Wonderful.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:24 AM
Derrick Rose may take the entire year off. Won’t return until he’s 110%.
so he’s never coming back? i was under the impression you could only be 100%.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:25 AM
Super pumped for Singer’s new X-Men flick.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:26 AM
Clearly he’s not using the guy who took the SAT for him to write his interview answers.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:26 AM
Happy Endings is moving to Fridays because oh F**K you, ABC
you should be rooting for this one to migrate to TBS, too. Because people would prefer to watch the utterly awful Modern Family, which I guess makes them feel tolerant of those kooky gays.
I’m waiting for Kaiserwilhelmreems to come in and tell me last night’s episode was “spot on” and “top notch writing.”
February 14th, 2013 at 8:26 AM
That made my morning!
February 14th, 2013 at 8:27 AM
Lisk’s new Chiefs tat is sweet. Now we just have to convince J-Mac to get a Jet on his skull.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:28 AM
Decent bracket…they put “protector of pederasts” at -750. Seems like free money.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:28 AM
Phil Collins Day Celebration …
all in
February 14th, 2013 at 8:29 AM
No surprise that he won’t come back until he feels right. Seems like people in Chicago were thinking that would be fairly soon (couple weeks). His comments make it sound like it could be a lot longer than that.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:31 AM
Shouldn’t the dash cam video have ended with the mob beating the crap out of the driver that hit the dad and the kid?
February 14th, 2013 at 8:31 AM
priorities, this guy has them
February 14th, 2013 at 8:31 AM
This is great news. Just another blowhard getting dumped from sports radio. Now they need to get rid of Dennis and Callahan and people might actually listen to the station again.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:33 AM
Wonder what it’s going to take to get him out of there. Say Mack Brown retires and Texas back up the money truck to his door. Does he head to Austin?
February 14th, 2013 at 8:33 AM
I tore my ACL within a week of Derrick Rose…been playing basketball for a couple of weeks. Although if it was my career, I’d sit out a little longer.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:36 AM
Link
February 14th, 2013 at 8:37 AM
That Toledo story is touching. Hope the girl comes out okay.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:37 AM
Funny, my friend just emailed with his comments on the SI swimsuit edition, and after Kate, Genevieve Morton was his 2nd fav pictorials.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:40 AM
Awesome.
Yeesh.
With those guys, Trout & Trumbo, that lineup is gonna mash this season.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:41 AM
I think he does. I think he leaves for USC or Texas. Not sure he would leave for any other job unless the new Oregon coach fails.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:43 AM
the fuck?
February 14th, 2013 at 8:43 AM
I think the NBA Dunk Contest peaked in 1990
February 14th, 2013 at 8:44 AM
Now they need to get rid of Dennis and Callahan
I’ll admit I sometimes flip over there during the morning commute just to “hate listen” to those fuckers. I know it is their schtick, but god damn they are the absolute worst.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:45 AM
Genevieve Morton
Looks at linked photo, tilts head…. amazing
February 14th, 2013 at 8:46 AM
Agreed. Wish Nebraska could lure him away, but even with its tradition, fan base and facilities I don’t see it happening.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:47 AM
i couldnt see chris petersen at texas…doesnt seem like it’d fit culturally at all.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:47 AM
This is actually the least talented Slam Dunk Contest field ever.
Is this code that there is two white guys in the field?
February 14th, 2013 at 8:48 AM
not going to lie, this was pretty damn funny.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:49 AM
I have no clue what the culture of Texas is other than boots, belt buckles and fried food at the state fair. What about the culture do you think would not work for him?
February 14th, 2013 at 8:49 AM
I could get on board with this. I do like Holley though. At least he can be disagreeable without being a condescending prick like the rest of them.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:49 AM
In the 3-pt contest, when they do the handheld camera behind the shooter, offset and to the side of the ball rack, where you see the ball do it’s entire path to the hoop, and the guy flushes a whole rack. a thing of beauty
Bird / Hodges / Price / Hornacek / Stojakovic
February 14th, 2013 at 8:50 AM
Happy Endings is moving to Fridays because oh F**K you, ABC
bitches.
/Ringling Brothers for brothas. Its the greatest show on Earf.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:50 AM
I started listening to WEEI right when Holley/Ordway paired up. I thought he was ok.
I liked Mike Salk when he was on espn radio, didn’t know he was a chowd.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:50 AM
Although it was embarrassing the year they let Craig Hodges shoot when he wasn’t on a roster. Terrible.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:51 AM
I don’t see it either, but if Pelini leaves or is dumped, NEB has to go to Petersen first. If he turns them down so be it, but it’d be a crime not to try. Of course they’re probably stuck with Pelini.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:51 AM
The three point contest is the best part of the All Star game and every NBA video game ever made.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:51 AM
Must we talk about this every year? The dunk contest sucks. We all realize that. I don’t want to hear about it or hear about how it can be fixed. Just ignore the damn thing.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:53 AM
i watched tactical knives TV last night…it was phenomenal.
this knife, right hyah…the SEAL pup. yew knowetts good cuz it’s endorsed by gunny, r. lee ermey. nawwwwwwwww yew could just get yourself a nickel plated sissy pistol, sure. but this aint the movies, ya hear?
February 14th, 2013 at 8:53 AM
Pay the dunkers.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:53 AM
being quiet and legitimately successful. that’s just not how the horns roll.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:55 AM
You missed the decade or so previously when he and his cohosts were awful. Holley definitely makes the program better.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:55 AM
Exposed tattoos can really hinder your professional career, or at least it does where I work. People should really study hard on their tat location before pulling the trigger.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:55 AM
Would be really interesting to know every offer that Peterson has turned down and what the proposed terms were. Would possibly shed light on what he’s looking for.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:56 AM
Dumb question – if this idiot with the Chiefs tattoo wanted, would his hair grow back through the tattoo?
/doesn’t have any tats
February 14th, 2013 at 8:56 AM
Glad to see Wayne La Pierre own his crazy.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:57 AM
i dunno, i think his continual refusal sheds light on the fact he might have actually found what he’s looking for already.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:57 AM
Just so stupid….
February 14th, 2013 at 8:58 AM
ive always wondered this as well…i know it doesnt make much sense but for some reason ive always thought hair growing in would push the ink out. because im an idiot you see?
February 14th, 2013 at 8:58 AM
Some dude is now an anchor for CBS Atlanta News and he has two sleeves.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:59 AM
OT- Now that the “Shooter” has described the OBL death scene, and that contradicts the No Easy Day guy, has anybody came out and sided with one account or the other. If these SEALS are the fucking tactical experts they say , how can there be two different versions of how they fucking shot Bin Laden? Spare me the fog of war bullshit. These guys are supposed to be above that. Somebody is lying.
February 14th, 2013 at 8:59 AM
That makes sense. Seems like he enjoys a more intimate setting and doesn’t seem to need the flash of a big program.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:00 AM
He all but said he’ll listen in that link, but if you’re Petersen, you only listen to the plum gigs. Arkansas? Miss State? Fuck no. You wait for Texas, USC, SEC schools like LSU or UGA perhaps. Nebraska thinks they’re in that league but they aren’t, but you probably listen if Nebraska calls.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:01 AM
ive always wondered this as well…i know it doesnt make much sense but for some reason ive always thought hair growing in would push the ink out. because im an idiot you see?
if you google “hairy tattoo” you’re gonna wanna have the safe search on. You don’t get vaginas, you get dicks. So many dicks.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:01 AM
What are the contradictions? You didn’t exactly give that recent article a stunning review.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:01 AM
dude should blend in nicely out at camerohead next fall.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:02 AM
Hurricanes. Tornadoes.
First thing to do in a weather disaster is arm yourself. Got it.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:03 AM
Hurricanes. Tornadoes. Riots. Terrorists. Gangs. Lone criminals. These are perils we are sure to face—not just maybe. It’s not paranoia to buy a gun. It’s survival. It’s responsible behavior, and it’s time we encourage law-abiding Americans to do just that.
If you shot into a tornado, would the bullet pass through, or would it get spun around? Could you accidentally shoot yourself by shooting at a tornado and have it spun out back at you?
February 14th, 2013 at 9:03 AM
Some dude is now an anchor for CBS Atlanta News and he has two sleeves
I think it is definetly becoming more socially acceptable. But I’ll tell you, nothing looks worse to me than going to a wedding and seeing girls in nice dresses with tats all over their back.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:04 AM
Are these sleeves exposed on camera? Almost every anchor I’ve ever seen either wears a sport coat or a long sleeve shirt with a tie….
February 14th, 2013 at 9:05 AM
Deep thoughts by Jack Handy.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:05 AM
If you know he has them you can see them on his wrists from time to time.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:06 AM
I view tattoos like I view thongs. If you’re hot you can get away with pretty much anything. If you look like Lena Dunham you look like a bag of trash.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:06 AM
really? nothing looks better to me than bridesmaids that will put out after a couple drinks and the chicken dance.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:06 AM
why the fuck did i google “hairy tattoo?” at work, no less?
February 14th, 2013 at 9:07 AM
that’s not fair though…what, aside from losing about 40 lbs, would make lena dunham NOT look like a bag of trash? spanx?
February 14th, 2013 at 9:07 AM
So he has to keep them covered, which is my point.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:08 AM
At the very least, depending on where you get a tattoo, you’re gonna get judged for it whether you like it or not.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:08 AM
and is probably wearing shorts
February 14th, 2013 at 9:08 AM
it’s really total bullshit that lena dunham’s allowed to show her tits on TV, but mr anchorman can’t show off his koi pond sleeve.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:08 AM
That’s not the tattoos.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:10 AM
If I had sleeves, there’s no way I would’ve gotten my current position as night shift assistant manager at Bojangles. SHort sleeves are a must when you’re having to man the fry station after one of your asshole employee calls in.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:10 AM
He does at night, but he was a morning show guy on the same channel and they advertised around his tattoos. They had the three other hosts get henna tattoos and put them on bilboards around Atlanta.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:11 AM
Depends on the woman and the tattoo and how they carry it.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:12 AM
It’s a good day to fuck off this afternoon for a round of golf. Can’t wait.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:12 AM
It is more total bullshit that Allison Williams won’t show her tits.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:12 AM
Thank you CRM
February 14th, 2013 at 9:12 AM
Googles Lena Dunham, sticks hot pokers in eyes.
/are we now celebrating TV stars who we made fun of in high school?
February 14th, 2013 at 9:12 AM
Hell yea, Bojangles!
/heart shaped biscuits, ftw
February 14th, 2013 at 9:13 AM
It is more total bullshit that Allison Williams won’t show her tits.
considering the recent information that she watches every episode with her dad, I don’t blame her
February 14th, 2013 at 9:13 AM
Later Ordway

February 14th, 2013 at 9:16 AM

are worn out shoes part of the uniform?
February 14th, 2013 at 9:17 AM
I feel awful for her father having to sit through that.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:17 AM
Bojangles chicken biscuits >>> chick fil a chicken biscuits
February 14th, 2013 at 9:18 AM
Don’t you get it? Her nudity is an expression of how vulnerable and free she is as a person???
/gags
February 14th, 2013 at 9:18 AM
considering the recent information that she watches every episode with her dad, I don’t blame her
considering how stuck up her character is, there’s really no way she’d consent to having sex with a homo who had done sex to a middle aged homo, she would have said AIDS way before he ever got his dick in.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:18 AM
Oh Yes! Definitely
February 14th, 2013 at 9:21 AM
Can we jointly agree that she would be the first celebrity that we would all want sent on a rocket flown to the sun?

February 14th, 2013 at 9:24 AM
I was thinking the same thing.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:26 AM
Saw Phil Collins in concert once, was a good show.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:26 AM
Did he mean to do it? I doubt he could see the car with the massive truck in front of it. Accidents happen.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:27 AM
Fair enough. Almost any/all reality “star” would be on that ship.
It would be like the Simpsons Halloween episode where the proming people are sent away from Earth and the idiots are shot into the sun.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:27 AM
Can we jointly agree that she would be the first celebrity that we would all want sent on a rocket flown to the sun?Honey Boo Boo?./Saw the South Park episode on Honey Boo Boo. It was Excellent!
February 14th, 2013 at 9:29 AM
The money truck is headed to a doorstep in Alabama next year.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:30 AM
Yeah, UGA doesn’t belong in this conversation. Nice try though.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:31 AM
This is bullshit.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:32 AM
Boston radio personality Glenn Ordway will leave WEEI on Friday.
Kevin Winter, the sports update anchor on Dennis and Callahan who was just hired 6 weeks ago was fired on Monday. Ratings for all shows are not good and 98.5 Sports Hub is killing them which is ironic because Glenn Ordway gave many of the hosts on the Hub a shot with filling in for his show. Also the Hub covers Bruins constantly which has been the complaint about WEEI over the past few years. Everyone at WEEI is on notice.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:33 AM
Please make this happen…but have it happen in 3 years after Richt has retired and Kirby takes over in Athens.
I said perhaps for a reason, but UGA is a top-10 job for sure. You just need to accept that.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:33 AM
Yes it is. Total bullshit.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:34 AM
you know what’s bullshit? the USGA starting to drug test for the US Amateur.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:34 AM
So now teams will try and intentionally hurt opponents to get the runoff, yes?
February 14th, 2013 at 9:35 AM
WTF? It doesn’t take that long to spike the ball though?
February 14th, 2013 at 9:35 AM
Yet in the SEC they still wouldn’t see holding by players.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:36 AM
USC, Oregon, Texas, Oklahoma, OSU, Michigan, Florida, Bama, LSU, and ND.
10 jobs better than UGA.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:36 AM
UGA doesn’t want to spike it anyway
February 14th, 2013 at 9:36 AM
Damn. Bartholomew Wentworth III better lay off that coke when he’s at the country club.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:36 AM
Where’s the Johnny Knox retirement link….at?
This whole thing has me bent backwards
February 14th, 2013 at 9:36 AM
really hoping this rule doesn’t get approved
February 14th, 2013 at 9:36 AM
Geez, why? He did the sports flash. What does that have to due with ratings at all? Did anyone really get upset when Meter left?
February 14th, 2013 at 9:37 AM
oregon and michigan are a no.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:37 AM
Because it was the right call, but I get people like being MMQBs.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:37 AM
That sounds dumb. It can be done much quicker.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:37 AM
Did Bama get called for holding once this year in a meaningful game?
February 14th, 2013 at 9:38 AM
Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton took batting practice together for the first time.
Albert: Hey Josh, nice to see you. Know where I can score some HGH?
Josh: Hey Albert. What, you don’t get it through Jeter’s guy?
February 14th, 2013 at 9:38 AM
It takes 2 seconds at the most to spike the ball, right? Why the mandatory run off? Whats’ the logic in that?
February 14th, 2013 at 9:38 AM
Have you been smoking weed under the eiffel tower again?
February 14th, 2013 at 9:38 AM
I think they got hit twice in the ND bloodbath, actually. But of course that wasn’t with SEC refs.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:39 AM
selfishly, im more concerned about spencer0-IX-VI having to lay off the doja yo.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:39 AM
If you think Oregon is a better job than UGA you’re a god damn moron. Michigan is arguable for sure, but not Oregon.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:40 AM
id say oregon is a better job because of less conference pressure, nike’s money and their burgeoning reputation as a college football thinktank.
no problem with UGA above michigan tho!
February 14th, 2013 at 9:40 AM
Agreed.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:41 AM
i guess im a god damned moron then.
/shrugs
February 14th, 2013 at 9:42 AM
UGA has money. Lots of it. They just have it from different donors. I agree on the pressure aspect though. Chip Kelly could do as he pleased in Eugene and no one gave a fuck either way.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:42 AM
They lost the game, so you cant really say it was the right call.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:42 AM
Then call me a moron. Oregon has more money than any university, the best facilities in the country, and there’s something to be said about being on teir 1 in the pac 12 instead of tier 3 in the SEC.
I know you worship all things SEC, but Oregon is a better job than UGA.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:43 AM
Well, if Vlad is agreeing with you, you’re definitely on the wrong side of the debate.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:44 AM
NHL looked at Cooke severing Karlsson’s achilles with his skate, saw no cause to take action. Right call. Eat a dick hockey fans on twitter.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:44 AM
T Boone would like a word.
No it isn’t. At all.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:44 AM
yea, im not disagreeing on that, but it’s a lot easier to increase one’s profile in a conf with two teams that can compete with ya rather than about, oh say, EIGHT like in the SEC. just ask ohio state!
/URBAN WANTS YOU TO GET BETTER, ILLINOIS
February 14th, 2013 at 9:44 AM
Agreed.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:46 AM
The Bama players were freaking out. Yelling at each other and confused. The dude who tackled the WR who caught the ball was supposed to blitz and fucked up. It was the right call, it just didn’t work out. Sucks for UGA, but such is life.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:48 AM
No doubt Oregon’s profile has increased by insane numbers since Kelly came on, but that doesn’t make it a better job. Natural recruiting base is kind of a big deal, but I know you understand that as opposed to some people.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:48 AM
is that much different than Richt in Athens though? not saying he tries to get away with anything, and according to certain websites he is always on the hot seat, but is there anything he has tried to do at UGA where he has been told no?
February 14th, 2013 at 9:48 AM
They found a way to get money from the UGA frats paying homeless black guys to pick cotton balls off their front lawns? Good for them!
February 14th, 2013 at 9:49 AM
indiana’s got a problem. minnesota’s got a problem. i want a 4.6 second football conference. an angry football conference. i want those boilermakers to get that 4-star DE from georgia. kirk ferentz better get that 5-star WR from texas. we’re not good enough, nowhere near where we want to be as a conference. we dont redshirt programs here in the big ten…if youre not cutting it, we’ll replace you with arizona or TCU.
“you can’t do that urban.”
/has heart attack
February 14th, 2013 at 9:49 AM
No, but they had a fateful encroachment call at home against The Fighting Manziels
February 14th, 2013 at 9:50 AM
all california’s and texas’ talented players that are too dumb to qualify at USC or stanford and weren’t good enough in 8th grade to commit to texas?
February 14th, 2013 at 9:50 AM
Weren’t you one of the guys who called me out when I said this exact same thing about Tennessee?
February 14th, 2013 at 9:51 AM
Richt has come under fire for assistants he’s hired and things he’s done re: recruiting. The main base loves him for sure, but there is a sold 15% that are vocal in their displeasure. Of course going 12-2 helps, but if UGA goes 9-3 this year, even with a tough schedule, people will bitch and moan.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:52 AM
Feel like an armed Bill Paxton stood a much better chance in Twister.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:52 AM
I could argue the opposite, Murray was calling for a spike, UGA’s offense wasnt completely settled either. The Bama player might have fucked up as you say but he ended up in the perfect position.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:52 AM
And if there’s anything that helps during a hurricane, it’s guns.

February 14th, 2013 at 9:54 AM
The Tenn job blows. It’s third tier at this point in the SEC.
/sorry Miz
Spencer: If UGA landed this class people would flip the fuck out. They were bitching about only signing 20 ESPN top 300 kids this year. The base of talent with which a coach can pick and choose is just so much better down here than it is for Oregon. It’s hard to get, as there are a ton of schools coming after the same kids, but the talent is there.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:54 AM
Better to be lucky than good I suppose.

February 14th, 2013 at 9:58 AM
Oregon is too far removed from a local recruiting base to be a top ten job. Top 20? Sure. Top 15? Maybe. A couple down years and the Texas pipeline dries up.
They remind me of Nebraska post-Osborne, when they still had pipleines into NJ, Califonia and Texas. A couple “down” seasons and a bad coaching hire later and it’s all gone.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:58 AM
They put Phil, Bradley and Haas in the same pairing at Riviera, they were in the playoff last year.
February 14th, 2013 at 9:58 AM
Does holding down that student, beating him, and taking his money count?
February 14th, 2013 at 9:59 AM
Georgia? Georgia got 14 ESPN top 300 kids this year,
February 14th, 2013 at 9:59 AM
i totally agree, but again, oregon is building the name-value and has the resources to reach out to kids in the south. it’s not like they’re nebraska or wisconsin…
it’s also a lot easier for oregon to find players for their unique scheme than it is finding preposterously talented pro-style players. mariota was a fucking 3-star!!! but would you say that he’s any worse a fit in oregon’s offense than murray is in UGA’s?
i get the recruiting stuff, but the 2nd part of that equation is developing that talent. otherwise texas would actually be decent!
/must be terrible texas thursday!
February 14th, 2013 at 10:00 AM
Also, if the UGa tailback attacks the blitzer at the line of scrimmage instead of catching him, that ball doesn’t get tipped.
/Dud still gets tackled short of the end zone, tho.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:00 AM
i love riviera so fucking much…what a cool course. why tiger won’t play there is beyond me.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:01 AM
Luke Donald, Adam Scott, Gmac
Freddie, Lee Westwood, Bubba
DJ, Els, Simpson
and Sergio and Charl in the same group too.
Is Riviera walkable if you are in the crowd?
February 14th, 2013 at 10:02 AM
I wonder how great Phil could’ve been with a rotary swing
February 14th, 2013 at 10:02 AM
No one thinks Georgia is actually a better job than Michigan, right?
February 14th, 2013 at 10:03 AM
EEE!!!
can’t really answer that…might have to go there to find out!
February 14th, 2013 at 10:03 AM
This is a pretty terrible mobile site, by the way.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:04 AM
the more relevant question is “i wonder how great phil could’ve been if tiger woods never existed.”
February 14th, 2013 at 10:04 AM
Is Timothy Dolan related to James Dolan? If so, and he’s elected pontiff, can we expect the same administrative competence and dedication to service that Cablevision customers and Knicks fans experience?
February 14th, 2013 at 10:05 AM
Fatter and lazier. Tiger made him raise his game.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:05 AM
this is really sending me for a loop…one one hand, im thinking he could be A LOT better with a more sound swing. on the other hand…49 wins and 4 majors in the era of the most dominant player to ever play the game. that’s pretty fucking great in its own right.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:05 AM
What, no Valentine’s Day GIF?
February 14th, 2013 at 10:05 AM
ooo!!! that’s some good shit right there.

February 14th, 2013 at 10:06 AM
Agree. Phil was flat out fat when Tiger came on the scene. At this point every single golfer after Tiger should thank him.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:07 AM
uh…no. this is fat?
February 14th, 2013 at 10:07 AM
Phil might have won a few more tourneys but Tiger is the best thing that ever happened to him. He made Phil 3x as rich from the surge in prize money and endorsement dollars.
Ernie Els has been proven to have lost more tournemants to Tiger than anybody.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:08 AM
By the way the Papal odds are fucking ridiculous. Having Arinze at 4:1 is retarded considering he’s not eligible to sit as a Cardinal Elector because he turned 80 last year. That and he’s about the furthest right candidate there is.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:08 AM
OH yea. love that quote of his he said to haney re: els…”if i can just get him one more time, i’ll break him.”

i wish i knew more about this…i want to argue vatican politics!!!
February 14th, 2013 at 10:09 AM
Best day of the week. Though if they offer Saban $8 million or whatever it would take, I’ll be a sad CFB fan when he’s wrecking shop in Austin.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:09 AM
Phil is plotting one day to send one a T-1000 back in time to take out Tiger’s Mom before Tiger was born.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:10 AM
This message has been broadcast here so many times that aliens out Alpha Centauri way are probably aware of it by now.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:10 AM
yea…a few times. when you’re on a roll it’s great, but if you’re struggling, it’s HORRIBLE. the more i golf, the more i realize how much better it is for your game to be in a completely sober state of mind.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:10 AM
I should say when Tiger was whipping ass. Wasn’t that when Fat Phil and Mickeltits came about?
/could definitely be wrong
February 14th, 2013 at 10:11 AM
Wow, the Mike Mayock of the Papacy.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:11 AM
Then Tiger would drive his DeLorean time machine back to 9 months before that and nail his own mom to ensure he’s born.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:12 AM
that pic was from 1997…here’s one from 2002. getting bigger, but still not “fat.” phil started to get HUGE after he won his first masters in 2004 and then started slimming down after losing that US Open in 2006 with a few bumps int he road.
dude’s actually lookin pretty slim these days. decent shape, not tiger, but def not fat. tv adds some ‘weight’ too…i saw him in 2007 and he was much thinner than on tv.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:13 AM
With as many African and Latino catholics as there are, is there a good chance that one of those groups will get the next pope? Or will it be an old white guy per usual?
February 14th, 2013 at 10:13 AM
So, in short, I was wrong. 1,000 apologies to Phil and his mistress.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:14 AM
yeah, I’ve done it a couple times. wasn’t a huge fan. I was over thinking shots quite a bit.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:15 AM
phil would be even fatter, but california took half of it.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:15 AM
Peter Turkson from Ghana has a good chance. He’s younger and dynmaic. Arinze had a shot last time but there’s no way they’re going older this time.
It’ll be Turkson, Oullet, or one of the Italians.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:16 AM
If I recall, Phil was really coming into his own the year before Tiger joined the tour (1996?). He was out-talenting the fields and the TW coes and out-talents and outworks everyone. Phil disappeared after that (the “Fat Years”) until he realized (2000-2001) that he needed to get in shape and focus.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:18 AM
The highlight used to be when they played H-O-R-S-E. One year everyone watched Pete Maravich and just gave up.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:18 AM
It will be the Canadian.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:18 AM
@mint- you havent had any fugitive visitors in your back yard, have you?
February 14th, 2013 at 10:19 AM
this was my feeling as well, but i went back…dude won 8 tourneys between 1997-2000. like, i know youre right, that’s when he was still in college hot-shot mode, and probably was considered slumping. just goes to show how fucking ridiculously good that dude was/is.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:20 AM
Having grown up Catholic and knowing many, many Catholics, I would wager that if a black pope is elected, the U.S. Catholic Church will lose at least 40 percent of its membership.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:20 AM
Use Phil’s shoulders as a guide. When he started lifting, he got broader int he shoulders and chest.
/No Coop
//Phil was never Stadler fat, but had the combo of the titties and the gut
February 14th, 2013 at 10:21 AM
His shot on 14 (?) at Augusta when he won a few years ago is one of my favorite all-time shots. One of those “what-the-fuck-are-you-doing-oh-my-god-yes” shots.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:21 AM
They put Phil, Bradley and Haas in the same pairing

February 14th, 2013 at 10:21 AM
For real?
February 14th, 2013 at 10:21 AM
speaking of golf- put the mp 59s up for a while and are back on the jpx. the mps are awesome, but the jpxs actually feel softer and better. i am sure that is user driven.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:23 AM
North America makes up only seven percent of the world’s Catholic population, and when you consider how much of that is Mexico, I seriously doubt they give a shit.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:23 AM
that was 13 and FUCK YES. and despite the ridiculous number of highlights he’s produced at the masters, last year’s flop shot at 15 might be my favorite of all time.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:24 AM
Correction that’s just Canada and the US, still though.
Africa has double the Catholics we have.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:25 AM
Old white guy. I’d bet on the Canadian or one of the italian guys.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:25 AM
The flop shot is the shot I try way too often, rarely hit well, but because I’ve hit it well enough times I just keep doing it. I once played a round where I hit every chip within 20 yards of the hole by flopping it. My golf buddy (who’s pretty good) was not happy about it.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:26 AM
Let me restate that: if a black pope is elected, the Catholic Church in The South and Texas will lose qat least 40 percent of its membership.
/ Also, Boston will turn completely Protestant
February 14th, 2013 at 10:26 AM
yea, it’s user driven, but not a bad thing. the mp59′s are pretty great, but if you want that signature mizuno feel, you gotta compress the ball. jpx’s are much more user friendly and still feel pretty damn great.
ive actually considered picking up some jpx800 (not sure about the new ones yet)…i love the feel, they’re SOOOO forgiving compared to my blades and id probably score a lot better. but blades man…i just dont know if i can go back to CB’s.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:27 AM
it’s like you ripped that from my head. “tons of green to work with, shitty lie and my opponent has a tap-in? FUCK IT FLOP SHOT.”
February 14th, 2013 at 10:28 AM
Ha! Exactly this, except I guarantee you have the game to pull it off. I have no business every hitting a flop shot, but dammit do I love them.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:28 AM
With the last two popes having been non-Italian, I think the Italians take it back this time around. It’s like awarding the World Cup or the Olympics; you can let the outsiders have a taste, but it always comes back home to the Europeans.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:29 AM
I freaking love my mp 59′s. My Dad recently got some JPX’s but I didn’t feel like I could work with them as well. Since I got my 59′s, I’ve been able to play fades, draws, hooks, slices relatively on command – something I’ve never been able to do. Some of that is because I have more control of my swing, but some of it is also the club, obviously.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:29 AM
I’ll credit Mickelson for this: I learned how to hit out of the sand by watching him.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:30 AM
yea, it’s user driven, but not a bad thing. the mp59′s are pretty great, but if you want that signature mizuno feel, you gotta compress the ball. jpx’s are much more user friendly and still feel pretty damn great.
ive actually considered picking up some jpx800 (not sure about the new ones yet)…i love the feel, they’re SOOOO forgiving compared to my blades and id probably score a lot better. but blades man…i just dont know if i can go back to CB’s.
see, thats the thing, i do compress the ball. I can hit the mps pretty well, but i rarely get the butter feel even if the shot is awesome. I have the jpx800s, and they feel like silk.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:30 AM
Are y’all really playing a flop shot? Or are you just using a 60* to “chip” with?
February 14th, 2013 at 10:30 AM
I’d like to live in this world. I hit a 3-iron fad on purpose once and it was just about the best feeling ever. Even called my shot. Couldn’t do that again with 10 attempts probably.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:31 AM
Flop fucking tastic. Hit that bitch way the fuck up all of 15 yards in total distance. I love them. The best is when I toe the fucker and it shoots off almost perfectly horizontally from where the ball sat
February 14th, 2013 at 10:33 AM
I work on it a lot. It’s definitely not something I could just think about and then execute.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:33 AM
Then he missed the 4 foot eagle putt.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:34 AM
you know what got me to stop hitting pitches really high? when i learned to do the one-check-and-stop spinner. if you tihnk it’s fun hitting flops, oh man, wait til you pull that one out during a round and your partners just gasp.
but i do love throwing balls down in the worst spots and seeing how high i can flop it. it’s just so much fun.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:35 AM
I guess I don’t get the chance to try that shot much. West Texas golf is much more accommodating to the bump and run.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:36 AM
I haven’t a clue how to hit this shot, but man are they awesome.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:36 AM
some of the best irons ive ever hit. and the mp64′s are every bit as good too.
yes, im really playing a flop shot even tho i do use my 60* to chip, but those are more low spinners. gotta vary those trajectories yo…you know this.
bet i could get you there in 2 months if you practiced 30 mins a day.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:38 AM
i hear ya…one of the perks golfing in ohio is getting a wide variety of conditions. we had wet swamps and dry scorchers and everything in between. really nice.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:39 AM
because all those Catholics in Africa are just pouring money into the Catholic church? and while the Vatican may not care (they would) the US Catholic church would surely lose their shit. quickly.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:40 AM
I think I could be a pretty decent golfer it it was something I put effort into, but I probably golf 20 rounds a year at max, but that was before my daughter was born. If I golf 10 rounds this year I’ll be happy. I’m also self-taught having never taken lessons. I know nothing about the golf swing from a technical standpoint and when they break a swing down on CBS it reminds me of calculus. I have no doubt my swing is laughably bad to someone who actually knows what they’re doing. Though a few people told me I’m a natural ball striker, so I hang my hat on that.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:40 AM
My favorite drill on the range is to work on hitting “true” draws and fades. A lot of people hit a slightly pulled trap and think they’ve hit a draw.
I aim at the first flag on the range – usually 60 yds down there – and try to hit 6 irons that fly 5 yds to the right of it, and land 5 yds to the left of it (for a draw). It’s improved my mid-iron game tremendously.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:41 AM
I’m guessing my success rate on flop shots is less than 5%. I just can’t pull it off.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:42 AM
When I go to my parents in East Texas, I get some variation. Elevated greens, that sort of thing. Pine Dunes is also down the highway a little bit. That place is a treat.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:42 AM
I’m probably at 10, but dammit it’s a nice 10.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:42 AM
that’s part of the problem right there. IT’S NOT THAT FUCKING HARD. stop telling people it’s hard and just tell them the right shit. god damit…it’s like peter kostis is the toupee’d ferryman who won’t take you across the golf-knowledge river charon until you give him a coin.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:43 AM
is there an easy tip to hit a draw? i have the basics down, but i cant pull it off consistently.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:44 AM
OH yea…i even like to stick one of my snapped shafts in the ground like 5 yards in front of me and draw/fade around it. it’s such good practice.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:44 AM
Pine Dunes is also down the highway a little bit. That place is a treat.
i play there as much as possible. i love how hidden it is.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:45 AM
I have no doubt this is so wrong, but as a soccer player I viewed hitting a draw/fade just like I viewed working the ball from right-to-left and vice versa. I heard someone once say you need to flatten your swing a bit, but honestly I’m not sure a) what that means exactly or b) if it’s true.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:45 AM
no easy tip, but here’s a chart to give you a starting point.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:46 AM
I think a lot of it is natural swing plane.
I strengthen my grip slightly which probably also closes the club face slightly. I aim the club face at the target but align my shoulders and hip line slightly right of target. When I swing, everything is on the shoulder line so the ball should start right of target and work back. Does that make sense? It’s hard to type…hold on, I’ll find a good vid.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:46 AM
The furry kind? Or are we talking real people here?
February 14th, 2013 at 10:47 AM
Luke Donald, Masterclass. I think this is the one where he hits a fade –

Another thing about golf. For me, I have to try it out. Reading this comment just doesn’t click at all with me. I would need someone to show me what to do and then have me try it out. I should have taken lessons years ago. Oh well.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:47 AM
The furry kind? Or are we talking real people here?
like the guy on the loose in our area kind.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:48 AM
I hit a draw by pulling my back foot 3-4 inches behind square, aim 10* right, and take a normal swing.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:49 AM
Just heard about it. That particular escapee wasn’t in my neighborhood. I’m sure the HOA would’ve apprehended him with force anyway.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:50 AM
these are good tips, thanks.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:50 AM
yea, talking about ballflight is way too much shit to put in a comment…
i dont do anything different than i normally do for fade/draw, just adjust my stance. i still swing inside-out for fades, still have an open clubface for draws…just close my stance down for a draw and stay a lil more open for a fade.
i know that’s completely useless information tho…apologies.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:50 AM
Luke Donald seems like a cool dude.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:51 AM
very cool dude…was an art major at NW and does a fuckton for charity. still uses his college coach as his swing coach too, which i always thought was cool.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:53 AM
this is a great luke donald video…he hits the same green with like 9 dif clubs.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:54 AM

i think i mentioned this on here before…played a round with my scratch buddy this summer who only carried a 4i and 60* and he shot 72 or 73.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:57 AM
Setup facing just to the right of your target, then square the clubface to your target.
February 14th, 2013 at 10:57 AM
They’ll care about the money but they’re not going to lose it. The guys who are giving the big money aren’t going to abandon the church over this because it’s a HUGE write off. Groups like Legatus and The Papal Foundation funnel hundreds of millions to the Vatican, and to churches and schools, and they’re headed up by business magnates.
Those people will not bail on the church, it won’t happen.
The dumbshit racist parishioner who decides to stop giving ten bucks a week might leave, but the big money definitely will not. Tom Monaghan of Dominos is one of the biggest church funders in the world, these guys pride themselves on this stuff, zero chance they bail.
They need American business money without a doubt but I don’t think that’s in jeopardy at all. The sex abuse scandals didn’t drive them away, voting in a minority pope won’t either.
February 14th, 2013 at 11:01 AM
i think i mentioned this on here before…played a round with my scratch buddy this summer who only carried a 4i and 60* and he shot 72 or 73.
interesting. what was his reasoning behind that?
February 14th, 2013 at 11:03 AM
But Sub-Saharan Africa has the largest growing Catholic population in the world, they’re not going to ignore that factor in their consideration.
But yeah in all likelihood it will be an Italian in Scola or Bertone.
An African would be intriguing but I’d also like to see Oullet or the Brazlian/Argentine candidates get a shot.
February 14th, 2013 at 11:04 AM
Wow. That’s impressive. Guessing it wasn’t a long course?
February 14th, 2013 at 11:05 AM
just force him to hit different shots and think rather than just grabbing a dif club. his best shot of the day was this beautiful lil 3/4 150y punchy thing that hit the false front of the green, but was low enough to bounce up and release to the front-mid pin, pin high 10 feet.
February 14th, 2013 at 11:05 AM
excellent point.
February 14th, 2013 at 11:06 AM
I’ve got a standing bet with one my asshole friends that thinks he can shoot 80 with a 5-iron only at my course. I mean, like no putter, no driver, just a 5-iron.
February 14th, 2013 at 11:06 AM
na, it was a short, easy muni.
February 14th, 2013 at 11:07 AM
The Vatican doesn’t disclose their finances but it’s estimated that between 50 and 60 percent of their money comes from here, but at the same time the finances of the American church are a fucking mess in no small part because of the billions paid out in abuse settlements.
February 14th, 2013 at 11:07 AM
Tin Cup did it with a shovel, no?
February 14th, 2013 at 11:08 AM
be careful on that ‘no putter’ thing if he’s a good putter…good putters can belly a wedge or a 5i without missing a beat. it was scary how normal my buddy was rolling it by bellying his 60*.
February 14th, 2013 at 11:10 AM
I can’t imagine that course is very hilly or watery.
February 14th, 2013 at 11:11 AM
record for lowest score with a one-club round is 70…your buddy might have much less of a chance than im giving him.
February 14th, 2013 at 11:11 AM
Be careful? I’ll bet this guy $1000 any time he wants it. All talk.
I brought him up for one of our big tournaments last year. He was our “A” player and shot 94 on the second day….with all of his clubs.

February 14th, 2013 at 11:18 AM
not to brag or anything, but the club im joining’s 7,029 with a 75.8 rating and 144 slope. my 80-82′s feel like 75′s there.

1230 today. My old boss is in from Scotland and wants to squeeze in a round before he goes back to his cottage a few miles from Carnoustie.

Our rating is down because tee to green there aren’t many hazards. And the greens don’t have dead elephants under them. It’s long. And fairly tight but really fair. That’s why I love it.

first i googled “hairy tattoos” then i cliked that link. clearly, i should just kill myself.

I’ve played it twice before. The greens are a real bear… gotta hit the right spots where the pin is placed or you’re in for some nightmare putt-outs.
February 14th, 2013 at 11:24 AM
hypothetical…would you have more fun breaking 70 on a super easy/short course, shooting 71-79 on a really tough but fair course or shooting in the low 80′s at a complete cunt of a golf course?
i think id still have to go with breaking 70 even if it’s a goat track.

A course you should play sometime when you’re in LV and don’t want to die at the blackjack table

yep. i found the same to be true off the tee box. the fairways are uneven and can lead to some weird approaches.
i have a pass to play there, need to use it soon.

That’s tough. My best round at my home course is 74 and it was a ton of freaking fun.
I think my ultimate goal is to shoot a 71 or better here. I’d rather do that than go to the easy track across town and shoot 69.

Speaking of TX courses, Ram Rock is the hardest course I’ve played.
February 14th, 2013 at 11:31 AM
Wolfdancer (Bastrop) for me.
February 14th, 2013 at 11:32 AM
hmm…i guess it really depends how you play. i shot a 78 at this blah track this year and walked off kinda “meh” but i shot an 86 a week after this course hosted the cleveland amateur and walked off feeling like i played the round of my life.
speaking of nightmare putt-outs…the course im talking about is a great example. 5-footers above the hole are simply DEAD.

TBL texas golf trip? im dying to get back to my other favorite state.
February 14th, 2013 at 11:34 AM
Actually, the toughest TX course I’ve played is probably TPC Craig Ranch (McKinney) or Traditions (College Station)

The 2013 TBL Invitational.
Get drunk, play golf.
Jason will write a blurb about how we’re a bunch of nobody’s.
Duffy will chime in with big words involving how American we play the game.
February 14th, 2013 at 11:36 AM
I’m playing Traditions this summer. Looking forward to it.
February 14th, 2013 at 11:38 AM
first european on the list of all-time majors won is harry vardon (who’s last win was in 1914) and then faldo. 9 yanks and 1 south african above em.
so, in short, damn straight we play the game american.

February 14th, 2013 at 11:43 AM

I only ever play Greentree when they have charity scrambles over there. Fun track. Grip it and rip it.
