There is a difference between a “steal” and an “unknown”.

Exactly. When I think steal, I think of players like Russell Wilson: highly talented but fall to the later rounds for any number of reasons.

I don’t think “steal” is the right word for players like Morris or Hilton, those are more “diamonds in the rough.”

This post should be in reverse. Which skill position spots on which teams can make a late round pick into a steal? What are the best opportunities out there? Conversely, if Ty Hilton goes to Miami, is he worth half a shit? If Alfred Morris ends up on Chicago with that crap o-line, what kind of year does he have?

He says he ran a 4.28 recently in his first timed 40 “in a while”. Some people are speculating about how low he can go at the combine. I’ll believe it when I see it. Horns never really took advantage of his speed (part of which may have been his fault due to track).

Over the course of the five games, 21 throws were attempted into Mathieu’s coverage. Eight were complete for 144 yards with no touchdowns. Mathieu got his hands on nine of the 21 passes, picking off two with five breakups. At the end of two of the completions, Mathieu stripped the receiver and recovered a fumble.

I charted each of Mathieu’s snaps from the five games. He played slot corner on 36 percent of the downs, outside corner on 32.5 percent, and safety on 10 percent. Mathieu lined up at linebacker — usually to rush the quarterback — on 21 percent of his plays. A “joker” in LSU’s defense, Mathieu’s assignment differs from one snap to the next. The LSU staff seems to believe he is an equally effective cover man, run-support defender, and pass rusher. And Mathieu wreaks havoc wherever he lines up, making plays sideline to sideline and causing ball carriers constant disruption.
