Mitchell Marcus, a Special Needs Student, Scored a Basket on Senior Night and the Video is So Damn Good
Mitchell Marcus is a senior at Coronado High School in El Paso, Texas. Marcus is also a special needs student in his fourth and final season as team manager for the basketball team. For Senior Night on February 12th, coach Peter Morales let Marcus suit up. With the game in hand at the end of the 4th quarter against rival Franklin High, Marcus got a chance to step on the court.
With fans chanting “Mitchell! Mitchell!” his teammates did everything they could to get Marcus a basket, but in the end it was Franklin senior Jon Montanez who stepped up. With :13 remaining, without prompting from anyone, Montanez inbounded the ball to Marcus and told him to shoot. After a few tries, with just a second left on the clock, Marcus got his basket. The crowd went crazy, stormed the court and carried Mitchell off the court on their shoulders.

When people lose their sh!t over the outcome of a high school game, they should think of this. It’s just kids. Good on the dude from Franklin.

Well that’s a bummer. I too busy getting testing for strep thanks my sweet child who likes to bring in the funk to the house every damn month.

This is good stuff.
My kids HS has stopped games for opposing team players hitting milestones (1,000 pts, etc) and those were always cool moments – parents involved and all. Something like this would be even better.

Nice to see a large group of people that includes students, student-athletes, and adults making great decisions.

That sucks – we never had those kind of issues with my kids.
Might want to let the kid play in and eat some dirt and bugs to build up those immunities. Playing with bees seemed to help my oldest.

I shouldn’t have chopped onions before I watched that video. All sorts of good all around.

You should give this stuff a try. I met the owner by happenstance at a Falcons game. I ordered some PB a week or so later and it was fantastic.

You’re too lazy to google it? So am I.
I live in the Atlanta burbs and we have them there. I’m in Naples, FL and found one here.
PB is one great invention.

It’s weird to think that Trader Joes is owned by Aldi’s.
February 19th, 2013 at 11:52 AM
wow..really?
for a grocery store, Aldi’s pays their employees quite well. Better than any other grocery store in the country. You work hard as hell for that money but cashiers start out between 12-14 an hour. Managers can make 17-19 an hour starting out but you’re also one of only a few employees in the store so you’re busting ass all day.
February 19th, 2013 at 11:52 AM
actually I’ve noticed that quite a few things are less expensive at Trader Joe’s than at the major grocery store near where I live. the trade-off is that the selection isn’t quite as good.
February 19th, 2013 at 11:52 AM
JIF Natural crunchy
February 19th, 2013 at 11:53 AM

Yeah – I’m on the 6 meal a day deal where you up your protein intake. I like the Trader Joes PB b/c there’s nothing but peanuts and salt.

I’m all about the almond butter these days.

I agree with this statement.

I’m all about the almond butter these days.
I eat almonds frequently for snacks. I’m starting to get tired of them so I’m not sure if the butter would work for me. I do need to try it.
February 19th, 2013 at 12:02 PM
Cashew butter is also a favorite of mine
February 19th, 2013 at 12:35 PM
God damn. The kid on Franklin has true heart. Awesome story.
February 19th, 2013 at 12:38 PM
Never tried it, too expensive. I’m sure I would love it though.
February 19th, 2013 at 4:50 PM
Nice Vid
Trader Joe’s has this spread called cookie butter. Delicious!
I always thought they were high priced before the wife started shopping there. Not that bad and many items are cheaper than regular supermarkets.
