Wichita and KCMO are in a battle to see which city can outfuck themselves with public monies.

The best was when the city didn’t want to give a bunch of tax breaks to get a Bass Pro Shop downtown, so then they turn around and give a bunch of tax breaks to Gander Mountain. Because that’s what you do when you’re looking to revitalize your downtown: Go with the lesser known, poorer quality destination retail shop.

“Giving Wichita a bad name”? Please. We can’t even convince half our voting populace that fluoridation is a good thing. There are more guns in this town than books. We used to lead the nation in liquor stores per capita (and may still). We lost a Royals minor league team to Arkansas, for God’s sake! We can’t even build a downtown arena from scratch large enough to host first round NCAA games, because it would be too expensive!
