Izzo’s best year coaching, ever, was when Neitzel was the only returning starter. That team getting to the 2nd round of the tourney was impressive. That was a team void of talent.

His philosophy doesn’t lend itself to strong execution IMO. It is pressure, pressure, pressure, run, run, run. It is more about attrition and quantity than precision and quality. This is why he plays such a deep rotation, another part of his philosophy I abhor

Loser talk. Great coach but “letting” other schools get better talent is sour grapes.

He’s like a 2/3 Gary Williams. He involves himself in the AAU shitstorm only to get kids outta Chicago. He recruits Michigan and the upper Midwest well, and is selective about going national. There’s plenty of talent there, and he develops it well.

Having a team that plays sound basketball, like good transition defense, not taking shots that espose you on fast breaks where your guards get too deep without a rotation, on ball defense, – that’s outside of being a good game coach. Butler does the aforementioned things very well (and also rotated a number of bigs who play good defense), but Stevens will fuck up some things in game and usually reacts to the other coach. That said, he’s a very solid coach overall.
