As a non-native, I will say there is a discernible “state pride” type of thing in Texas that I don’t think is common elsewhere. It may not be a huge factor, but there is a pull there that helps some.

It probably exists in Alabama, too, but UT puts out so many more blue chippers.

There is just something about a Texas offer to a kid from Texas that holds so much weight.

Husker, I obviously disagree UT is a better job than SC, but curious what your reasoning is. IMO SC is better poised to recruit (little local competition, ability to land recruits nationally) and it isn’t like UT is capitalizing on a huge financial advantage. All the top programs have great facilities and and pay their staffs well. Not sure what the advantage is aside from some intangible “most popular guy in the state” type of thing

I think the talent base is just as good if not better in Texas than in Cali. You also have so many good schools trolling Cali whereas Texas has the B 3 of UT, OU and A&M, plus a little bit of LSU and NEB. That’s it as far as big boys, though. Ohio State is midwest and South, and the SEC schools not named LSU don’t go that far West. But so many schools go into Cali. And you have the competition factor for recruits. The B12 only has a few elite recruiters, but the P12 has a ton. And the golden ticket notion of what a Texas offer means is a big deal. Getting kids to leave Cali isn’t as hard as getting kids to leave Texas provided they have an offer. There is just something about a Texas offer to a kid from Texas that holds so much weight. And the city itself is awesome, whereas LA is a dumpster fire.

Funny story: the final Peace Treaty to finish off all unfinished business in Europe from WWII wasn’t signed until like 1991. Japan and Russia still haven’t signed a peace treaty.
