Nerlens Noel Suffered a Knee Injury and Was Writhing Around on the Floor Screaming in Pain [Video]
Nerlens Noel, the shot-blocking Kentucky freshman center, suffered what appeared to be a terrible knee injury in the 2nd half of the Wildcats’ game against Florida.
Noel blocked a shot on the fast break, but landed awkwardly and it appeared his left knee twisted or buckled. As you can hear in the video, Noel was writhing around the floor in pain as trainers rushed onto the floor.
His teammates carried him off the court, and now Kentucky, college basketball, and the NBA wait for word on the status of his knee. Without Noel, the Wildcats would no longer be a lock to make the NCAA tournament. In the last two weeks, Noel had played his way into perhaps the top spot for the 2013 draft.
Noel came into the game averaging 10.6 ppg, 9.6 rpg, and 4.5 blocks per game. He was threatening the school record for blocks (186) set by Anthony Davis last year.
Florida won, 69-52. [Front page screen grab via Issac]

After game, Calipari mouthed he thinks it popped out. That doesn’t sound too bad? I know a knee is different than a shoulder, but still could be worse if that’s it.

RIP season if he’s done for the Wildcats.
Reminded of Kenyon Martin, who was a beast and then got hurt, killed the Cats, then hurt his NBA career
February 12th, 2013 at 9:21 PM
Wow I didn’t realize Martin was the last American born college senior to go number one overall.
February 12th, 2013 at 9:23 PM
It’s a real shame, the NIT tourney isn’t going to be the same without him.
February 12th, 2013 at 9:25 PM
that’s like calling it an ATM machine.
Someone tell me why I should give a fuck about some dogs prancing around
February 12th, 2013 at 9:30 PM
Kentucky wasnt going anywhere with him anyways
February 12th, 2013 at 9:32 PM
Sparty takin it to UM
February 12th, 2013 at 9:34 PM
I don’t know that his NBA career was impacted. Was still explosive with the Nets…

Who dislocated their knee in CFB this past year? “Popped out” isn’t a medical term. It makes it sound like the trainer can just “pop it” back in.
Kenyon Martin? IRRC, he carried that team to #1 and then broke his leg in the conference tourney. Not sure that is the first guy that comes to mind in regards to this. I dunno. Shitty deal no matter what for Noel
February 12th, 2013 at 9:40 PM
Exactly why I didn’t think the Clowney post was outrageous. These things do happen
February 12th, 2013 at 9:40 PM
He wasn’t screaming in pain, he was grieving for lost millions Joe
Eh, I doubt it. He had a sorority threesome lined up for when they got back home. That is off now. You’d be screaming also. He’ll make his millions.

Lattimore

Lindsay Vonn is expected to compete in the Olympics one year from now in a sport that is more taxing on the knees than any other. I think science has got this.
February 12th, 2013 at 9:41 PM
If his knee popped out, he’ll be lucky to get back for the tournament.
February 12th, 2013 at 9:43 PM
I know its a shoulder but jacoby ellsbury missed 3-4 months after suffering a shoulder dislocation/popout
February 12th, 2013 at 9:43 PM
Who dislocated their knee in CFB this past year?
Lattimore
Yes. Thank you. I wonder where he is at in his rehab.
February 12th, 2013 at 9:43 PM
Kc…vonn is expected to or she expects to?
February 12th, 2013 at 9:45 PM
Probably a hot tub with two kinesthesiology students kc
February 12th, 2013 at 9:45 PM
I still maintain that Lattimore will get picked no later than second round. I was shouted down here but screw you guys.
February 12th, 2013 at 9:46 PM
Vonn, carano, and rousey..i need a 4th
February 12th, 2013 at 9:47 PM
Jenneke…to put the others to shame
February 12th, 2013 at 9:48 PM
The concept isn’t insane. The post was idiotic, IMO.
February 12th, 2013 at 9:50 PM
That begs the question, when do you think he would have been drafted if fully healthy?
I have no idea how long the recovery process is expected to be
February 12th, 2013 at 9:52 PM
Subluxation of the shoulder isn’t nearly as bad as an AC joint separation, but the knee is going to have a lot more damage usually. Pretty tough to dislocate a knee, meaning the femoral-tibial joint, without a lot of ligament damage. If it was just the kneecap getting knocked to the side, it’s a much better prognosis and recovery.
Pretty sure he didn’t dislocate his knee though, maybe just the patella, or else a forced hyperextension, which then can mess ligaments up.
February 12th, 2013 at 9:52 PM
This Miami/Portland game is really entertaining, both teams playing great offense.
LeBron just had a huge dunk on top of Pavlovich, payback for being a piece of shit in Cleveland.
February 12th, 2013 at 9:52 PM
This x27.5 seconds. Can’t believe all that time y’all wasted on Katherine Webb.
February 12th, 2013 at 9:57 PM
She stuck out like a sore thumb among the actual models, overrated.

Exactly. The shoulder is a ball and socket joint that is mostly held together by overlapping muscles. You see older people with their shoulders slumped and an arched back? Weak shoulder muscles. The knee is held together by the PCL, MCL, and ACL (and some other stuff.) One really doesn’t pop it in and out. I was always confused why Lattimore’s injury was initially called a dislocated knee.
Kc…vonn is expected to or she expects to?
The immediate media reports said she was expected to. I was dubious of that and posted that. People were pointing out Adrian Peterson. However, the Olympics have much more stricter drug testing that I’m not sure Vonn would even be able to take advantage of whatever Peterson used. And I am not claiming Peterson cheated. The Olympics have insane drug rules.
February 12th, 2013 at 9:59 PM
Teigen is the one I don’t get. The face is legitimately sub par

absolutely, good insight; its almost as if you’re “no coop”
February 12th, 2013 at 10:06 PM
Trojans – if lattimore had been fully healthy, mid first round
February 12th, 2013 at 10:06 PM
Well done
February 12th, 2013 at 10:08 PM
Speaking of knee injuries..barbosa out for year with torn ACL. Thats three celtics in two weeks who have gone down for the year. Fan-damn-tastic

Still glad my team doesnt have to deal with all that howard drama. The lakers just dont know how to shut up

Speaking of karma, he must be miserable, he lives in Canada AND he’s a laker fan
February 12th, 2013 at 10:15 PM
Seriously…Michigan State is annihilating Michigan. 19 point lead. We all sleep on Sparty and Izzo’s boys do it year after year
February 12th, 2013 at 10:16 PM
I dnt want her to shame them. Im just putting together a female athlete adult movie
February 12th, 2013 at 10:17 PM
Those of us in Michigan, despite who we cheer for, certainly don’t. Dude’s the best.
February 12th, 2013 at 10:22 PM
WFS, i know he always has good teams. I just didnt think they were this good. this Sparty performance helps Miami alot. sparty went down to coral gables and lost to the U. Still not sure how UConn beat Michigan State
February 12th, 2013 at 10:23 PM
One of the best games i ever saw was when Carmelo and the Cuse went to East Lansing and took down Sparty. Amazing game
February 12th, 2013 at 10:25 PM
Izzo could take five guys off a beer league rec team and I’d think about putting money on them against the Miami Heat.
February 12th, 2013 at 10:27 PM
Napier got 25 and Uconn blocked ten shots (inexcusable v this Uconn roster)
February 12th, 2013 at 10:31 PM
Izzo doesn’t give two shits about games before mid-January. He wins, great. He gets a loss or three, no big deal. It gives them something to work on improving for the conference run and tournament.
February 12th, 2013 at 10:32 PM
MSU has some for real athletes on this squad. And a couple knuckleheads finally figuring it out.
February 12th, 2013 at 10:32 PM
With all that said, this is an ass kicking that I never thought this Michigan team was capable of having handed to them.
February 12th, 2013 at 10:33 PM
Anyone else addicted to the Temple Run game app? Its like crack
i have three kids aged 7, 6 and 6 who like it

Denzel Valentine..what a name. What a player.
February 12th, 2013 at 10:34 PM
If Izzo coached OSU…..
February 12th, 2013 at 10:35 PM
With all that said, this is an ass kicking that I never thought this Michigan team was capable of having handed to them.
the public made it easy to take sparty at home tho…1.5pt favorites too good to pass up
February 12th, 2013 at 10:35 PM
If there is one game I ask UNC to win, its tomorrow at Duke. miami is going to paste Florida State and come close to locking up the ACC. With a win and a Duke loss, miami would be up 3.5 games in conference
February 12th, 2013 at 10:36 PM
Usually hurts their seed in the tournament but it doesnt seem to matter.
February 12th, 2013 at 10:36 PM
12 days til the final SU-Georgetown game at the Carrier Dome. Also, SU will retire Carmelo’s jersey that day. the dome is going to be insane
February 12th, 2013 at 10:37 PM
With that said, Michigan should beat them in A2 in a few weeks.
February 12th, 2013 at 10:37 PM
I wonder what lucky draw Michigan State will get in the tournament this year to inflate Izzo’s accomplishments
February 12th, 2013 at 10:38 PM
Miami, Florida, Syracuse, Michigan State, and Gonzaga are all playing the best right now.
February 12th, 2013 at 10:40 PM
Damn..LeBron had 30 again..Bosh had 32.. Wade 24..
Try some defense, Portland
February 12th, 2013 at 10:40 PM
/thinks of a way to shoehorn in that Calhoun >>> Izzo
//and how to shit on ‘Cuse v G-town rivalry
February 12th, 2013 at 10:40 PM
Izzo doesn’t give two shits about games before mid-January. He wins, great. He gets a loss or three, no big deal. It gives them something to work on improving for the conference run and tournament.
i get all that, and his coaching usually makes me put sparty in the sweet 16 every year, but how bout a damn title? soon, youngns won’t know what a cleeves is
February 12th, 2013 at 10:41 PM
If they shoot like 80% beyond the arc like they did against OSU. For sure. Should be a really good game. MSU has a brutal schedule down the stretch.
February 12th, 2013 at 10:42 PM
Matchups and being placed in a region close to home are so much more important than what number seed you are.
February 12th, 2013 at 10:44 PM
Well if you really want to stay up all night….
February 12th, 2013 at 10:46 PM
I think we can all agree that Duke will lose on the first weekend of the tournament again
February 12th, 2013 at 10:47 PM
Michigan is just finishing up a bad four game stretch. I said a coule weeks ago 2-2 would be good. They’re going to be 1-3 with a half-court shot preventing it. With that said, this is a really pitiful performance tonight.
February 12th, 2013 at 10:48 PM
Rich rodriguez finds nothing wrong with michigan’s defense
February 12th, 2013 at 10:49 PM

February 12th, 2013 at 10:56 PM
Well would you take the job when you could be out of it by end of next season? Thats one of many reasons why Kiffin has had a hard time filling the position. That and people dont want to work with him

-1,000,000 to MSU fans for singing Bon Jovi
February 12th, 2013 at 10:59 PM
Not only that AP, but this is so late in the offseason to conduct a search. On the plus side, Wittek has a lot of ability and Max Browne is coming in too
February 12th, 2013 at 11:01 PM
Meh. Gonzaga is so over-hyped, every freaking year. Havent gotten out of the S16 since Dan Monson was their coach. What’s their best win this year, Kansas State?
February 12th, 2013 at 11:01 PM
I think i was listening to the Solid Verbal guys and they were guessing that a guy like Charlie Strong stayed at the Ville for one more year because he, like many coaches, view the 13-14 season as Lane’s last at SC
February 12th, 2013 at 11:02 PM
Redick, just saying they are playing well right now. Doesnt mean they’ll be the best.
February 12th, 2013 at 11:04 PM
Never change, Duffman.
February 12th, 2013 at 11:06 PM
Several big jobs could potentially open. SC and Texas for firings. Bama, ND, Penn St, ATM could all get NFL pressure

I don’t have Bobcat season tickets but if they drafted a kid overall number one with stats like that I wouldn’t bother renewing. Those are chubby white kid playing MAAC numbers, not “I’m the First Overall Pick in the Draft” numbers.
