Luke Kuechly, the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, Currently Living Hard at Boston College
Luke Kuechly, the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year, has gone back to school. Unlike Cam Newton, who is quietly keeping his head down while he works on his studies at Auburn, the Panthers linebacker has been living it up in the Boston College dorms. Kuechly skipped the Super Bowl because he had class the next day, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t living the hard, glamorous life of a professional athlete. Kuechly is currently burning through a four-year, $12.6 million contract. Just look at these quotes from the Charlotte Observer as we go through this Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous checklist on how to throw it all away.
Doing things for people from childhood? Check.
Kuechly said he returned to campus to honor a promise he made to his parents, Tom and Eileen, who wanted him to finish his degree.
Prime real estate? Check.
“It’s great. I’m right on campus. Everything’s real close. I can get everywhere easily.”
Partying? Check.
He’s planning on spending a few days in Florida during spring break and will wrap up his studies in time to participate in the Panthers’ offseason program in April.
Hanging with old friends?
“I thought this would be a good opportunity to do it. All my friends are still around school. It’s still relatively fresh in my mind.
Fancy food? Check.
“We have a kitchen in the dorm to cook food. So it’s working out.”
Sex? Check.
“I’ve got a bed and everything.”
Obsessed with material possessions? Check.
“I packed a couple bags with some clothes and books and school stuff, and came on up.”
Hard living? Check.
Kuechly is taking five classes – marketing research, applied marketing, operations management, social media and an independent study course.
For the sake of the Carolina Panthers, let’s hope that Kuechly can get away from this life and focus on more important things.

My fake id got taken on a spring break in florida. Fuck that place
February 18th, 2013 at 12:23 PM
Does Kuechly being great, yet still not helping Carolina win many games prove anything about MLBs in the NFL and their worth, or just that Carolina blows?

bad coach
overrated QB
no WR depth
3 overpaid, underperforming running backs

Operations management would be the only tough class out of those. Nice work, Luke. Living the life.

Linebackers, to a degree, are just like RBs, in my opinion. There are great ones, but for the most part they’re interchangeable. Good defenses are built on the line.
February 18th, 2013 at 12:27 PM
I thought only chicks majored in marketing. Seriously, go look at just about any company’s marketing department. Always filled with chicks.
February 18th, 2013 at 12:27 PM
This is my line of thinking as well, but then I watch ATL play without “Spoon and you can immediately see a difference.
February 18th, 2013 at 12:28 PM
Maybe he just wants to hang with the ladies while in class? It does seem like marketing is a female-driven major though.
February 18th, 2013 at 12:29 PM
But I think he’s one of the better LBs in the league. Also, I’m just used to watching shitty LBs.

Smart guy. Although, I hope BC has a large population of out of state coeds.

well, there’s marketing that is data driven, analytic work and there’s ‘promotions’

February 18th, 2013 at 12:35 PM
At my office we have three separate teams. Editorial, sales and then liesure. In the editorial dept there are 11 of us and 9 are women. Looks like they’re about to hire another woman, too. At this point the other dude and myself might want to accept that we’re quota hires.
February 18th, 2013 at 12:37 PM
Nope. Sorry to disappoint.

Living the life among uptight, unattractive, non-partying, catholic girls.
Of the many Boston area schools, BC is ahead of only that freak show MIT in all the important categories (booze, girls, fun).

Luke can wander over to Simmons and see how many feminists he can convert

how long before simmons gave him a uterus?
February 18th, 2013 at 12:47 PM
My brother is friend’s with an ATL chef who is apparently quite good. He and his wife were planning to open their own restaurant in the very near future when he found out he has stage 4 bladder cancer. He’s like 34-years-old.

The fact I’ve never been stung by a bee is the biggest miracle in my 25 years of life.

Well then lets liven it up. Best burger joints?

The latest Die Hard looks like a total train wreck, but after a whole 4 days in theaters, it’s already made $117+ million worldwide. Production cost was $92 million, and they probably spent at least another $40 million promoting it (if not double that). This fucker will probably turn a profit.

Gotta put these in tiers. For example, everyone wants to compare 5 Guys to In and Out, but they are on different tiers. I’ve heard Shake Shack in NY is amazing, but I’ve never been. Smashburger was okay, and I think it’s similar to Shake Shack, though I’m not positive.
February 18th, 2013 at 1:03 PM
Alzheimers and ALS scare the hell out of me. Everytime I forget something I was told 15 previous, I freak out.

Smashburger is allright. Red Robin wins it for me, In and Out is a class of thier own.
Park Burger in Denver.
February 18th, 2013 at 1:07 PM
I’ve only been one time, and the place was slammed. I was not impressed. Perhaps the hype hurt them, but I have had several burgers better than the one I had at the In and Out in Vegas.
February 18th, 2013 at 1:08 PM
Due to the boom of craft burger joints, it’s hard for me to get a burger at most places when I know there is a good place near me that has one. Plus I think I make a pretty mean burger, and they’re easy to do.
February 18th, 2013 at 1:08 PM
Oh I forgot the Carl’s Jr 5 dollar restaruant burger when it first came out
February 18th, 2013 at 1:10 PM

That’s like wanting to talk hot women, and bringing up Kate Upton.

Michael Symon in Cleveland has a burger chain called B Spot that’s pretty great

Richard Blais (Top Chef All-Stars winner) has Flip Burger Boutique in Atlanta. He’s not an owner of it, but he was the menu creator. It’s good. Not out of this world, but pretty good.

February 18th, 2013 at 1:32 PM
I had a great burger with fried mac and cheese balls on top of it the other day.
The best burgers are the ones with shaved pork or beef ribs on top of them, hands down. If it’s not a meat or cheese, it’s in the way.
February 18th, 2013 at 1:35 PM
I had one with oxtail that was braised in chocolate stout. That and goat cheese. It was phenomenal.
If you’re ever in Chicago, Bad Apple is worth visiting.
February 18th, 2013 at 1:36 PM
I disagree. I like a well-cooked burger with summer tomatoes, red onion shavings and some pickle. Don’t get me wrong, I like the meat-fest burgers as well, but the classic cheeseburger cooked well is a thing of beauty.

Anybody been to Slaters 50/50? I guess their burgers are 50% bacon and 50% beef. Saw it on a Food Network show I believe. I would guess those would be some pretty tasty burgers.
February 18th, 2013 at 1:41 PM
There’s a little greasy spoon diner in my old town which had the best burgers for cheap prices. Few things beat smalltown diners
February 18th, 2013 at 1:41 PM
I do make a killer beef and sausage meatloaf. But back to burgers…
February 18th, 2013 at 1:45 PM
I felt this way about London Fletcher in Buffalo. Good player, and it’s amazing he’s lasted in the league this long, but I never felt he was a game changer. And now people are talking about him as a dark-horse HOF candidate, which seems kind of absurd.
February 18th, 2013 at 1:45 PM
Interesting. I would think the bacon would completely overpower the beef in this scenario.
February 18th, 2013 at 1:48 PM

I actually miss chemo. It wasn’t that bad. They chemo lounge was nice, loaded with fresh gourmet doughnuts and cupcakes. Now the the 2 months after chemo were horrible. Technically you are through with treatment, but you feel week and tired and you want to resume your life but you can’t. I finished in July, took me till December till I felt normal. I’m 38 and went in the healthiest I’d ever been in my life. I’m almost back to 100% and the only lingering side effects are some occasional tinnitus. But I was lucky. I started in peak physical shape. I met some people in the treatment that were in bad shape. They meds have improved so much that I never threw up during chemo, all though one weekend I wanted to.
The movie 50/50 captures the experience very accurately in my opinion.
