start, right?
Dallas 111, Orlando 96: The lottery-bound Mavs won their second straight to inch within five games of .500. How prophetic of me to give them the “lottery-bound” label in the offseason, right? One of my best calls last summer, for sure.
Miami 103, Atlanta 90: If this was Josh Smith’s last game in a Hawks uniform, it was typical of his tenure in the ATL – erratic shooting (0-4 from deep) and a little bit of everything (10 points, nine assists, nine rebounds, five turnovers).

Probs cancelled out by Austin Rivers fellating.

Please let this be a 1st round matchup.

Kyrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeee. 20 in the 4th.

Jose, part of me wants that so that I can see some more Thunder games in Houston but the Rockets will be a tough out. Most likely, it won’t happen. Houston will get the 5th or 6th seed and face the Nuggets or Clips in Round 1. The Warriors and Jazz will fade down the stretch.
February 21st, 2013 at 11:10 AM
That Knicks result was dispiriting. Pacers, however, didn’t let up. Good for them.
Houston’s fun to watch. Harden won’t be MVP, but the Rockets would be an also-ran without him.

I dunno, they have a completely different roster than they expected to have in August, and T-Rob hasn’t exactly been great in Sac-town. Lin and Harden are a more cohesive backcourt than they were a couple months ago, but there’s still a lot of basketball to be played.

sad but true truth about your prognosticating skills. That’s about as good as you can do.

Certainly the better of the #1 picks in action last night. Davis still looks lost out there.
February 21st, 2013 at 11:18 AM
I’m not sure he isn’t the 2nd best PG in the league right now behind Chris Paul.
Houston just seems like a player away from having a really interesting team. Lin and Harden seem to be meshing a lot better as of late as well.

Really looking forward to a MIA-IND Eastern Conference Final.

OKC needs to make a trade. Fuck trying to avoid the luxury line.

Really looking forward to a MIA-IND Eastern Conference Final.
is indy going to trarde granger?
heard a rumor that the cavs offered Luke Walton, Boobie Gibson, and a 1st rounder (not sure which first rounder) for Granger.
February 21st, 2013 at 11:32 AM
Well Rose was better. We’ll have to see, but I’d take him over every other PG not named Paul right now.
February 21st, 2013 at 11:36 AM
100% yes

Gerald Green has been awful so they could probably use his scoring off the bench. Not sure what they could get, someone suggested sending him to UT for Millsap and Hayward.
February 21st, 2013 at 11:39 AM
I still give it to Tony Parker. His play has earned him a place in the MVP conversation*.
*That conversation goes something like “who is 3rd, well behind Lebron in the top spot and Durant in the 2nd spot?”
February 21st, 2013 at 11:40 AM
I was excited to see they were interested in Gortat but not at the price of taking on Perkins. Suns need to take on expiring deals for Gortat. Certainly not more years.
February 21st, 2013 at 11:44 AM
Pacers completely outclassed the Knicks last night. Stephenson has really improved. The way he exposed Kidd by blowing by him time after time was sad to see. George played good individual defense on Melo last night. He contested every shot. JR Smith has disappeared. STAT has no explosion left. This road trip will tell a big part in how the rest of this season goes.
February 21st, 2013 at 11:51 AM
Parker is the only other guy in the convo. Discussion at work today involved this hypo: if the NBA were re-distributing players at the end of the season, and a draft was held, Lebron and Durant would obviously be #1 and #2. Who gets picked #3? I would take Kyrie there, by the slightest over Paul.
February 21st, 2013 at 12:00 PM
Hard to argue against that. I wonder how high Harden goes in this hypothetical draft? Top 8? He is only 23.
February 21st, 2013 at 12:03 PM
I would have him at #5.
February 21st, 2013 at 12:11 PM
After Paul, things get murky. I think I would take Harden at #5 but the next five is tricky.
February 21st, 2013 at 12:16 PM
If we were re-distributing Big Lead Sports staff members at the end of the blogging season, where would you pick Fink?
February 21st, 2013 at 12:33 PM
Rose would be the wild card, and Love too. Injury situation makes them hard to pinpoint where to take them. I think I’d have George, Griffin, & Westbrook in there.
February 21st, 2013 at 12:37 PM
For all his overall horribleness Dwight is probably in there.
February 21st, 2013 at 12:39 PM
Doesn’t matter. Ronny is the MVP
February 21st, 2013 at 12:45 PM
OKC needs a trade. I still think they make it out of West but will get beaten by the Heat in. 5 again. If they are not willing to ever make a trade and Presti-Bennett are going to be tightasses about the luxury tax, Durant and Westbrook=Malone and Stockton
February 21st, 2013 at 12:54 PM
If Anthony is going to be dinged for having many first round exits, Love needs to be dinged for not making the Playoffs at all. He’s not on the list.
February 21st, 2013 at 12:58 PM
Ha
..no kobe?
February 21st, 2013 at 1:34 PM
I would take him late first round maybe. He’s only got 2-3 years left, and they won’t all even be at his current level of play.
February 21st, 2013 at 1:36 PM
Are we both talking about the 24 year old Kevin Love? Yea, he’s on the list.
February 21st, 2013 at 1:56 PM
We’re talking about the 0 postseason appearances Love. Decent scorer, very good rebounder. Has not carried a team beyond 82 games once in his career.
February 21st, 2013 at 2:04 PM
I’m dinging Anthony for being 29, not because of his first round exits. If we are talking about a draft for this season only, he’s in my top 10 for sure.
February 21st, 2013 at 3:24 PM
Best players Kevin Love has played with:
2008-09: Al Jefferson, Mike Miller, Randy Foye
2009-10: Al Jefferson, Jonny Flynn, Ryan Gomes
2010-11: Michael Beasley, Jonny Flynn, Darko, Martell WEbster
2011-12: Michael Beasley, Brad Miller, JJ Barea, Rubio, Martell Webster
February 21st, 2013 at 4:09 PM
Excuses. I’ve been told making the playoffs in the NBA doesn’t take much. He should be good enough to elevate that lot to an 8 seed.
February 21st, 2013 at 5:25 PM
In the Eastern Conference.
February 21st, 2013 at 5:46 PM
so, making it in the Western Conference is that much harder to do?
February 21st, 2013 at 6:30 PM
Yes.
Not that I’m making a comparison between Kevin Love and Melo (where this came from I don’t know) but pointing out that Love has generally been surrounded by crap his entire career.
February 21st, 2013 at 11:39 PM
Love is a hell of a player. I was just making a point to some people on here who have given me grief about Melo over the years.
