University of North Dakota Radio Announcer Suspended Two Games For Using the Phrase “Choke Job” in Interview with UND Coach After Loss
Team loses basketball game due to late collapse. Radio announcer for the losing school interviews the losing coach after the game. Radio announcer uses the phrase “choke job.” Radio announcer gets suspended.
Ralston interviewed UND coach Brian Jones shortly after North Dakota’s 74-72 overtime loss to Northern Arizona at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. UND held a narrow lead in the final minute of regulation, but Northern Arizona rallied to force overtime and eventually won the game.
Ralston used the words “choke job” in his interview session with Jones.
This sounds like it has the makings of a “fair or foul” segment on PTI. My $ 0.02, even though you didn’t ask – guess this means if you work for the school in a media capacity, you must be a shill.

Curious what the context was, not listed in the linked piece…”choke job” a stupid phrase meant for sports talk radio callers and Skip Bayless but suspension seems a bit much

I can’t stop picturing the one University of North Dakota fan (who doubles as the one citizen of North Dakota) being disappointed on Signing Day.

Speaking of Dakotas, lot of jobs in those states, I hear. Oil companies desperately need workers. This means you have to actually live there, but you take the good with the bad.

Doesn’t even just apply to colleges, the Cubs gave Steve Stone the boot after he had the audacity to take the Cubs to task for blowing their Wild Card lead the last week of 2004

It’s like the boomtowns in the old west. People work all week in the oil/shale fields and then come into town, get all drunk and get into fights. There’s an article somewhere on this.

By the way, last night someone was actually complaining about Duffy giving out the score for Arsenal-Bayern Munich game. I realize TBL commenters whine with the best of them, but still.

suspension with or without pay? Either way, I’d imagine he’ll just go get tanked at the local watering hole, as there can’t be anything else to do.

agreed that there should be less soccer coverage.

God, it would suck to be sober in the Dakotas.

Also in Alaska. I’ve watched many Alaska State Trooper episodes where they are dealing with people in dry areas drinking illegally. Tough place to live for an alcoholic.
