He needs to be thrown open. Which sometimes Brady can do very very well. It’d be nice to find a guy that can get himself open downfield, and take some pressure off.

I think the problem here is that Lloyd just isn’t very good.

It’s not set up that way but you still have to stretch the field, especially when Gronk is out, to make the offense work. They didn’t have it and Baltimore knew it and hence they were able to stop them.

He was pretty darn good in Denver when Orton would throw it downfield to him.

No. Welker’s a really good receiver and Edelman is an anciallary piece. It’s just a cap situation reaility. I dont think NE dislikes Welker. NE hit gold when they signed him and I think people foolishly think anybody can come in off the street and put up Welker’s #’s. It’ll be really intersting to see what NE does to offset this next year.

Getting someone who can actually make a play down the field seems to be more of a need – and harder one to find – than resigning Welker.

They may suffer a little bit, but for what he wants to get paid it’s not worth it. The Pats need a receiver who can catch the ball down the field more than anything offensively. My biggest memories the last two seasons of Welker in the playoffs was dropping the pass in the SB and dropping a downfield pass in the AFCCG and getting beat all to hell.
