Didn’t realize he was only 79. Not being snarky, it’s just that he has owned the team for a while now. Figured he was lot older. Anyways, kudos for being a great owner. Wasnt shy about spending money.

Stephen a was just on the herd talking about how they may dump salaries to pay the death tax for the estate. God I wish Kobe could get out of there before Jimmy complete taints Kobe legacy.

And Donald Sterling continues to live.

I think Kobe’s legacy is fairly secure, no matter how his teams do henceforth.

RIP Buss. Easily on the Mt. Rushmore of greatest sports owners.

So too Busta Rhymes

So will they finally sign Phil Jackson this offseason?
February 18th, 2013 at 11:09 AM
No offense, but Grantland is the decider of this.

Bought the Lakers in ’79 at the age of 42. Talk about timing.

something tells me the lakers would gladly hand over Dwight howard as part of any estate tax payment to the gov’t

very smart man and a poker player.

LA Times says he was 80. many outlets last week said he was 79.

from the LA Times: A Depression-era baby, Jerry Hatten Buss was born Jan. 27, 1933, in Salt Lake City. His parents divorced when he was an infant.

the man that took magic to his first visit to the playboy mansion. sniff, getting dusty in here

Yup, he had a PhD in chemsitry.

Cancer sucks.
Always believed he’d go out buried in a couple of 20 year old blondes.

Now is the time, really. If they somehow could get sterling to sell the clippers to a competent owner, they could become the team for that city. Especially considering mini-buss is by all accounts a jackass.

Wiki has him born on Jan 27, 1934

What I got from this: Jerry Buss may have been indirectly responsible for Magic Johnson getting HIV.
February 18th, 2013 at 11:20 AM
They’ll always be Bill Simmons’s Clippers first, then LA’s Clippers second.

shudders at the thought of it being directly
February 18th, 2013 at 11:28 AM
Well, he also looked 90 years old. I assumed the 79 was a typo at first.
February 18th, 2013 at 11:40 AM
No doubt. No one can take away that he has been a all-time top 10 player, an asshole, a dick to many of his teammates, and an anal rapist.
February 18th, 2013 at 11:57 AM
Interesting to see the will. Especially to who he leaves the team.

RIP… Now that old man Buss has croaked, the team will be sold to the highest bidder, Magic will probably unload that 1% stake in the Dodgers to be part of the group who will be buying the Lakers…
February 18th, 2013 at 12:29 PM
That whole Dodgers buy was done on loan…Magic still has the cash.
February 18th, 2013 at 12:32 PM
Man earned a PhD in physical chem from USC at age 23. I took a course in p-chem in school and it damn near killed me.
February 18th, 2013 at 12:33 PM
well, charliewade, when buss was 23, physical chemistry was making volcanoes with papier mache and oatmeal
February 18th, 2013 at 12:46 PM
it can’t not be Jeannie, right?

I remember Magic saying, that was the biggest check he had to write.
