Arrested Alabama Players Used Stolen Credit Card to Buy Snacks From Vending Machine
Alabama football players Brent Calloway, Eddie Williams, Tyler Hayes and D.J. Pettway were arrested on Monday. Calloway was charged with fradulent use of a credit card. Hayes and Pettway were charged with second degree robbery. Eddie Williams was charged with both.
The players allegedly approached two students in separate incidents, hit them in the head and stole belongings. Here’s a description from the University of Alabama police department.
According to the department, two UA students reported that they were robbed by two men on campus.
Both said that they were approached by the men who asked to borrow a cigarette lighter, before striking them in the head, stealing their belongings and leaving in a dark-colored SUV, according to the UAPD.
The first victim said that the robbery took place at 12:35 a.m. in the 800 block of Campus Drive. The second student was robbed at 1:20 a.m. in the 200 block of Seventh Avenue.
Both students told police that one robber had a dark complexion, a slim build and was around 6 feet to six feet, two inches tall. He was wearing a black wind suit and a red, beanie-style hat and possibly had dreadlocks. The second suspect had a medium to dark complexion, a stocky build, was of average height and was wearing blue jeans and a rain coat.
According to the Tuscaloosa News, players then used a stolen credit card, to get snacks (yes, snacks) from a campus vending machine.

Robbery works up an appetite? Nick Saban has mastered his roster management so well players are weeding themselves out of the program.

They should take a year off from the robbery game and hire a robbing trainer to help them get better at robbing, there’s no teacher quite like skipping a year’s worth of robbery experience.

I used to work at Discover card when I was 18 and it didn’t take long for me to figure out that Discover Gift Cards regardless of the amount available on them would always work on the vending machines in the office.

AUB and LSU have both taken cast offs from UGA, so they would be down. Ole Mi$$ will probably be all over them, though Jax St, Alabama St or the like is more likely.

I like this line, as long as we remember that you only get dismissed if you’re a backup. Otherwise, it’s a first-half of the game against the weakest opponent type of suspension.

to be fair, urban meyer kicked off cam newton and jamar hornsby for robbery and CC related shit. and he’d let just about anyone play short of that shit…it’s way more serious than a one-half suspension.
February 12th, 2013 at 11:22 AM
What’s Frank Clark get for home invasion robbery? 2 games?
February 12th, 2013 at 11:22 AM
There’s probably about 200-300 kids that get thrown outta D1 football each year for shit like this, or guys that just flat out going to class.
February 12th, 2013 at 11:22 AM
WTF? At least have your UGA jokes make sense. That’s a Meyer thing.
February 12th, 2013 at 11:23 AM
BTW, I took “this wouldn’t have happened were the players compensated enough to buy snacks” over “oversigning” so I lose some sort of bet to Duffy now.
/I had my “kids aren’t going to be satisfied with $1500 a semester, they’re always going to want more, never be satisfied… the kind of people who’d steal to get more will still do it” argument all lined up
//you win this round, Duffman
February 12th, 2013 at 11:23 AM
If they smacked these people in the head, why are there not any assault charges?
I’m guessing it should be a hate-crime too. I’m sure they hate Saban. And Tuscaloosa.
February 12th, 2013 at 11:24 AM
urban meyer kicked off cam newton
I think cam newton was going to get chucked from the school b/c he stole that kids paper, erased the name, wrote his down, and turned it in. The profs where going to run his ass outta the school regardless.
February 12th, 2013 at 11:24 AM
Was the robbery trying to re-negotiate his recruiting fee?
February 12th, 2013 at 11:25 AM
WTF? At least have your UGA jokes make sense. That’s a Meyer thing.
My mistake – I was just paraphrasing Spurrier. So Richt actually suspends for conference games. My bad.
February 12th, 2013 at 11:25 AM
Another move by a lot of athletes, hang out by the vending machines, and beg every student that walks by to get him something. these guys just sped up the process.
February 12th, 2013 at 11:25 AM
Love that Florida has some academic integrity, but UNC? nothing to see here…
February 12th, 2013 at 11:26 AM
Much to my chagrin, yes, he does. That’s why having the 2nd game of the year be against SoCar always sucks. As Spurrier said, UGA is always good for 1-2 guys being out.
February 12th, 2013 at 11:27 AM
Excellent question, especially considering both are Class B felonies.
Also Williams had a gun on him when apprehended apparently? Not good.

Cam’s dad runs a church, guys. He would never cheat, steal or accept extra benefits.
February 12th, 2013 at 11:28 AM
Told this story before, but Duke Crews did this to me. Sometimes you just have to give up your student card to a 6’9” black guy that plays basketball for your school.

February 12th, 2013 at 11:30 AM
Ha. High school. Every single day.
February 12th, 2013 at 11:30 AM
Even if no physical contact takes place?
February 12th, 2013 at 11:31 AM
Pointing a gun at someone is a pretty serious offense. Or threatening violence if you don’t give up the money. What are you going to do? Decline to hand over your wallet until they hit you a few times?
February 12th, 2013 at 11:32 AM
I think battery would be included if physical contact come into place. Assault can be implied or threatened.
/I may have gotten that either entirely wrong or backwards
February 12th, 2013 at 11:32 AM
Tosha Mitchell would agree if, you know, she wasn’t dead
February 12th, 2013 at 11:32 AM
Robbery is taking by theft using either force or the threat of force. In most places when you hear “assault with a deadly weapon” is just means threatening someone with a weapon, not actually touching them. Alabama is a state that rolled battery and assault into one blanket “Assault” category though.
February 12th, 2013 at 11:34 AM
I meant more of robbery without saying/touching/pointing anything at the person. Not this incident. This is definitely assault
February 12th, 2013 at 11:35 AM
That isn’t robbery, that’s theft by taking.
February 12th, 2013 at 11:36 AM

One of my shining moments that year was in criminal law during the prostitution discussion positing that “I have less of a chance contracting an STD in a well regulated brothel than I do from anyone in this room.” Did not go over well.

February 12th, 2013 at 11:44 AM
Nice.
I don’t remember much about Crim Law. I skipped the day the professor railed for 20 minutes about how it is every citizen’s duty to blow when they got pulled over. Still regret I missed that conversation.
February 12th, 2013 at 11:45 AM
WHAT’S IN THE BOWL, BITCH
February 12th, 2013 at 11:45 AM
I was told by a lawyer friend not to blow, but then a buddy of mine did that and found out it was a mistake. What’s proper protocol here?
February 12th, 2013 at 11:47 AM
We’ve had this discussion on here several times. Most states are implied consent states, if you refuse to blow, you’ll get blood taken at the station and in most states automatically lose your license for refusing the breathalyzer.
February 12th, 2013 at 11:50 AM
Well, your licence will be suspended which is going to happen anyway if you blow and it comes back .08 or higher.
February 12th, 2013 at 11:52 AM
That’s what happened to my buddy in Kentucky. Implied consent was the phrase I couldn’t remember.
February 12th, 2013 at 11:52 AM
you’re pretty fucked when you get pulled over for a dui now. maybe take your chances and pray you can get ok’d to drive to work.
February 12th, 2013 at 11:52 AM
Well yeah. But people act (thanks to lots of “my buddy told me” urban legends) that not blowing is some magic ticket out of it when you’re actually driving drunk, which is about as far from reality as possible. Only slightly behind the “chug a bottle of vodka and throw out the keys as the cop walks out” story.
February 12th, 2013 at 11:54 AM
are you sure they were talking about the breathalyzer?
February 12th, 2013 at 11:58 AM
Which is why I refuse to drive after having more than 2 drinks. Just not worth it.
February 12th, 2013 at 11:59 AM
I’ve also never had more than one drink at a time
/because you see, I’m a pussy
February 12th, 2013 at 12:01 PM
Well, your licence will be suspended which is going to happen anyway if you blow and it comes back .08 or higher.
They had me dead to rights. With the evidence against me I was going to lose my license anyway. It did make it harder for them to impose mandatory counseling, after the fact, without a blood alcohol levels. I played the one crazy night card. I had a buddy blow .2 and he had to go to self paid counseling for a year.
February 12th, 2013 at 12:01 PM
But you’re buying time for the alcohol to be metabolized by your body while they wait for the blood to be drawn. And, if a lawyer in PA is to be believed, you can use the GC (supposedly) method used to determine the amount of alcohol in your bloodstream as reason to throw out the results.
February 12th, 2013 at 12:02 PM
Bottom line on DUI, whether you blow or not, you’re going to have to fight it in court.
February 12th, 2013 at 12:09 PM
If you’re goal is to figure out how to not get a DUI, and your solution is anything other than “don’t drive drunk, idiot”, you’re doing it wrong.
I’m not gonna pretend I’ve never driven borderline, but once you have kids/wife/family/responsibilities, I’m amazed people risk that. I got out of a speeding ticket once just by telling the judge we were being responsible and I was the designated driver (true, though no one in the car even had a drink yet)
February 12th, 2013 at 12:14 PM
Area I grew up and live close to, its staggering the amount of people that drink/drive. Kind of just a way of life in rural areas
