Maryland Boosts NCAA Tournament Profile with Win Over No. 2 Duke
Maryland, desperate for a resume-bolstering victory to improve its NCAA Tournament chances, got one Saturday with an 83-81 win over rival Duke.
The Terps, which lost to Duke last month by 20 on the road, earned their best win of the season when Seth Allen sank two free throws with 2.8 seconds left. Ben Brust wasn’t playing for Duke, and the court in College Park was stormed.

Alex Len led the Terps 19 points; his counterpart, Duke’s Mason Plumlee, had his worst game of the season, scoring just four points before fouling out. Plumlee wasn’t assertive, Duke fell in love with the 3-pointer (4-for-17 at one point, 6-for-19 for the game), and the Blue Devils lost despite a staggering 26 turnovers by the Terps.
The Blue Devils dropped to 9-3 in the ACC and are 2.5 games behind Miami, which plays Clemson Sunday.

Great game to be at. Len dominated Plumlee and I underestimated what a great player Seth Curry is.
The Duke basketball fanbase proved themselves to be the sorest losers in the world again tonight. Their womens coach was tweeting out insults and putdowns about UMD and the students during the game. Great precedent to set about sportsmanship. Duke is always above it until they lose and than they are the sorest losers in the world. It is very sad because they have a great program and great tradition but they lose with about as much dignity as Karl Rove does.

I’m thrilled my Terps finally got a signature win, but dayum is this team frustrating to watch. Maryland should have won that game by 30, but they’re sloppy, undisciplined, and terrible at situational basketball. They have to find a way to run everything through Len and minimize the turnovers.

The turnovers in that game became comical. Faust and Allen are natural 2 guards, but it is no coincidence the team gets a signature win right after Pe’shon is suspended.

I don’t know what the Woman’s coach said, but the idea that the coach of the Women’s team can say enough to get under the skin of Terps fans after a Terps Men victory tells you everything you need to know about the state of this “rivalry”. For one thing, the Maryland student section should never mistake being obscene for being clever.
