LeBron James Sets NBA Record on His Way to Claiming Another MVP

LeBron James is having one of the best seasons in NBA history. Tuesday, LeBron became the first player in NBA history to shoot 60% from the field and score 30 or more points in six straight games. James is 66-of-92 from the floor and 43-of-54 from line in that span.
That puts LeBron in a class by himself. No one – not Kobe, Magic, Kareem, Wilt, or Jordan – has achieved what James has this season.
Still, instead of hearing about James’ achievements over the last six games and this season, we are subjected to the same old argument that he will never be Jordan.
It’s old, it’s tired, and it’s time to move on.

Windhorse had a stat the other day that since he joined the league, he has a few more total points than Kobe on like 500 fewer shots.

he’s the fuckin’ best. i love ya lebron…always will.
February 14th, 2013 at 5:04 PM
Love the Heat +6 tonight

nice tweet, you sack of sh*t.
good bball player, though. plus, he looks like he is on PEDs. kind of obvious.

The best player in the world is in the midst of his prime and absolutely beasting. However, this is a contrived record. I can’t beleive that people would hate on the record that Brees broke, which was one of the more famous ones in the NFL (streak) and continue to ride this one.
February 14th, 2013 at 5:16 PM
Fuck Brees.
February 14th, 2013 at 5:16 PM
Any streak mark is more fun happenstance than something that truly matters…go look at the top ten on the consecutive games with a TD pass list, not exactly NFL royalty on there
LeBron’s insane though, I could argue for days on end with people who said Kobe was on Jordan’s level but with this guy there’s not much ground to stand on anymore
February 14th, 2013 at 5:17 PM
Not interested in his streak, just love watching him play.

The shooting percentage is ridiculous. The game is coming so easy to him now that it has to be scary for everyone else. Ok, I’m convinced, his accomplishments over the past 6 games deserve every bit the attention it is receiving. The numbers puts it all in perspective. The passing, the rebounding, the scoring. Bird in 86 is the only other person I can remember going on this kind of run. He hit like 2 or 3 game winning shots in one week, if I remember right.

Tuesday, LeBron became the first player in NBA history to shoot 60% from the field and score 30 or more points in six straight games.
I’m genuinely shocked that Wilt never did this. This is the type of thing you’d expect him to have done 20 separate times in his career. However, I just looked his FG% in his crazy scoring years wasn’t as insane as I’d of thought. Low 50′s.
February 14th, 2013 at 5:36 PM
Agree. That’s a lot of points to be giving Miami. Line is now down to 5 or 5 1/2.
February 14th, 2013 at 5:37 PM
KD definitely getting at least one technical tonight

One of my favorite stretches of games for Jordan came in the 88-89 season. 7 straight triple doubles.
31 ppg, 11 Assists, 12 rebounds, 3.1 steals, .7 blocks. 51% from the floor.
He had 10 triple doubles in 11 games, 11 in 13 games, 12 in 15 games.
February 14th, 2013 at 5:40 PM
Yea, that’s nasty
February 14th, 2013 at 5:43 PM
Am I just hating on LBJ when I say he’s on such a talented offensive team that he can do what he does best instead of forcing the issue the way he did in the past?
I can’t tell anymore.
He’s so gifted that one would think that when he plays in a system with this talent, this is what he is supposed to do…
February 14th, 2013 at 5:44 PM
He has reached the stage of “He should win MVP every year just because” though. Insanely dominant.
February 14th, 2013 at 5:45 PM
Meh..there are some days when the rest of the team outside of Lebron, Wade, and Bosh are downright atrocious.

Statistically Jordan was at his peak from ’88-’91. He averaged at 32-8-8 in 1989. Much like LeBron he was the best player in the league a few years before he won a championship.
I think part of LJ’s legacy will be how he keeps Durant at bay. He’s dominated the series head-to-head (12-3 record including the Finals last year) but theoretically he’s at the peak while Durant is still climbing the mountain.
One thing about MJ is he really didnt have a guy like Durant (4-5 years younger) coming at him while he was in his 30′s. If you look at the NBA draft from ’86 to ’91 the drafts were largely terrible, and there was only one guy who had the capability to be that kind of player. And for whatever reason David Robinson just couldnt get it done in the playoffs.

In case you’re interested – I checked some more Jordan seasons (but not all) for comparables on FG % streaks – The best I saw were 2 different streaks in 87-88:
6 Games – 63%,60%,68%,54%,61%,57% – averaged 36 ppg
7 Games – 68%,64%,68%,68%,50%,57%,77%, averaged 36 ppg
February 14th, 2013 at 5:51 PM
Not really, he can definitely “pick his spots” in a way he never could in Cleveland, when he had to jack up off-balanced jumpers because nobody else on the team could be trusted to make a shot.
February 14th, 2013 at 5:53 PM
that’s not necessarily fair. he didnt have nearly the refined offensive game he has now back when he was here and you can’t discount the impact winning a championship had on his psyche, plus the additional experience and being 2.5 years older…not saying if he stayed, he’d be have won a ring or would be this incredible, but he had some good shooters on the cavs and found em when they were open rather frequently.
fuck you mike brown.

Kevin Durant will still win a Karl Malone MVP along the way though I bet
February 14th, 2013 at 5:56 PM
“Karl Malone is the most overrated power forward in the history of the game”
- Bob Ryan
I about pissed myself laughing when I heard him obliterate Malone one day on Kornheiser’s radio show
February 14th, 2013 at 5:59 PM
ugh
February 14th, 2013 at 6:08 PM
Lebron has never registered on my PED radar
February 14th, 2013 at 6:11 PM
Was listening to Brian Windhorst on Kornheiser’s show the other day. Windhorst said when Lebron was a high school freshman, he was 6’4″ 225. The guy is just naturally big

So true…I often wonder how great LJ would be if he was ever coach by a good coach. An invested Lebron coached by Phil would be terrifying.

Le
Eh, he’s no Bill Russell.

I think I validated that idea in the music comment thread when I mentioned seeing Zeppelin, Kinks and Stones tour in the same year.

SCT, What did you think of the Uconn win last night? Obviously it was aided by Syracuse’s horrible shooting, but Napier/Boatright played very well and Calhoun and Giffey had their best games of their career.
I’m excited for the Ollie era to beging for real next year.
February 14th, 2013 at 7:18 PM
Kevin Durant will still win a Karl Malone MVP along the way though I bet
Steve Nash is getting my vote for this year
February 14th, 2013 at 7:38 PM
Bunk, great win for Uconn last night. Giffey’s versatility has been huge. Calhoun is going to be a hell of a scorer, assuming he improves his ballhandling, something he hasn’t been asked to do in their offense.
Nolan’s minutes were very encouraging. Just because of the composition of their roster, they need him to develop into a serviceable option. There was concern he might be a total bust, but he had some strong practices leading up to the Syracuse game, beating out Tolksdorf for some of Wolf’s would be minutes.
The Wolf situation is important. If he ends up getting kicked off the team/out of school, the 2015 APR will be in danger.
I was told Uconn has a strong shot at signing Kendal Harris, a PG who decommitted from USC. As for 2014, they are aggressively pursuing Leron Black.
